When you start a thread on a golf forums titled "you know you're addicted to golf when..." :P
-
Yeah, anything that tells you about distance requires gps. But they do have pretty simple apps like scorecards where you can easily keep track of your strokes, GIRs, fairways hit, putts, etc

Anyone out there surf the forums and post from their blackberry or iphone? I just got the brand new blackberry, the tour 9630 and I love it. I'm posting on the forums with it too. I also downloaded an app: bbgps golf, which basically gives me yardage to points on the hole, just like those stand alone gps. It also can tell me the distance I hit a shot and a lot of other cool stuff. Anyone else know any other cool golf related applications for the blackberry?

I may be in the minority here, but I would consider that strategy. As long as you aren't being ridiculous, obnoxious, etc. Then again, i've never played a best ball tourney so.

I would definitely be interested in checking out used clubs. This seems like a pretty good deal. Any other ones you'd recommend looking into?
-
Still could use more opinions and advice :D

Congrats a lot man :) That first time breaking 100 feels awesome. In no time you'll be breaking 100 consistently! I'm trying to break 100 consistently as well. Good luck to you!

Yeah I do. Maybe 55-60?

What if you have a phone such as the Blackberry or the iPhone, could you just totally whatever eBay options you want.
-
It has 4 days 21 hours left on it. It will increase rapidly, faster and faster until it reaches the end. I don't really use eBay, but I didn't notice a buy out price either. So it will definitely increase a ton. Edit: Beaten to it by a bunch of people.

Should you be allowed to use a GPS during a tournament?
Knockglock replied to CG031's topic in Golf Talk
Personally, I feel that it is a slippery slope. What if someone's GPS malfunctions? I guess what would probably happen is that they would be out of luck. I just feel like it is basterdizing golf too much. It's just a little bit too unnatural. However, I do think GPS is very cool, so I am torn. It's hard to say for me. -
Thanks a lot for this response. Very helpful. Iowa Hawkeye also was extremely helpful and he showed me these clubs: http://www.adamsgolf.com/products/irons/a7_set.php I'm definitely strongly considering them. $599 (for steel, $699 for graphite) for 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 5i-Pw. Pretty much all i'd need to buy on top of that is a wedge. So I can probably get everything for maybe $650-700? More when I include fitting. Seems like a great deal to me, and way less than $1500 or $1000 dollars :D Again, thank you for the helpful posts! Edit: I still need help. What are the main differences between steel and graphite shafts? (and someone else mentioned I should consider iron shafts as well? Which should I go for? I have a fairly slow swing speed, about 80 mph. Also, which shaft flex am I going to want? X,R,S, or A? Sorry I have a lot of questions.

My clubs are about 7 years old. They were pretty much always intended as merely a really cheap starter set, but when I took a long break from golf, I didn't upgrade and so these are my only usable clubs (can't borrow sets from friends, as I am a left, and none of my family plays). The biggest reason I want new clubs is too that my clubs are juniors, which I bought when I was about a foot shorter than I currently am. I want to buy a good set that will last my for several years and meet my needs. Why is it considered buying my game when I want to buy new clubs? Especially considering my clubs are 7 year old extremely cheap junior clubs which are a bit too short for me. I need new clubs. I basically need a whole new set. For the purposes of this post, let's pretend that I currently have no clubs. The clubs I have don't fit me anymore. So if people could please help me choose a good set of irons that will last me a while and meet my needs as I improve, i'd appreciate it. Also, I noticed a huge difference between my junky driver and my new driver. I also notice a difference with other irons. So please don't tell me that equipment isn't important (to some degree).

