You are right Vinsk. My Daughter in Law Fanny caddied for her in a couple of events and we spent some time with her and Michelle is really a nice person.

That is right rehmwa, play it the way you want, if you are just out for fun who cares. I told my beginner students that it is okey to improve lies, or even tee it up in the Fairway if it helps to better learn and enjoy, and by all means keep it moving, there is nothing worse than playing behind someone who is whiffing the ball all day. Now to the anal teeing it up in the Fairway is dreadful, but so is chopping and it does build confidence to work down to the grass. Watering down the equipment, what do you mean by that. Yup, that is what I said. Some have it some don't, simple as that. They once asked a 100 mph + Baseball Pitcher what he did to throw so fast, his answer was he didn't know, he just threw it hard and it went fast. Very few can do that, like flying a Golf Ball over 300, the rest are just lying or have no clue.

JxQx, I have been saying that for a long time, set up the courses tougher and makes no difference, but that is not the Goal of the Tour or the Club Makers, it is power, and power sells. Marketing has taken over the game for a long time now and it ain't gonna stop no matter what we think, and we will keep on trying to buy distance. Sad the game has gone to thins, but it is what it is. I am just glad I had the chance to play in the days when skill meant something.

God,,, AKA USGA. I am with you, but as the game goes to a power game, for the money obviously, we are in the minority. Back to Wood, then the Ball wouldn't matter that much.

There you go, nice picture of her, ahem, blond hair.

Lihu, it would be very interesting, but I am not advocating different rules, I just think the current rules are way too much and some of them border on stupidity or have made it and who is responsible? How about the USGA elite. How about dropping a ball on the slope of a WH and watching it obviously roll back into the hazard, that is bad enough but the rules say you have to do this twice before placing it. And of course it takes a while for this farce to go on. Tell me what is the point when it is obvious the Ball is going downhill and into the water. That is what I am talking about. Ever see the Decisions Book, it is thick as the Bible, and some Bluenoses think it IS the Bible. The rules are, well, interesting. I am an old person now with a lot of old injuries, but I still love to play although I cannot walk due to a stroke and other things, but I still love to play and plan to keep on as long as I can. So enjoy what you have while you got it, I did and have lots of great memories.

Well mcanadiens, I have been clicking my Mouse and find this site very interesting. The subject matter varies and the responses and discussions are really interesting. So it was more a bit of humor I posted what I did, so that is that. Thank you for the advice.

You are right updown21, but she changes her Putting stroke so often it would be hard to keep current. Now one constant is the length of her skirt or shorts which violate the supposed new rules of the LPGA, and has been ignored by many players. Now that is much more interesting that hair color or Putting stance, with pictures of course. LOL

There is an old film of a man testing out a Football Helmet from way back when. He plows into a wall head first, which is kind of where this subject has gone. It is what it is whether anyone likes it or not. I think a Stupid Rules discussion about just how they came about and why is much more interesting. Getting into the reason why the "Grand and Glorious Rulers" of the game have come up with some of these totally stupid Rules are interesting. The game should be hit it, go find it and hit it again.
-
What difference does it make whether anyone likes it or not or is this site so weak that this is going to go and on. It is her hair and she will do what she wants, so why is it a topic for discussion.

A lot of courses today are built around home developments and between houses and of course streets. That is one reason for long trips to the next tee. And there are a lot of people who love Golf but cannot walk the courses, strokes, injuries and so on. I know this is not about the long ball, but it is a fact and of course you have to pay for the Cart. As far as the long ball, it does not affect that many players where it is too long, mainly the Tour. But us hacks do appreciate a few more yards, especially us older Geezers. So, everyone has an opinion, some good, some bad.
-
The companies pay these guys big bucks to smash the ball so the buyer sees it and their Millions of Dollars of Marketing Money pays off with sales. But I think a lot of people are wising up to the fact they change the product every few months to sell more and people are waiting for that so they can buy the last one a lot cheaper, which means that the Marketing Money will bring in less new Club sales. It is going to be interesting, that is for sure. Is your "old" 6 month old Driver really obsolete? For yrs. I have said that newer is not always better, just more expensive.
-
Face it, like it or not the new Golf is all about power and distance. So we play our piddly game and they smash the Hell out of it. Is it really for us say whether it is good or not? Yet we all have opinions that create discussions, and like Butt Holes, we all have opinions. Enjoy your game no matter how it goes.

