Well, a few things. First, my home course is 5,800 yards with a ton of elevated tee boxes (plus 3 of the par 3's are 215 yards+ so some of the yardage is embedded in those). There is only one par 4 over 400 yards and even that one, the tee box is elevated about 40 yards over the fairway so the ball flies. Second, i don't really think of hitting every green, or any green for that matter. If i'm 190 yards out i dont try to be a hero and rip my 4 iron there, i'd rather hit a pitching wedge, then hit a full 52/58 degree wedge in. I am too inconsistent with my longer clubs to consider using them on the course, i would end up losing 8 penalty strokes. By doing this my ball striking is improving a ton, and my short game gets a TON of practice every single round. I feel confident from everywhere 100 yards and in because i have played those shots so many times. I understand that playing this way 100% eliminates birdie attempts and even makes getting par's difficult but the distance will come eventually for me. And once the distance and longer clubs come, then my handicap will start to drop again.

I am only 185 to 190 off the tee, but thats because i use a 4 iron since i am still struggling with the longer clubs. That being said, i have dropped from a 36 to a 19.6 this year using just my irons, so im super excited for next season

Just eclipsed 45 rounds played this year and have broken 90 three times, with my personal best coming yesterday when i shot an 87! It wasn't an exciting round though as im changing my swing plane and need to use my 5/6 iron off the tee for consitency for the time being. My problems off the tee continue as well as some ball striking but i was getting up and down yesterday like it was my job. I think my new goal is going to be much more specific and thats to start hitting more fairways and using longer clubs so that i can hit more GIR. My 87 yesterday i hit 2 GIR's

I have been struggling with an over the top swing since i started golfing last year. I had been to a few instructors but the last one i saw really helped me understand it. He put my swing on video and walked me through what i was doing wrong and how to fix it (i think it helped more because i am a very visual person). I know changing a swing plane is one of the toughest things to do in golf but this is definitely frustrating. I feel like i am more comfortable with my wedges up till my 6 iron with this new swing....but when it comes to the hybrids and woods i feel like i fall inbetween my new swing and old swing and the results are just terrible. Has anyone gone through this swing change and suffered from the same issue? (that being the longer clubs being the hardest to swing from the inside?) Did anything help you get past this?

I started the year at a 36 handicap, shooting around 115 on my home course and i finally broke 90 two weekends ago with a back to back 89's. I am now a 21.4 handicap but have a terrible over the top swing motion(which golf school this past weekend clearly pointed out to me but also put in simple terms so i understand it more now). So i dropped 16 strokes on my handicap this season but i have played 40+ rounds and August 2009 was the first time i ever picked up a club. I am going to spend the next 2 months working hard on swinging from the inside and ridding this terrible swing path and see if my scores continue to drop

before the golf school i attended this past weekend, i was using my 58 for EVERYTHING around the green. now i use a Pitching wedge and my misses are 3 times closer than when i was throwing it up there with a lob wedge

2 day school w/o hotel was $399 per person. Hotel is seperate and you could pay anywhere from 90 to 300 a night depending on where you want to stay.

Just got back from a two day class up in Vermont. I went up there Friday evening with two of my buddies for a two day class(sat/sun)....let me just say, it was fantastic! We covered chipping, putting, pitching from 25 to 50 yards, bunker play, on course instruction for different lies, etc and then we moved on to full swing. He put all of our swings on film and went through each sequence and showed us what we did well and what we needed to work on. He even sent us home with a DVD with a his voice over showing us our swings and what we needed to work on and what drills to do to help improve. I already knew i suffered from an over the top move, but to see it on video was just depressing. He flat out told me that it wasn't something he could fix in two days, but he gave me drills to work on to hit from the inside and get my arm in the slot to help avoid the over the top move. The course itself was also beautiful, we played 18 on Saturday after our lesson and wanted to do 18 more Sunday but had a 3.5 hour drive home ahead of us so could not. Bottom line, i would recommend this to anyone who wants to improve, it was a great learning experience and i definately took alot away from it. Now to work on that swing plane.

anything? Really want to get this for this weekend...

I played most of the season with Srixon soft feel balls that i bought from lostgolfballs.com .I just switched to Callaway HX Hot three piece balls and i have an issue. I love the HX HOT off the tee, i am getting much better distance. I also really like them on my approach shots...but i like the Srixon around the green...chip/putting etc. Is there a ball that is a blend of the two?

handicap down to 21.4 &.............shot an 89 today, had to hit a 12 foot put on 18th hole, but i hit it!

also wouldn't be opposed to a 2 day intensive golf school, that would be a ton of fun

Looks like my wife is going away for the weekend as is my buddy's wife as well. We are up in Boston and looking for ideas for where we could fly/drive to to have a nice weekend of golf. We want to do 36 Saturday(8/28), 18 Sunday(8/29) and come home early afternoon that same day. Any suggestions or recommendations? We play all the local courses in Mass so would be nice to get away from here but without paying through the roof for it. Not against flying as long as its reasonable, but driving a few hours wouldnt bother me either. Probably head down Friday evening after work, then hit the links early All input appreciated!

