  1. Agreed Life Tilt That is very funny No doubt...hell I was partners with one for 36 holes this weekend. Great guy, we laughed for two days, he carries an Index of 7.2 or in that range...it is still old man golf. Think about it. I am not saying anything bad about it or that it is an inferior (spelling?) game. Just that it takes time, practice and discipline to play that game...and many old men use it very well. Maybe it is because I play at a club where over 50 percent of the members are 60 plus years old....I see it everyday.
  2. It is old man golf and works remarkably well if you are disciplined enough to do it. Short off T, lay up to in front of green, chip on, one putt….smile and wink as the younger guys are carding a bogey or worse. LOL part of the reason we love golf…there is something for everyone.
  3. buy a clip...wear it on your belt...
  4. I had the same problem, slice corrected to nasty hook. I spent hours on the range changed my grip, stance slightly each and moved ball little forward in my set up...swing slower. I am hitting ball 20 to 30 yards longer off the T. My Irons have become little shorter due to opening them up a hair. I used to have the club face way closed. Bottom line is with practice handicap is dropping fast. Shot 84 / 87 playing as a 14 this weekend in our clubs fall outing.
  5. Oh my god...delete the round from your mind. I index a 12.5 and shot a 101 on Tuesday...and I was suicidal. Had been playing great till then, I just wrote it off to a bad day. I spent 4 hours at the range over the last two days. Hope for better today....
  6. +4.....WTF spend a fair amount of time working on that swing I guess.
  7. I am constantly fighting a hook...working on opening the club face, not coming so far inside on back swing and having a better set up. the problem is when i set up properly it feels all wrong....it is going to take a lot of reps.
  8. UGH...I hate you both. I will freezing in PA thinking 40 degrees is a nice day for 9!!!
  9. UGH...I hate you both. I will freezing on PA thinking 40 degrees is a nice day for 9!!!
  10. I agree with your comments on a score in match play. It is almost all we play at my club. I have only played a couple stoke play rounds in the last two years. You post a score based on what you shot and the hole itself. if you finish the hole the score is correct. If you are a 16 (or there about) you only are noty allowed to post more then a double bogey on each hole anyway...all you are really bridging is a shot or two here or there. Plus the posted score typically comes in slightly lower then the real total. Why do you post score at all in match play? Gambling!! Handicaps!! which allow more gambling!! Think about it I have posted close to 50 rounds this year. Of those 47 at match play, if i didn't post them I would show 3 rounds for the season. Talk about Variance.
  11. I play almost all match play...my style varies from hole to hole and sometimes from shot to shot depending on the villian and or my partner. That is part of what makes match play so much fun. I may attack a green from 230 on par 5 because it gives me the only chance to win...while the next day on the same hole, with the same shot, i may be hitting a 7 iron to lay-up...just depends.
  12. Quoted for TRUTH!!!
  13. I agree on High HC having a bigger spread with the chance of going real low. I know at our club for events like the club champ, member guest, fall classic and so on they play 90 percent of HC. I will be be playing at as 13 to the course this weekend. I know some clubs play to 80 percent for these events. I am not really sure what is best. Funny thing about posting scores. As a higher HC with my foursome I actually get forced into recording lower rounds. Example. I am on the green a tough par 4 in 3 shots. My short game is solid so say I am in makeable par range say less then 10'...one of my buddies makes a birdie, what comes next "pickem up" hole is over and post a 4 for the hole. same thing happens if I get in trouble off the T and have a bogey putt. If i am not stroking on the hole it is over...pickem up. I wish I made 60 percent of my 10 footers. I don't even have a problem with it due to the way match play is formatted but it certainly cuts at least a stroke or two from your score.
  14. I can say that if used properly the system works. I play every Friday with the same foursome. We post all rounds. The low man is an 8 and top is a 15. We throw balls to pick partners. Just about every front 9 comes down to # 9 (I stroke there) and almost every match comes down to #18 (I also stroke there) but we are legit with post honest scores. I have posted 49 rounds so far this year and I am a legit 12.5 Index…I did have one 79 and three rounds in the low 80’s but that is less then 10 percent of the posted rounds. Right now my card is sweet for my level of play. I am playing this weekend in our clubs fall outing if I play well I can make a bunch of money, as in a couple thousand. I have been on the range or chipping green 2 or 3 times a week for the last month getting ready. My game is tight right now…does that mean if I go shoot an 80 I am sand bagging? I don’t believe so because I have posted an honest number every round I have played. I just happen to have been practicing more then playing lately.
  15. I think is hole #8 at Caladonia in Myrtle Beach. Simple enough par 5. Drive no problem, little fat on my my lay-up but no problem. Left with 65 yars to pin in very front of green. Stream in front, LOTS of room behine flag....hit 4 into the water WTF.
  16. he best way to stop choking...not trying to be funny here is to bet on every possible round you can get a game. Playing for money changes the way you approach golf and the green on #18 looks a hell of a lot smaller when you know if you hit a good shot you win...bad shot you lose!! Tournament golf is much the same. One shot can kiil you so must learn to handle the nerves. Love to gamble!!
  17. I don't know but i hope find out one day. The first time I had chance to break 80 all I needed was a bogey on 18 to do it...so I hit the drive into the next county...and proceeded to post an 81. Cough cough...
  18. I play X-20's and love them. Callaway preowned is awesome for replacement parts...if you break one!!
