  1. because the spine is not working in a biomechanically correct position, the hands can't come back to the original shaft plane. Toms can strike it though so he's making it work for him and his pattern.
  2. 80-85 perfect, 3.0 handicap. are you sure? that might be more than a tour pro. Tiger mentions that he hits 6 perfect shots when he scores in the mid 60s. The title is similar to "how far do you hit your driver?" and people respond with an average of 280. Sure you do... you HAVE hit it 280 but you don't average 280 because that's a couple yards under the tour average.
  3. moe hit it straight everytime. he could draw it, fade it, and could even hit a straight shot and have it bounce in either direction. my instructor and HIS instructor spent countless hours with moe. if you can find his track record, he has some 50+ hole in ones, 60+ course records, and put on the best clinics people have ever been witness to. here's one: theres 6 more parts to this series.
  4. a 5 handicap? I'll be giving you a few aside, and soon to be more now that I'm retired. I read hogan's books while you were still in diapers, junior.
  5. Reference data? Do you want the plane ticket, the access badge, or the meal receipts. Look who's anecdotal? " most competent golfers"... you're not even one of them, yet you can sit at your desk and write about what other people have told you without doing any research or analysis on your own. You have references hogan's book in every post. Is that the only book you own? is he the master reference for everything about the golf swing? not to say he wasnt a genius but dude, get a grip on reality and turn on your tv to see that nobody today swings it like he does. campbell, sergio, and trevor's old move are pretty close, but chiming in to every thread saying that "read hogan's book and you'll see that..." is borderline plagiarism. Look at the things that changed in golf in the past 5 years, including what we thought was solid gold: ball flight laws. the boys from S&T; have changed the way we have taken in all that crappy information for the past 30-40-50 years and have given us a new idea on how to get this done. NO more listening to the old pro who's been around the game and therefore has talked to the greats about what they have felt. no more listening to the regurgitators like you who run around shooting their mouth off. grow up, read a book, get a clue, and jump out from behind the leader my friend. do something for yourself. I"m done with you. you can write whatever you want because there are others like you on here who will take anything people say as truth and fact, when in FACT its crap. I hear you're mom calling you in for dinner. ...run along now.
  6. In Phoenix: mccord costis school has programs I recommend Pia Nillson and Lynn Marriott at Troon.
  7. I have watched Tiger on the range twice in the past 2 months. That view of his ball position is much more forward than he plays it, but hey! the pictures don't ever lie, do they. The style of pivot would effect the amount of hip slide. Tiger would slide more than Hogan. I think comparing Tiger to Hogan in terms of being champion golfers is a great debate, but comparing Tiger to Hogan in terms of the golf swing and ball striking is like comparing Keystone Light to Heineken.
  8. I agree with the head being back, depending on the kind of shot you're trying to hit. For irons shots, I would want the button on my shirt over the golf ball at impact - not behind it. If I was trying to hit a high driver, the button would be just behind the ball and the belly button well forward. If you can control your shirt button, you can control your low point and therefore your flight.
  9. Watch ANY professional golfer? Ok.. snead, grant waite, mac ogrady, brian gay,... these are the best ball strikers in the game and there is not alot of tension on the lead side of their body because the left shoulder is getting closer to the left hip. Its not stretching. The stretch comes with the right side because in order to get the shoulders 90* to the spine, the right shoulder has to move UP I could watch some guys who are about 150 in greens in reg and maybe 130 in fairways in reg and I could see some poorly executed pivots with too much weight on their back foot trying to save their swing with their hands. I could watch their next shot from the rough. If you want to use Tiger as an example of a pure ball striker, you're clueless. I have seen the left side of his shirt stretch. For one, he wears a size too small to show off his muscles, and second, he doesn't exactly hit it straight most of the time. BTW, as a former surgeon who has a few dozen lumbar operations under his belt, I think you're out of your element.
  10. CHSpeed: the hips will stay inside the front foot so long as they back hip works UP and the right knee straightens. On the downswing, the hips can't get too close to the target. The idea is to make a lateral bump towards the target, almost to the point that the front hip is past the outside of the front foot. If the idea is to get the belt buckle to the target, then the hips have turned too soon. The idea in this video to is restrict the turning until they have moved forward. Some may have to feel like they are preventing the turn - like me. I'm a spinner. In that picture of couples, he has already moved his hips so far forward that his front foot has already started to roll to the outside. The lateral move is done and he has begun his deliberate rotation.
