Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that. The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.

Maybe not just the 18 & 15 angle though. Jack's consistency over a long period of time is pretty incredible. Kind of mindblowing to look at his total number of Top 5 finishes in the majors.

I think the players really don't know what's happening at the moment. PGA Tour executives negotiated with Saudi government behind the back of the players. Everyone is still waiting for PGA Tour and Saudi government to figure out all the fine print details and announce it to the players/media.

PGA Tour announced that Monahan is recovering from a medical situation. Hopefully he's OK, regardless of how this golf stuff is playing out.

Tiger has been extremely quiet about this news. His Twitter account seems to be focused on his Putt-Putt business and the new indoor simulator league.

This is true, but Saudi also has had some financial issues recently. At any moment, they could pull the funding in golf. They've said they expect a return on investment. Golf has a pretty small audience compared to other sports. If we get a few years down the road and Saudi is not happy with the investment return, I would not expect them to continue pumping money into it. Hard to believe that they will stay with a 48-player format. They’re attempting to buy everyone in golf.

I would like to see them go to the most scenic places they can play around the world, whether it’s a course on the coast or mountains, etc.

Quite a flip-flop from Koepka. He went from saying $200 million was not enough to get him to jump a couple years ago. So how much did he get? $400 million? LOL

PGA Tour is the 100% owner on the Presidents Cup, but I don't think the players care about it. Ryder Cup is the more interesting one. Co-owned by PGA of America and the Euro Tour. So far it seems the Euro Tour is going with a more neutral approach on LIV Golf. Won't surprise me if all 4 majors go that way too. Neutrality is the better course of action for them.

Besides that, they were rivals during the peak of their playing days. If I won 6 majors and the other guy won 2 majors, I wouldn't want him to be my boss. The fact that Norman has a giant ego does not help matters. Look at his "brainwashed" comments on Rory McIlroy. Greg Norman is at least part of the reason Tiger & Rory have turned down this Saudi project.

Hopefully Faldo is serious about retiring to a farm and fishing, not joining LIV Golf. Very hard to imagine Faldo answering to Greg Norman as the boss.

It is more of a tournament from the standpoint that many things can happen between Hole 54 and Hole 72. Just ask Greg Norman, who knows more than anyone how tough it is to finish strong in a 72-hole event.

Tiger will not want to spend his time doing that. He has a million other things to worry about in his life.

It sounds like a decent excuse at the moment, but that will change when the LIV Tour goes to 14 events plus 4 majors. It will change even more if the Saudi government pulls a Darth Vader (to Lando Calrissian) and changes the season from 14 events to 30 events or 40 events or even 50 events. Saudi government owns these players, whether the players realize it or not. Mickelson said it months ago: "Scary dudes to get involved with." There is no punishment for the Saudi government if they decide to abuse the players in some way, whether it's a 50-week schedule or refusing to pay them or whatever.

Not surprising. Euros don't care about the Saudi problem. 9/11 didn't happen on their soil. They already have a bunch of Saudi money in Euro sports, including Euro Tour golf. Funny thing is the 15-event minimum on the PGA Tour includes the majors and the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup. So in reality it's a 10-event minimum for regular Tour events if you are good enough to make the "Cup" teams. So they are looking at a heavier schedule with the Saudi league. And make no mistake, the Saudis own them with these large guaranteed contracts. 5 years down the road, they could amp up the Saudi league schedule to 40 events and force these guys to play every week. If a player quits, what is to stop the Saudis from attacking them or their family? It's a government that answers to NOBODY.

If there is a merger between PGA Tour & Euro Tour, it will be interesting to see what they do with the schedule. Also think it would be cool to see the record books mixed together, so that you have guys like Ballesteros & Langer on the same list with guys like Hogan, Snead, etc. My biggest concern with LIV is the potential for them to basically wipe out the history involving so many legends of the game. McIlroy, Thomas, Rahm, and Tiger have all spoken about how important that is to them.

I'm pretty impressed with Jon Rahm's willpower to say "no" to the $400M. Rahm, McIlroy, Thomas (and Tiger) have all made valid points about how it's not a great idea to basically have a total reset when you have a ton of legendary names in the PGA Tour record books going back 90+ years. There is plenty of room for improvement with the PGA Tour, but this LIV deal sure seems like throwing out the baby with the bathwater. At the end of the day, money talks. If the Saudis & Norman stay committed to this project, it's hard to imagine that they will lose against a competitor with far less money.