Why do so many golfers think short game is holding them back?

Every day I would see at the Range people go to the Range, grab their Driver and start swinging for the fence. Then they would go to the Putting Green, slap a few quick Putts and off to the first tee. Their game is shot before they tee off. Gary Player said your practice session would in thirds, 1/3 long game and 2//3s short game and Putting. Take it for what it is worth. -

Marv, I hope you like your new shafts, but I will stick with what I said. After years of working on and building clubs I have spent many hours with engineers {toot toot} on the benefits and consistency of Steel and that is the result, consistent throughout. Graphite however is different per manufacturer. Nippon by the way builds a great shaft. Best to you and your Golf. -

There can be a big difference in Graphite where there are no std. flexes. Ones R is another companies S, but steel does not have that same difference, they are all pretty std. But in Graphite you have to know what is what, and that is tough. The one difference in steel is the so called flex point, which is not very much. My answer for low flight is stiffer and high flight is softer. It seems to work just fine. And then there is Torque. It can get very complicated unless you know. -

Well Iacas, you obviously have more to offer than most teachers. I have only been doing for 50+ yrs. and seen it all, and I thought I knew something about it and people. But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, As I said once before, this has been beaten to death. -

joro replied to Lihu's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
If any of you have taught Golf and think the short game is easy to teach you are the exception. Teaching touch, which is what it is and the proper club to use and where to hit it is not that easy. Does a person want to lob it on, then it has to be perfect, or bump and run, also perfect. After watch skills and chunks for awhile as person has to realize this is not as easy as some seem to think, and those chunks and skulls were shots I saw during the Tour event in Mexico by Tour Pros. Some learn easier than others and that is the way it is. I think we are beating this to death and redundancy is getting worn out. So we all have different opinions, and that is okay. -

You are right, but if you do not think the Short Game is important you are wrong. I never said it is everything, but it is a lot because without getting up and down you will not score and anyone who hits every Green in regs is not human. It is not the whole game but a big part of it and that is a fact. And no I do not think the Earth if flat either. If people want to beat me up on this site so be it, I can take criticism, but I do see some that cannot. Maybe this site is not for me. -

Why do so many golfers think short game is holding them back?

Good for you, you are doing well and I hope that get your goal every time you play. In my case and typical of old hacks we don't hit that many Greens in regs and have to rely on the short game. In my case I am 78 have had 2 hips, a stroke that took 1/2 my right side and being lefty I need that right side, and last Heart Surgery. Now in my younger years I was a big strong athlete and Golf was easy. I never was a great Iron player and my strengths were short game and Putting. I was a +4 hop at my best and played in a few PGA events and 2 Majors as both an amateur and s Pro. So that said I am an old has been. I had a bad accident that left me with a broken back and neck in 1977 and ended the good playing days so in the next 40 yrs I was a club maker and consultant to mfgrs, and taught as a PGA teacher. I ended my career as a teacher and club repairman at a local course at 78. So I feel I have a decent grasp on what the game is about. And please, although I am proud of my past I did not say this to brag but to hope people who read this understand where I am coming from. I don't know it all, and know a lot of those that think they do really have no clue. -

I agree with the flex thing. Just because a person is old does not mean they should go to a softer shaft. A lot depends on the release and whether or not it is a snap or a swing. In my case I am even as old has been a quick release player and distort a soft which makes me inconsistent. I have not gone to a really heavy shaft either and find mid weight and stiff works best. I have always felt there is not much difference tween a Reg and a Stiff anyway. I know what the machine or flex board says, but we are not machines, we are real with real performance needs. Of course I am old school, but maybe what works vs. what the machines and people,{self made Gurus} show is best. This is a game of going from here to there in the best way you can and we have become very, very technical, maybe too much so. I am not saying it all is bad, but some hurts more than helps. Confusion reigns at times and is that a good thing? Good luck and you are on track with the shaft thing.
