  1. I know the Vokeys have red emblems for the amature wedges, but how do you tell which VR has the old grooves? Do they still make the VR'S in the 2024 rule grooves?
  2. I am looking to purchase some new wedges and would like to know what are the best spinning wedges? I'm sure this has been covered but I know a lot have changed for groove rules. I don't care about the rule change because I'm obviously not a pro but which ones are still old groves in 2010? If I ubderstand correct, the red vokeys are the old grooves? What else spins awsome that is not a gimick club (spin doctor etc).
  3. I am shanking the ball very hard lately but I am almost positive the ball is not hitting the housel. I think I am blading it and its a half shank and half wicked slice. The ball goes 45 degrees right and has a slice to boot. I did notice that when I line up to the ball the toe of the club is off the ground and I would have to stand unconfortably close to the ball to get it to lie flat. I suspect this is a root of the problem because I rarely can hit a mid or long iron without chunking or blading it which causes the shank. I am 6 foot tall and am using off the shelf irons (adams insight). I was fooling around with a really old set of irons that have a flatter lie and didn't have the shank problem, but only hit about 8 balls into the woods so i'm not convinced yet. Sorry for the long explination but figured a good golfer might have a suggestion. Any thoughts?
  4. If you have hit both, give your opinions. Which is longer? Which is more forgiving? What is your swing speed? I have a Burner, and have hit the Monster and the guy at Dicks claims the Monster is 10-15 yards longer than the 07 Burner that I have. I have only hit the Monster on the simulator and am looking for opinions of those who have hit both on-course. I need to pick up a new driver for the upcomming season and am split between the Burner and Monster. My burner is a draw version because I had a slice, but by the end of the year I fixed my swing and now i'm usually 20-30 yards left of the fairway when i'm aming for the center so I am going to a normal driver this year. I like the Burner a lot but hear the Monster is straighter and longer, so says the "Pro" at Dicks. My SS is 112mph and I use a stock Fuji stiff flex now ball flight is just about perfect or a little high(definatly not low, might be a tad to high). Opinions????????????
  5. Thank you, they look the same and are offered with the same shaft so I always wondered the difference.
  6. What is the difference between the tour model and standard?
  7. Never tried the Mizuno, but the Burner and Monster seem about the same to me as far as straightness. Maybe he is having a problem with hitting fairways? I always love how when someone says the hit it over 225 yards no one believes them. I can carry 280 all day long on drives and have hit a 350 yard par 4 dead center on a dry day with a huge bounce and roll but i'm sure a 225 yard hitter wouldn't believe it until they see it. Point is I can see him hitting 260-275 without question, why not just stick to his question without throwing in "supposbly" and calling him out?
  8. I only hope it drives the price of the TP Black and Reds down since they are old tech.
  9. There fun but it brings out the dishonesty in a lot of teams. Last one I played we had a group in front of us that none of the 4 guys were hitting the fairway most of the holes, and somehow shot 15 under while we were 6 under! They must have had some incredible iron players and putters. The skins were another joke, 4 out of 6 were won by none other than the guy running the score board and skin sheets. Its a lot of fun to play but it sucks to see a bunch of dishonest chodes turning in 15 and 16 unders, while honest teams wonder how close to the top of the leader board they really were without everyones magic pencils. I just play them for fun and don't expect to win anything. Its just fun to get out there with 3 buddy's and play golf as a team for a change. I'm playing a 2 man scramble soon so that should cut down on the cheaters unless 2 teams get paired that are friends. Either way it is better than sitting on the couch with a remote in hand.
  10. Don't waste your money on the Freak, its not as long as the HX Hot Plus. The Noodle+ (Taylor Made ball) I think is a hair longer than the HX hot and the Taylor Made TP Black is very long also. I have tried about every ball out there and the HX, Noodle+, and Black seem to be the longest for me out of everything I have tried. I have heard that a harder ball have more distance but thats not the case at all for me. The R9 is LONG as well as the Burner. There are so many variables that some clubs and balls might be longer for some but not for others, but these are the longest I have seen IMHO. I'd set the R9 to 9.5 degrees, and blast away at a range to see if you need to adjust the degrees. My SS is between 109-117 so if yours is close this might help. I have never tried the FX long(about the only ball I haven't hit), so if you have time to play a round or 2 try as many different balls that you can to see what works and make sure you hold the club as far up the grip as possible(choke up as much as you can with out tossing the driver).
  11. Another vote for the Noodle+ ball here. The gamer is ok but the Noodle+ is much longer off the tee and has a softer feel off irons and the putter for a slight bit less $.