How much did lessons help you?
Keith412 replied to Tugglife2's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I started golfing last year in September, played about ten rounds and then started outdoor lessons(took 6 so far this year) last March before this season. I have dropped from a 36 handicap, shooting 115+ on most courses down to a 21.4 handicap so far this year on GHIN(low score of 92 this season). This is all teeing off with a 6 iron all season because i couldnt hit the longer clubs. We started driver work now and i love my new driver and have been able to put it in play. I am going to break 90 this weekend with the added distance off the tee, LESSONS ARE SO WORTH IT -
love my ping rapture 21 degree

uPro Issue/problem
Keith412 replied to juanrjackson's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
possibly unrelated, but the issue i encounter frequently with my Upro is the 3 blinking lights of death. It's when three of the four red lights turn on the main screen when you boot it up, but it never gets to the fourth and it continually reboots. This is caused by when the memory card gets loose, all you need to do it push it in(so it pops out), and then push it back in so it clicks in. This fixes it every single time -
On random question about my driver...i purchased it at Dicks Sporting Goods about two weeks ago when i saw it on clearance for 149.99....it has a diamana blue 63 shaft on it, but when i go to ping.com that doesnt seem to be available, is this a custom shaft? Isn't it weird that this driver has that?
-
i hit the 3 wood, 4 wood and 17 degree hybrid, i liked the rapture v2 4 wood the best so went with that. I found it easier to hit than the 3 wood. Driver 215 to 230 yards, just added this to my bag a few days ago, i am much stronger in my irons Hybrid, 185 to 195 yards 5 Iron 170 to 180 yards, keep in mind the loft on my 5 iron for the x-24's is closer to that of most 4 irons in other sets PW 125 yards Not entirely sure on the 48, 52, and 58 as i hit them thin far too often
-
Any school of thought if i should get the 17 degree hybrid or the 16 degree 3 wood? Will i find situations where certain ones work better than others? I really struggle on the 210 to 220 yard par 3 uphills at my home course. My driver is too much, hybrid is not enough. I will add the 4 iron back in, just need to work with it more to add consistency. My PW is 45 degrees...i use the 48 for approaches from 110 or so effectively thus far, maybe its all mental though

In my bag currently. Ping Rapture 12 degree driver Ping Rapture 21 degree hybrid Callaway X-24 Hot Irons (5I through PW), 5i is 25 degrees Cleveland CG15 Wedges, 48, 52 and 58 degree Nike Method #1 Putter What should i do for the big gap between my driver and hybrid? and is the gap between my 21 degee hybrid and my 5 iron too large? I have a 4 iron thats part of the x-24 hot's but its 22 degrees and i cannot hit it very well. All thoughts welcome. Looking more for hybrid/wood advice and what degree loft to get as i love the ping rapture series

So i have played 27 rounds so far this year and have shot as low as 92 3 times in the past month. I have brought my handicap from 35.6 to 24.7 this season so i think i need a new goal. I want to go for a few rounds in the upper 80;s! Here i come...
-
So i had been shooting around 100 for a while now (this is my first full season of golf). Last week i shot a 95 and a 96 and finally broke the barrier..... but was very inconsistent off the tee with hybrids/woods/driver so i made a decision to use a comfortable club. So....I used my 6 iron off the tee on all holes minus the shorter par 3's (my 3 4 5 clubs are all hybrids, i have the cleveland launcher set). I hit the ball better than i ever have in my entire golf live and shot a 92. I had 11 bogeys (missed 6 par putts), 1 par and 6 double bogeys(2 on par 5's, and 3 on par 3's). On all of the par 4's minus the long ones i was around the green in 2 shots chipping/pitching on. I was giving myself more par opportunities than i ever have in my life and it felt great. My dilemma is, what is the best approach to work in the longer clubs? One at a time? The longer clubs i find msyelf slicing the ball OOB or short and weak. I hit my 6 further off the tee and in the fairway than the rest of the clubs in my bag right now Suggestions? Thoughts? Anyone else in similar situation (My course is only 5,600 yards so using the 6 didn't hurt myself all that bad). I was never reaching any greens in regulation with a driver/wood/hybrid due to weak shots
