  1. What are your favorite courses in the Space Coast area around Melbourne, FL?? I'll be in Cocoa Beach next month and looking for 1 or 2 courses to play. Thanks.
  2. Yeah, it's crazy. It's only been done like 3 other times before in the playoffs.
  3. Awesome! Thanks! Que updated!
  4. Played in the Men's Club Skins today. Only in skins can you shoot your high score, like triple digits, and still have a good day taking home money. Just like last week, I pushed my second shot right on #2, a medium length par 4. However today, it was also short. But I still pulled out my new favorite chipper, my PW. With a a full chip swing, the ball carried 25ft over rough, landed on the fringe, and rolled 40ft breaking right a bunch, and into the cup for birdie. The rest of the round was filled with blown shots and drifting drives. Thankfully, my luck changed at the 18th, a 168yd uphill par 3, where I nailed the green, leaving it 15ft from the pin. Today, I got 2 skins, and shot a 101. Yeah, but ouch.
  5. I'll chime in as a 16 hcp. Quit your whining. Seriously. The truth is that we all have good and bad days. While I won't pretend to stick my head in the sand that guys sandbag on reporting their scores, you have to allow the possibility to a guy having a good round. Yeah, people sandbag their hcp so that they can score better in a tourney. When has that ever changed? BTW, now that my game is improving, I will enter as many tourneys as possible as a 16 hcp. If I have a great day that is better than a low hcp, it's not going to change my sleep habits.
  6. LMAO, the other is your former self???? j/k Sean is hitting the nail on the head. Folks have been trying to quantitate "FEEL" since we started chucking spears, let alone hitting little, dimpled balls. Practice, practice, practice That being said, most people say that a 8 iron is right for chipping. Recently, I started chipping with my PW. And last week I chipped in a 40' for bird. Looks like my PW is the chip de'jour. :)
  7. Ok, so if I'm hearing you'all right, I should caddy the first 18 and then ride the second 18?
  8. (spin-off from old thread Caddy or Cart ) Heading to Portland in a couple weeks to play at my brother-in-law's country club for a couple days. And I will finally get to play 36 holes for the first time. Totally looking forward to it. The course is pretty flat. And I prefer to walk/carry for 18. But I'd rather not set myself up to be fatigued during the 2nd round. So, which would you recommend??? :edit 36 holes in one day.
  9. Go Sharks!!!! Now the wait for their next victim. :) Canucks are battling to force game 7. Go Sharks!
  10. GO BUCKS!!!!
  11. Sharks v Canucks will be a good Western Final. Nabokov v Luongo is be a good battle.
  12. This just in. Today's range session revealed a mystery that has evaded me. Turns out your hands are directly related to the angle of the club face. A simple exercise of working the ball right to left over 4 or 5 shots showed me how my hands were getting stuck in the "open" position. Well I'll be, it's that simple? All these years of accepting that a "fade" was my natural swing. The really fun part was hitting every one of my new Nike irons and work each of them the same amount of right or left with lots of distances. To top it off, I had time to squeeze in 9 holes. And in this round, I had several shots where I tried to work the ball laterally. The best was after my approach hit a sprinkler and kicked right under a couple large pines leaving me 40 yards short of the green. Before today I would have turned towards the fairway for my shot and probably accepted a "short" result. Instead, I played a strong draw on a punch shot that ran the ball around the outside of the trees and right towards the pin, nearly hitting it. It was fun to both hit and watch. For 9, today, I shot a 41.
  13. Go Sharks!!! Get your brooms out.
  14. It's a great day! Sharks Win! Sharks Win! Sharks Win!
  15. Got a round in today and now we're on our way to Game 2. This is a fun day. If my beloved Tiberones win, it will be a great day! Go Sharks!!!
  16. Try the Nike Victory wedges. Very reasonably priced and have great feel.
  17. Saw a guy playing with one this weekend. VERY COOL! He sent his clubs to the next tee box while he walked up to the green. I saw this from two holes back. Unfortunately, I never caught up to him to chat about it. Have you seen this ? It's a robot that follows you without need for controls. Looks too heavy to put in the trunk (or boot). Should be a fun emerging technology.
  18. I just bought 3 Tommy Armour clubs for my daughter at the local sporting goods, Sports Authority. They have single clubs (putter, iron, wood) that you buy based on height. The website adds a utility club. They look to be descent quality. The putter has an insert. The grips are small for small hands. So far my daughter is having a blast with her clubs.
  19. Sharks looked great in game 1 against the Wings. It will be fun to see the egg on many people's mugs that said the Sharks would lose early in the playoffs. GO SHARKS!!!
  20. Yeah, Poppy Hills ispired me to play my best.
  21. Wow, that's verbatim for my warm-up, too.
  22. My latest blog entry got me thinking. http://thesandtrap.com/forum/blog.php?b=236 After having a great round playing Poppy Hills in Pebble Beach for the first time, a round I will never forget, I wonder how many of you'all feel like your game improves with the quality of the course? Btw- tried to search for this topic, but better, golf, and courses may be a little broad.
  23. Played Poppy Hills for the first time. It was so much fun that my brain is still trying to process it all. I planned to get to the course early, about an hour, which was rewarded with clearing fog and the beautiful practice range surface. So often the practice ranges are like hitting off the dirt with a patch or two of grass. At Poppy, it was the first insight I got to the beauty that was about to be revealed. The first hole started with a typical drive for me, a 240 yd shot with about 30 yards of "fade", which dropped my ball in the center/left fairway about 135 from the green. After leaving my approach a little short on a upfront pin, I chipped up and tapped in a 3 footer for par. PAR??? On the #1 handicap hole????? "I must be dreaming" was soon followed by "Uhh Ohh, I just played my best shots." Thankfully, luck was on my side. The round continued with descent ball contact. Even if the ball happened to find the many beaches, I was still able to make the play back into the fairway or green. Man, I love these new Nike Irons and wedges. Then on the 5th, a 505 yd par 5, it went D, 3W, to on the green??? I had an eagle putt? Sure it was 35 ft. up a tier. But it was an eagle putt, none the less. After taping in for bird, I got the feeling that my playing partners were doubting my 17 hdcp. But by the end of the round, I'm sure they were clear that I was having a great round. This opens a new topic that will have to be forummed, do people play better on the better courses? I know I will be back to Poppy Hills in the near future. Unfortunately, the reality is that I will never get that 1st round again. Guess I'll have to try some 1st rounds at more courses. Today, I shot a 91, at Poppy Hills!!!!!!!!
  24. Sharks are looking really good! They will make a deap run. Avs are circling the drain.