So, my birthday is coming up in two days, and for my birthday I am going to buy myself a set of irons. However, the problem is, I am very new when it comes to golf equipment. I have been using old clubs. Recently, I upgraded my old Wilson driver to a used Taylormade R7, which i've really enjoyed so far (my first good piece of equipment ever). I'm a left-handed golfer. Recently picked it up again after a several year break a few months ago. I went to Golfsmith and hit a bunch of clubs. My swing speed was roughly 80 miles per hour or so. My price range is $400-$600, however, I would be willing to get to $700 or even $800 if it would really be worth it. I was wondering what recommendations everyone has for me (as well as a recommendation on whether steel or graphite would be better). If it helps, I shoot right around 100 average (sometimes better, sometimes not). I'm about 6'1" bare-footed, and 6'2" with golf shoes (roughly). I'm fairly good with my short irons. I hit 7-9 irons pretty consistently, and the 6 iron decently. The 5 iron and below I don't hit very well. I have a somewhat steep swing, and also swing from out to in. I also need new wedges, and a hybrid or two. My tentative plan at the moment is to buy a set of irons, and replace the 3 and 4 iron with hybrids, and, if the set doesn't include one, a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. I'm having a hard time pulling the trigger, and am feeling very unsure and hesitant. Please help me out in any way you can. Thanks.

So today I went to the range as I do several times a week with one of my buddies, we started by hitting balls off the range. I start with my 9-iron, work down to my 7-iron, then pull out my driver and pop a few down the range. After this, I head down to the chipping range to work on my short game. I've somewhat neglected my chipping and putting lately, but after signing up for the forums yesterday and reading around, I realized that I need to put more emphasize on my short-game, and stop giving up needless strokes a round. I notice an older golfer about twenty or thirty yards off the chipping green lobbing up some approach shots over people's heads. Momentarily irritated, I put it out of my mind and started focusing on my chips. I chip around for forty-five minutes or so, and it's not very crowded. I'm focused and serious and getting into a good rhythm. I'm chipping with about 8 or 9 balls, when the same older golfer came up to me and roughly and sternly informs me that their is a 5 ball limit on the chipping green. I acknowledge him, but being focused and practicing seriously, I wave him off. I double check to make sure that i'm not being obnoxious or hogging the green. Certain that i'm not causing a trouble for anyone, I keep chipping to the same hole. After chipping to down the hill to the pin for a while, I move below the hole and practice chipping it up the hill. Out of nowhere, the older golfer starts chipping across the entire green to the pin I was currently in the process of sending balls to. Slightly more irritated, I turn to another pin to my left and start chipping to an unused pin. The older golfer comes across the green to collect his balls and gets into my line and says, "Do you not care, or do you not speak English." I respond by saying that, "I'm just practicing my chipping." He goes, "You ****ing kids come in here, do you think you're ****ing special?" Again, I tell him, "I'm just practicing my chips. I don't mess with you when your practicing, don't mess with me." He continues to verbally harass me and I respond with a very mature, "Cry about it." This really pisses him off and he gets up into my face, literally inches away. I hold my ground and he threatens me by saving, "I'm an old mother****ing man. I don't cry about shit... I take care of it." Not wanting to escalate the confrontation, I turn my back on him and go back to chipping. Later, a couple of other golfers approach me and asked what happened. I explained the situation to them, and they said that this older golfer had a bad reputation for thinking that he owned the place. They also confirmed what I believed, that hitting a few extra balls over the limit was not a huge deal. So what do you guys think of me getting harassed on the chipping green? Personally, I thought it was kind of funny, but also kind of uncalled for. There was plenty of chipping area for everyone, and a physical confrontation was completely unnecessary. [In Progress.]

A great way to save money on new clubs
Knockglock replied to EGS's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hmm thanks for the tip! I'm looking for a new set of irons and a couple of hybrids and maybe a new bag so i'll definitely keep this in mind. -
Usually I just chat it up with my buddy, mainly talking golf. Play with my phone a little bit sometimes. Watch the group in front of me and wait for them to finish.

I'm trying to decide on a new iron set as well. I'm curious to see what you end up choosing.

I personally dislike mats. I usually don't hold much weight to shots done on a mat. I feel like its a no-win situation, if I swing slightly different to compensate for the mats it isn't good practice, but if I keep my swing the same the mat keeps me from making a divot and its a little bit awkward.

Congrats man. Keep it up
