  1. Last summer I purchased a set of Wilson Staff Pi7s. Very little offset. Definitely feel better than my old set ie less vibration. Cheap too. Bought them from Hurricane Golf who specialize in close-out clubs. I guess they were the year befores model. Love them and they look great too. Stainless steel with black cavity back. Its a bitch keeping them shinny.
  2. I have been thinking about the same thing. Other than keeping the ball in the fairway one could clean their clubs with a proper cleanser then give them a polish. Obviously it will do nothing for the nicks and dents but they'll sure look shiny if they're stainless steel. I'm going to give mine a working over before the warm weather gets to Philadelphia.
  3. Not enough time spent practicing. Especially from 50 yards and in. I have to sneak onto my local course to get the ideal practice area. But can't do it in the fall or winter because of sunlight or on weekends other than in the spring and summer due to crowds and sunset.
  4. Go online a pick up a used Phil Mickelson short game DVD. I purchased one for only $15. I've learned so much. There is nothing more satisfying than looking back on your scorecard and noticing how many times you one putted after a chip or pitch. Phil calls his method the "hinge and hold". Also, I avoid getting tips off of these threads. There are too many conflicting opinions.
  5. Yes, I adjust my swing to compensate for distance. I take a 7i that max goes 165 and just swing 3/4s for a 150 yd shot that in the past I would have used a 8i. Now I never really overswing. And, my bag weights much less.
  6. What a revelation. I can't remember where I'd read about it first but the suggestion to remove your least reliable clubs from the bag in order to get better with fewer "go to" clubs has been a success. Now carry: Driver, Hybrid 19 degree, 5i, 7i, 9i, Pw, Sw, Lw, Pu I use my Pw from anywhere between 140ish to 75 yds, then I use my Sw from 75 and in. Lw is strickly for what seem to be short sided recovery shots around the green. Now if I could just learn to chip and putt I'd have a single digit handicap.
  7. Why is it common for clubs in the United Kingdom to have policies stating that 3 and 4 ball matches have no standing, as they say, when compared to 2 ball matches? Is it simply a matter of the pace of play, or tradition, or perhaps both?
  8. ARGH!! I shot an 82 this weekend with a triple bogey on the last hole. Nice three wood to the middle of the fairway leaving a shot of 192 yds from a downhill lie to an uphill green with a creek about 40 yards in front of me. (It's a poorly designed hole with a creek about 270 yds downhill from the tee then uphill another 160 yds to the green.) You guessed it. Chunked it into the creek, dropped, missed the green, chipped, then missed the putt. Oh well. Earlier in the round I chunked a downhill lie. Had one four putt and one three putt. 33 putts total.
  9. Last year I bought Pelz's Short Game Bible and started to focus on the short game and have taken probably ten strokes off my score. Still a work in progress though.
  10. Alot of excellent ideas. Has anyone been helped by reading a book on the mental side of golf?
  11. I shot an 86 on a tough course I never played before. Only my second round with my new irons (Wilson Staff Pi7, love them). I learned so much. Breaking 80 is all about the little things. Choosing the right club. A few times I walked up to my ball to chip and realized I should be using a different lofted wedge. Forgetting my swing thought, being lazy. Going for it when I should have laid up. Rushing my shot. I learned today that the mental game is 50% of the game if not more. Question. You fellas that are single digit handicaps (I'm a very frustrated 13 hcp). Do you have any tips for breaking 80? Any tips on how to keep your concentration?
  12. Thanks. It's impossible to do online searches for non offset.
  13. players irons. sort of like a cavity back Mizuno. Not blades.
  14. I am looking for a set of irons that are not offset or at least minimally off set. I used to slice my irons. I have gotten better since I purchased my offset clubs but now I'm consistently drawing or overdrawing the ball. Would non offset clubs put less draw spin on my well struck shots? But back to the point. I'm finding it difficult to find non offset clubs online?
  15. Try choking up so your sort of simulating your shorter clubs.
  16. I bought a complete "new" set of clubs, Hogan HBs that were a model of club that was few years old. Half the set was regular flex and half the set were stiff! I'll never buy clubs online again.
  17. 1. Break 80 2. A three putt free round (already had one but I want another so I know its not a fluke) 3. A 100% on up and downs for a round (this may be asking too much)
  18. Jack is the man until Tiger beats his majors record. And Jack played against much tougher competition.
  19. I'm a paralegal with the Justice Department. I signed up to The Sand Trap because I'm addicted to all things golf and I need an outlet.
