...you may not but the starter should never allow a single off with foursomes in que. Also, the point about playing through. If a foursome were to catch you on say th 12th hole, and you were waiting to tee off due to a back up in front of you, the foursome would have the right of way.
-
I'm pretty sure there is a rule pretaing to this. If not, it is a rule that was ingrained into me at an early point in my "learning ettiquite". However...I agree that most and I would allow a single to play through at most any time. Where a single has "no rights" on a course is if a "foursome" behind a single comes up on that single say waiting to tee off, the foursome has "the right of way" to play through the single.

IMHO...yes...the different tees and length are the "handicap" given to women. So ineffect they are playing the same course as the men.

...ettiquite at a private club vs. a public course is different. At a public course if the group that was in front of you is "not at the ready" on the 10th tee due to a pit stop at the turn and you are...fire away. Having said this...if there are no open holes in front of the group that was in front of you...I would be pissed for jumping ahead of me and let you know it. I would also (as the group wishing to pass) do everything I could to find the slow group and let them know that we (the fast group) were intending to play through. In general...playing through at a public course is awkward due to the fact that most people who play at public courses do not know or understand how to properly "play through". Again, unless there is a ample number of holes open in front, playing through is probably not going to help. I suugest looking for the beer cart and stock up on those ever so slow days.

with regards to ettiquite...singles basically have no "rights" on a golf course. In other words, if a single is baggering you about slow play he or she is out of line. As to wether you as the fast playing group should ask...not really. If you are obviously pushing the group in front, let them know you are willing and ready to tee it up, hit, and move quickly through by waiting at the tee or fairway position from behind. The group in front should have the werewithall to realize that you are ready and want to play through. They should then wave you to play up. All players should be ready to go. As stated before, unless there are several holes open in front of the slow group, playing through may not get you very far, hence the reason for the slow group to make the call as to wether or not to let the faster group through.

agreed....Paul Casey is hot right now. I hope he peaked at the Match Play Championship. I mean he smoked everyone he played. So I see the Euros winning with Paul Casey and then some unknown smoking the Americans in match play.

if asking politely doesn't work...and they refuse to let you play through....call the clubhouse or 911 and report a group of strange looking men (of possible Middle Eastern decent) are pointing up in the air every time a jetliner flys overhead. Explain that they are jestering meanicingly at the planes with long stick like objects. If nothing else, I would think that they will soon be detained long enough for you to play through.

...it turns golf into a team event. As a Canadian do you have a favorite Hockey Team? As an American, I can get behind the team that will take on the Europeans with much more interest than if it were just an individual. I would think it has a "World Cup Soccer" feel to it. I am starting to get into World Cup Soccer and I can see some similarities with regards to the Nationalistic competition. Also, since the advent of European dominance of this event over the last 15 years, it makes it that much more of a rivalry. If the Ryder cup had continued with American dominace during the 60's. 70's and much of the 80's, I don't think America would be as interested.

I think it's a problem. I think it shows Tigers chink. Ever since the US Amatuer, Tiger has not shown a consistant ability to win in match play. After he reeled off 3 straight Amatuers you would think him unbeatable. However, if you look at his mindset, he wins the task at hand. Meaning during his amatuer carrer he had to win the US Amaturer and did. In his pro carrer he has to win majors, which he does. I don't think he has reprogramed if you will to win at Ryder Cup or match play. He needs four days to conquer the field. The rest of the team has always been in trouble.

...uhhh... I think it's a tree...(falls into gutter)
-
granted...but when I'm playing the weekly nassau and I have that 6 footer to win a six hole push on the 18th green...I want Tigers clutch stroke instead of a choke....

if Michelle could putt I think the Micheles bashers would have little to punt. With regards to putting and Tiger....if I had to bet my house on one of the selected players to make a putt....how can you not say Tiger. Like Jack before him...when it's crunch time Tiger and Jack make it like no others before or since. Since Jack is not on the list...by default it's Tiger.

ouch....Wie is +8 today thru 12 holes. +12 for the tourney....this is not a good thing for her or the PGA. I am starting to convert on the issue of wether or not it is good for her to be playing on the PGA events even with a sponsors invite or exemption. Go home Michelle, concentrate on school and have fun playing golf for your High School.

you would really rather watch a Ryan Moore/ Scott Verplank pairing than a John Daly/ Michelle Wie pairing? I will admit to cringing on several of her putts and the drives that made me look good, but still I find in fascinating to watch her play. I would like to see more of how she stacks up to her playing partner off the tee though.
-
...so I hope J.D gets paired up with her today. The PGA and 84 Lumber would really hate that. John Daly and Michele Wie playing together.....I may be the only one interested in that pair huh....on a lighter note...I did catch a couple of her duck hook drives and felt much better about myself.....
-
...you mean Micheel isn't on the team?...oh crap.....forget about the previous theroy....were toast....
-
I see this as a "Take one for the Team" strategy. See Tiger loses to Micheel to boost Micheels confidence. Furyuk loses to give the Euros a false sense of "see the Americans will choke" feeling. It's a great ploy....I hope.....

I think Tigers tired and needs a nap..

...so you're not comfortable with Phils "man boobs"?

isn't there a rule that says if you witness a violation and don't call the penalty you too are in violation of a rule or something to that effect?
-
while I DO play by the rules....I used to play with a group that had about 3-4 foursomes teeing off consecutively. Basically 12 to 16 multi team and individual nassaus amongst the groups. Anyway they had a standing rule...Improve your lie anywhere except hazards. The idea being that it would eliminate the most common form of cheating "playing it as it lies". It was funny as I could rarely force myself to do this. If I was in the rough I could never bring myself to improving my lie even though it was an accepted practice within the group. I would and will however reward myself in it's in the fairway and in a divot. I am no pro and cannot hit it out of a divot. For my $100 per round I'll take the better lie and feel good about my sorry game. I guess if I ever get down into the single digits I'll play it where it lies, until then I'll keep looking for the cart girl and more beer. p.s...I still get logged out....neeener...neener...

i enjoy Johhny on TV, but did you catch any of the TV Analyst Golf match this weekend. I also like MaCord, but did anyone else get the sense that by the second or third hole, everyone, including his partner Lanny Wadkins, wanted to kill him? I mean by the 9th hole he had all but shut up as he got his ass hannded to him by Miller and Maltby
-
thankfully (IMHO) you're right, most people don't know every rule of golf...thereby keeping rounds to the current intermenable 5 hours instead of six or seven. My point remains.....if I were a pro I would know and adhere to the letter of the law...I'm not...so next time I forget to replace my ball mark I won't be DQ'ed after I sign an incorrect card....tourneyment notwithstanding....
-
give me six a side and I will not only play by the rules but I'll let you keep score in that nassau!
-
...per your aruguement pretaing to the rules you have issues with...I apply this with common sense during friendly golf outings. Meaning that a strict adherance to EVERY rule in the book would not only be amazing, but lessen the experience of an enjoyable round. Arnold Palmer can talk about the purity of golf and it's reverance. When I'm out with friends I take it for what it is, fun. Having said that, when I play a round with my friends that are pro's I have a very different demeanor on the course. BTW...WTF do I keep getting logged out every time I post?