  11. Quick! get a chiropractors number ASAP! Tension in your back? ..and on the let side? not likely. The muscles on the left side should not be in a stretched state. The RIGHT side should be. If you feel tension in your back your spine is in a compromised state and this will lead to back issues quickly. I think we all agree that there shouldnt be any compression or tension at setup. In the back swing, the hips must maintain their tilt and turn relatively level to that initial tilt to support the lumbar spine, and the shoulders will turn approx. 90* - or make a full turn - in relation to the spine. The role of the spine in the backswing is to extend, into a non-compromising and biomechanically efficient state. try this.... if you were to stand in your golf position with a mirror facing down the line behind you, and you made a full pivot turn to into the backswing. look at yourself. do you look "turned" or does it look like you have simply bent your body to the left? if your left shoulder got lower to the ground, then you probably leaned left, right? try doing some experiments with YOUR OWN body to produce the shoulder turn and pivot. just because it feels weird doesn't mean its wrong. Left shoulder down... Right shoulder UP... lean a little left. you can still get behind the ball and weight loaded right if you want to, but that's another debate.
  12. try letting your shoulder work down more, rather than across and making contact with your chin. If the shoulders are going to make their most effective turn, they must turn 90* to the spine, and since the spine is flexed forward at address, the left shoulder must work down more than across.
  13. I tried this at the range last night and it was intense. It seemed like I picked up about 15 with my driver and my irons sounded better. I went to a range near DisneyWorld and the guy next to me asked me what I was doing. I sent him here.
  14. Do you bring your protractor to the golf course? how do you know if its 45 and 90? that doesn't give anyone much help. knees help hip turn... hip turn helps shoulder turn... left shoulder must move down to get a proper turn. if you aren't flexible, flex the left knee more and straighten the back leg more. this helps the hip turn and tilt and can let the shoulders turn more.
  15. I have one by About Golf. The distance, spin, flight, etc.. measurements are accurate to within 95% and its the only sim endorsed by the pgatour...ever.
  16. Most back pain, according to chiro and tpi trainer, is a result of compression on the back or twisting of the spine. The first thing to do is check how you are putting torque on your back and monitor your pivot. The old theory of staying in your spine angle is junk, as is the xfactor. The idea is to stay in your initial incline to the ground. When you get to the top of your backswing, you're not looking to have twisted your spine, but actually extending it. For a RH player, the left shoulder moves down towards the ball and the right shoulder should feel like it goes up towards the spine. What you have done is Stood Up! and leaned a little left. If you view the spine as a long rectangle, it may be easier. consider the front part (facing your chest) the 'front', the 'left side' faces the target at address, the 'right side' faces away from the target, and the 'back' is the back. At address, the spine leans forward in flexion. at the top of the backswing, the leftside now faces the ball, the 'front side' faces away from the target, and the 'back' faces the target. This may give you the idea or the feeling to make a proper turn in your backswing. Whether you want to have a centered pivot, a right side loaded pivot, or some other version... biomechanic efficiency is what it is. You are either doing it right or doing it wrong.
  17. My coach sent me this video and I thought it was very helpful.
  18. I think the easiest way short of studying trackman or reading through the moronic asskissing on Manzella's site is to think about your ball flight. There is a target line, and swing path, and a clubface angle. If you can get the clubface angle to point in between the path and the target line, you'll have your desired curve that should not over curve and cross the targetline. This really goes against the oldschool ideas that path gave us initial direction and face gave us curvature. As well as the idea that you hit the back of the golf ball. if you are looking to curve it with a draw, it requires an open clubface hitting the inside quadrant of the ball. Great thread. There should be more REAL info throughout this site.
  19. Anyone catch his lie and the shot he was facing?
  20. Butch could only take Tiger as far as he did. Haney is about to get his papers soon too. Rumour has it that Tiger has already shown interest in a new coach out on tour.
  21. golftec has some good instructors, like the one on altamonte, florida, but unless there is snow on the ground, find one that teaches outside.
  22. The hips can move linearly forward towards the target or you can make a conscious decision to rotate. By moving the center of the hips foward, they will rotate some, but once the center is at the ball or in front, then you can consciously rotate. Rotating from the top with a right side weighted backswing is leading to over the tops very quick. the picture posted of tiger is at a bad camera angle because he does not play his ball that far forward. Hogan and Tiger also had completely different pivots, where hogan had the center of his hips back to center of his stance before the arms come down, where tiger's center is towards the back.
  23. you're right that it shouldnt but theres a good chance it will be. its the longest club that goes the farthest. human nature is to swing it the fastest, which can lead to some problems.
  24. Tiger is king of the crybabies now. his demeanor is embarassing lately. ames is known as 'teeth' or '9n8'
