  1. I have done this many times in many fields. it sure not hard to find a place around here that you could work on you game from 100 yards in.
  2. I belong to one. not a cheap club (15K to get in the door). But I love it. 3 hour rounds at best 4 1/4 at worst. Great conditions. Locker, showers, clubs clean and ready when I show up. If you can afford it, this is the way to play.
  3. Got my swing back and shot 92 today. so I went 89, 116 , 92
  4. There are lots of ways to go "pro" some guys really do just have game and don't work that hard at it and can still compete, other can work their a$$ off and still not break 80. So much of golf is your head, if you can't get that worked out no amount of practice or instruction will help. Look at David Duval, he worked his but, got to world number one and then fell apart as a golfer. Look at Charles Barkley - the guy gets some of the best golf instruction in the world, practices like hell, has power to spare, but still i doubt he could break 110. Plenty of pro's that take up the game 5 year old and other that don't start until their late teens. If all the pieces fit you can go pro, if they don't they don't. For most of us, no matter how hard we work, we could never by on the PGA tour.
  5. Just I think I have this golf thing figured out I go and blow up big time. I am 19 hdcp and latley I have had a few rounds lately that were good for me all in the low 90's then an 89 the next day my round started off well, Par, Par. Then thing fell appart 53 on the front and then I really lost it and 63 on the back. 116! 27 strokes lost in one day! What is your worst?
  6. 18 in 4 hours just about all the time here. the worst is 4:15 if I have to wait. Played 18 in 2:45minutes the other day as twosome - no waiting.
  7. Cover and divot tool. Nice putter to have. Mine actually did improve my putting by a fair margine. but I think that was becuase I didn't want to look like tool who buys a cameron, but still couldn't putt, so I practice way more now.
  8. Dress code all the way here. Tuck in the shirt, collar shirt(I even hate when the PGA guys wear mock turtle neck shirts) and regulation for the shirts and pants. There are some great technical golf wear out there that is everybit as comfortable as a t-shirt and cargo shorts.
  9. I agree with you 85%. In truth the Average Golfer can not break 100 and by the rules of golf I would say less then 50% of golfer who tee it up atleast once per year can break 110. According to the The National Golf Foundation the average Adult male golf score is 98.3. Of course this is of golfers that would submit their score (wich lower the average a fair bit) and assume that everyone plays by the rules of golf - something I rarely see a high handicapper actually do 100%. Despite these number I ignore the high handicapper set that play less the a dozen rounds per year when I think about a "good" golfer and look to regular players for this I sat the Average golfer is shooting mid -high 90's most of the time, the good player is low 90's/ high 80's very good is low 80's and excellent is under 80 most of the time
  10. Well my journey to single digit cap has started. 72 holes in the last weekend, managed to shoot 95, 93, 91, 90 (in that order) if the trend continues I should be a scratch golfer by the end of the month (;
  11. My work rounds are down a bit this year, looks like I may only play 15-20. Way too many of those are best ball tournements or with folks that can't break 110. still not a bad way to make a living but not nearly as fun as it may sound.
  12. No Physical limitions. Iam not a gifted with natural speed or dexterity, but I am mmost likely a bit above average as far as raw ability goes. From allot of time spent training at high levels also know what it means to really practice hard.
  13. I agree with you about the short game thing. When I have played my best golf is when I have practiced a tonne around and on the green. The nice thing is I find this the easiest thing to practice. As my Golf Club is 3 minutes from home and on my way to and from anywhere I stop in and practice for 30min - 1hour several times a week.
  14. No plans to turn pro or even compete in a local tourney I do just want to have fun (But I never find doing things poorley much fun)
  15. Okay a few points on this. 1. Slope is 148 from the tips - I played from the whites and I don't know what the slope is from those and couln't find it on the net when i posted 2. This is links style course and I played it on a day with little wind and early enough in the year that the rough was not a factor. 3. though I had been shooting 90's most of the time that season, I have spent a season or two as a low 80's golfer and this was my second round on the good side of 80. oh yes and my 350 yards drives helped too
  16. I have started to wonder if I could ever be “good” at golf. Here is my story in a nut shell: -Picked up Golf 8 years ago at 27 -worked hard, took lessons, played allot 6-7 months during the year -with in three years I was shooting rounds in the high 80’s low 90’s. twice shot in the 70’s -As time passed I drifted in out of practicing golf allot, but each year I played 25+ rounds -I have always fought my swing (it gets better, gets dialed in and then 2 weeks later it falls apart, and I start all over again) - I am 6’ 190lbs 35 years old – reasonably fit (I work out, ran a “mini tri” this year, Run 5miles a few times week) - I am not all that athletic – sounds weird given I played 2 sport at a national level until my early 20’s, but I was not a natural at either one, but rather worked very hard at each. - I tend to “try to hard” at golf and this gets in the way of me playing better -Last year I only golfed for work – and played 25 rounds. Didn’t break 90 once. I am now looking to recommit myself to golf, by joining a private club, golfing year round and trying to play 60-70 rounds in the next 12month plus practice my short game for a few hours a week. My goal is to be a single digit handicapper (that is my definition good). Do I have a chance? How many years will it take?
  17. Casual water - but i am surpised the the course doesn't have a local rule about it
  18. I usually shoot in the 90's and one day on work trip I go out play Crowbush in PEI it has a slope of 148 and I shot a 7 over 79. I couldn't believe it. I was stunned most of the day as the ball just kept going where I wanted it to. It weird how sometimes golf through you a bone like that.
  19. I would suggested some used clubs. They are cheap and thats a good thing as until you really got you swing back you'll not know what flex shaft and other specs are going to work for you long term
