Lee Westwood. I believe the most appropriate phrase would be "most accomplished player...", in which case Lee fits the bill perfectly. Bubba, DJ and the others are really just beginning to become noteworthy players, while Lee has been one of the world's best for quite a while. If he can figure out how to putt, he'll take home a major trophy this year.

custom length clubs for tall beginner?
jldavis73 replied to beginner2's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The OP stated: "I am not ready to spend large sums at this time." I recommended checking on the websites because it is free, and will give the guy an idea if he needs to change the length of his clubs. Not ideal, but will yield better results than just staying with OTR equipment. Dynamic fitting is ideal, but is more expensive and time consuming. -
+1. I think the point of this thread is that J.B. would likely play BETTER if he played a little FASTER. His routine shows serious self-doubt and indecision.

I respectfully ask you to consider this: how "big" would a dominant golfer from the Far East be? Imagine a Chinese golfer ascending to World #1. His impact would dwarf Tiger's. There is always someone who is "the Greatest", until the next one comes along.

Here's why I discourage open sharing of golf equipment: My friend just purchased a new driver. After several successful swings, he asks if I'd like to try it. The first ball, the VERY FIRST SWING I take with his new club, the head breaks off and flies literally 100 yards into the driving range. What was truly terrifying is that we NEVER found it. Looked for it at least an hour...to no avail.

I pull for J.B. because he's from Kentucky, but I'm with everyone else on the issue of slow play. It would have to help him to speed it up. I love it when he's near the top of the leaderboards, but I hate to actually watch him play. Those last 2 holes at the Accenture were ridiculous. The little plumb-bob dance on the green that we get to see TWICE is very, very special.

It's a great looking bag. I've got a TM Stratus and hate it. Not enough space. That Callaway appears to have ample storage capacity. Good purchase, especially for $100! I just ordered the Sun Mountain C-130. Can't wait!

Your TaylorMade clubs are gonna stage a nasty revolution!

What up nuck!?! Great idea. You can also do this on the PING site (well, at least you could...). -
I can't imagine anyone being "busier" than Mr. Woods. WOW, you would require near constant medical attention! Seriously, I'm sure he isn't the only player with addictions...we all have them.

The future of the PGA Tour doesn't rest in Tiger's hands. As long as people play golf, there will be a pro tour. The success of that tour post-Tiger is in their own hands. They need to appropriately market the other big names and "young guns" so that we also care about their play, as well. Look at the NBA. They rode the Magic vs. Bird train for a long time, then Jordan was the primary marketing piece, and that mushroomed into mass marketing many players. Now it's a sport watched all over the world.

In reference to Tiger: "All the king's horses and all the king's men Couldn't put Humpty together again." Might have really helped him to play the Honda. He needs reps, man! Driving range success is great, but do it in a tournament when it really matters!

I just now started using the camera. I have a buddy that I golf with, we take turns recording a few swings with contact. There are a couple things I was really looking for: am I taking the club too far inside; am I casting or throwing the club away. Watching playback in slow motion will reveal the answers. I just hook it up to the TV. I don't have a "golf swing analyzer software package" on the computer!
-
Wait until you view your full swing in slow motion. It'll make you feel like a novice. I have put in some time this winter working on my move, and used our Kodak PlaySport to take a look. It was like watching a horror movie. I seem to have developed a nice little head lifting issue that I never "felt" myself doing. Back to the drawing board... Best of luck!

Golf Equipment Pricing ("Cost" vs. Retail)
jldavis73 replied to nickel_aTm's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have a friendly acquaintance that is a golf pro. He said that he gets different pricing than Dick's Sporting Goods or other large retailers because of their volume. He'll pay more and have to sell it for less than they will. His club selling volume is waaaaay down over the last couple of years. Not sure about specifics, but he said just beats his break even now on equipment. He carries product as a courtesy to course membership and doesn't expect to make much on clubs. -

Hey OP, that's a pretty good looking swing. I am in no way qualified to give technical advice, but would like to respond to the statements made about playing the ball further forward in your stance. I felt like ball position was one thing I had correct, but after placing a shaft perpindicular to my stance, I realized that was an optical illusion. I was playing every club waaaaay too far back, which really impacted consistency. The last few range sessions, I worked on moving the ball forward just a little, and have noticed an improvement already. I encourage you to try using a couple clubs to REALLY evaluate where the ball is in relation to your set-up. I apologize if you have already done this... Good luck!

I watch the show. I'm not a teacher, pro, or really even a very good golfer. Marty wasn't teaching a flip move so much as a cast move. What a great swing technique.

I think this debate really centers around your game vs. the golf course. In my case, I miss greens but usually just by a little. At my home course, this means playing a pitch to the proper section of the green. I also am a bit of a long hitter, so a 64* allows me to use driver on a couple more holes and better birdie opportunities (specifically, 2 par 4's that are shortish but play uphill to small greens that slope away from front to back). When I play longer courses, I don't use it as much. I think that before players choose to leave it out of the bag, they should at least try one. Everyone is making very valid points!

Golfdotz.... badass on clubs???
jldavis73 replied to natp0wers's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just ordered some. Dear God, what have I become... -
I bought a set of the R9, 4-PW w/DG X100 to my specs last August. I can't comment on the X24's, so no comparison. I can tell you that I've been very please with the R9's. They are great looking irons, and the finish and badging holds up well to abuse. I definitely don't coddle my stuff...The long irons are unbelievable. They have an almost trampoline feel because of the foam between the cavity and face. I just ordered a custom 3 iron bent strong to replace my old 5 wood. Overall, the R9's are very long and forgiving. The heads are oversized, of course, but are sort of in between a blade and a super game-improvement iron. They have a slight camber from heel to toe, and because of this they play well out of the rough. With the appropriate shaft, you'll love 'em.

I play a 52*/58*/64* wedge setup. I'm not sure why folks are so hesitant to play a 60* or even higher lofted wedge. It makes sense because, as amateurs, we are going to be left with many more shots from 50 yards and in than a professional. If you just let the club do the work, a 64* is great. I put it in play because my home course has greens with very small landing areas, and the extra loft helps me execute shots much easier than even a 60* would. I believe you do need some clubhead speed to get the most out of a high lob wedge, so try it with a cheap club before buying a new Vokey...