  12. Callaway HX Hot Plus and Noodle+ (taylormade ball) are the longest legal balls I have hit. If its a scramble and there isn't anyone really checking anything i'd suggest hitting up Fleabay and picking up a pack of Desperado balls that are slightly heavier and smaller and FLY.
  13. I just picked up a Nike 5 wood with a stiff steel shaft and what a great club! For some reason when I hit a regular shaft graphite,it slices like crazy on me.The steel shaft Nike has me seeing a part of the fairway I am not so familiar with (left side). I have been looking for somewhere online to buy a matching 3 wood but so far have not seen a SQ 3 wood with a steel stiff shaft anywhere.
  14. This was what I was looking for. Do you happen to know the shaft length on the regular Burner (07-08)?
  15. Do you know the shaft length on the 07/08? I know the 09 is longer but I am looking fo the shaft length on a 07-08 model.
  16. Are the 07 and 08 Taylor Made Burner Drivers the same? I know the 09 is different but is there any difference in the earlier models?
  17. I can honestly say they SEEM to be a lot shorter than the HX Hot Plus Callys I have been using. I tried a Pro V for a round and a V1X for another round and switchd back to the HX because I lost distance. I know distance isn't everything but I don't backspin the ball (other than a couple by accident) and the Callaway is $20 a doz cheaper so I won't be going back to the Titleist anytime soon. I had to go 1 iron longer with the Pro V1's and I lost distance off the tee for sure.
  18. I have Adams Irons and they are very nice clubs for the price. The Quality is great and they have a nice feel. My hands never turned black, but I did notice my glove blackened a bit.
  19. I have to either order them online or drive 1 hour to Golf Galaxy to get them but I like them a lot. The Noodle+ (by Taylormade) is also impressive for the $18 for a 15 pack but I like the gamer a little more.
  20. I agree with the mental thing comment. I can hit from 165 or so off the fairway 85% of the time, but on par 3's it is more like 25% so i'm the opposite. I have tried tees and no tees on the par 3's but I struggle hitting from the tee box. I think if its in your mind that your going to miss it your more likley to do so, but if you think "I make these all the time" they are easier to hit.
  21. I have read and watched vids also as well as spent countless $$$ at the range and everytime I thought I had it cured it would come back. That is true "hide" not cure but as long as its going straight down the fairway or a slight draw sometimes i'm happy. It's nice not to have to aim 2 fairways to the right, land on the leftside of my fairway just to watch it roll off the right hand side.
  22. I just picked up a new Burner Draw 9.5 stiff and WOW I never thought i'd lose my slice but its gone. My ball usually would turn at about 150 yards to the right hard on most every drive. I worked on many different stances, grips, adjusted thw swing, and it always seemed to come back.I didn't expect the Burner to help as much as it did,but the ball flies very straight about 85% of the time now. Could the stiff shaft have something to do with it also,or was it just the closed club face? My swing speed is 104 mph,and I was hitting my 10.5 loft driver to high, now it seems to have a very good height(i'll actually get some roll now) with the 9.5 I have tried a few different drivers but think i'm kicking the wife out of bed and sleeping next to the burner from now on.
  23. Why can't I take a full swing on the driver without slicing? If I take a lot slower swing it goes straight(about 250 yards) but when I swing faster it slices. The harder I swing the more it slices.I feel i'm leaving some distance by slowing the swing and would like to be free to take a full back swing and accellerate as fast as possible through the swing, what do I need to do? I don't think my swing angle or mechanics changer when I swing hard,it just slices more.
  24. I have been trying out several different brands and variations, but just finally found some Gamers in a store (an hour from my house) and played them for 18. I hate all other Top Flite balls except the Freak(long off the tee), but the Gamers are awesome. I shot my best ever round with the Gamer, I know it probably wasn't the ball but it sure helped. I thought it might not be as long as other balls I have played, but I was wrong it is a very long ball. This ball seemed to be very nice putting also, felt medium-soft while putting, and it stops nice when chipping. On the last hole I miss hit a driver and I have never seen a ball spin so much it took a direct right hand turn(into a neighboring fairway) but none the less it made a very sharp turn. I have finally found a ball I'll be playing from now on, I just wish they were easier to find in stores.Guess I'll have to order a few boxes.
  25. I have looked at Kmart,Walmart, Dicks and Dunhams but I can't seem to find Gamers anywhere. Everyone has the D2's a couple have the Freak and every seems to stock the Rockflight XL's but I can not find Gamers anywhere and I hear those are a nice ball for the $$$$$$
