Any reviews of Putters under $100 ?
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I was able to unload my 2-ball SRT for $50 today so I am thinking about uping my budget to $100. I really like the Odyssey White Hot XG1 (blade style). It was on sale for $99 at Golfgalaxy. I also liked the feel of the Crimson mentioned above but the finish on the insert was much to be desired. Kind of sloppy for a $70 putter. Right now leaning towards the White Hot XG1 for $30 more. Really wanted to try out the Adams A7 but it's not an option for me since they don't make a 33" version. -

So I went and tried some out. Finding putters under $100 was tough and especially a 33" one being I am only 5' 4". Would rather not have to get a 34 or 35" cut down. I tried the Ping B60 (mini-mallet style) $89, the Cleveland Classic (blade style) $69 and the Odyssey Crimson (on sale for $69) and to be honest I really liked the feel of the Odyssey. they did not sell the Adams A7. Hoping they have it at Dicks so I can try it out before making a final decision. I thought I would find more of the old models on clearance sale but I might have missed the boat on that. -

Thanks guys for the quick feedback. I plan to make a trip to Golf Galaxy tomorrow for lunch and check out some of the ones mentioned above. I know they sell all brands there. Out of curiosity if I traded my 2 ball Odyssey in, about how much would I expect to get for it ? Its in really good shape. Only about 10 rounds of play on it. A couple small minor dings I got when I forgot to put the headcover back in and it rattled against other clubs in the bag. No dings on the clubface though. -
I get most golf magazines and normally when they do a review they only look at equipment over $100. Has anyone come across a review of putters in the $100 and under range ? Or can anyone recommend a good putter in that range ? Preferably blade style. Right now I am using an Odyssey 2 ball putter I got last year (Street price $100). I feel very confident with it on putts under 6 foot however have no distance control with it on lag putts. Typically either leave it 10 foot short or blow it by 10 feet. The just feels kind of light for the long putts. When I strike it firm it seems sometimes I even bounce the ball if that makes sense. I was much better with my old Fila blade style putter on long lags. So I am looking for a putter to get the best of both worlds (short and long putts). Golf Magazine had good reviews on the Cleveland Classic Blade 4 $70 but that was the only blade they reviewed under $100. Looking for other options to compare it to.

yes, it will be new. Where can you order it with a different length shaft ?
-
I got a free Odessey 2 ball putter last season and its 35" long. Since I am only 5' 4" I always choke down on the putter shaft about 3". Should I cut that amount off ? I often wonder if it will improve my game. I have tried out putters in the store that were 32" and felt much more comfortable to me. Also while I am on the subject of shortening clubs. I am buying a Vokey 50 deg wedge next month. I will definately need it shortened. Do you normally shorten it from the grip end or the club head end ?

Can anyone help me on this one ?

My buddy has a brand new CG12 that he might be willing to sell. Can anyone let me know what the differences are between a CG10, CG12 and CG15 ? I saw Golf Galaxy has the CG10 for $69 and the CG15 for $129. Curious also what a good price to offer him for his slightly used CG12. Think he paid $117 new last season. _________________________________________________ My Clubs Driver- Maxfli Fire Woods-Maxfli Fire Hybrids-Maxfli Fire 4H, 5H, Taylor Made 6H Irons - Maxfli Fire Putter - Odyssey White Hot 2 ball Ball - Srixon AD333 Last 5 rounds: 95, 93, 91, 96, 92

Callaway Practice Balls
erock9174 replied to erock9174's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Golf Galaxy did have them. Packs of 10 "Almost Golf Balls" were $9.99. Also they have the sleeve (not sure how many were in there) on clearance sale. I never did pick them up though. Right now I just need practice with chipping so I figure I can bang a real ball around the yard to try and develop some touch with my new wedges. The box does state the ball flies about 1/3 rd the disance of a normal ball. -

I saw the Calloways at golfgalaxy but didnt remember seeing the "Almost Golf balls" there. I will take another look and maybe get those instead. Thanks for the feedback. -
My coworker purchased the white whiffle balls for practice and said after 2 days they are already crushed and broken. So we thought about sharing a bag of the Calloway foam practice balls (orange in color). 18 for $20. Anyone have any experience with these ? Say you hit a wedge 110yds. How far would these go with a full swing ? I mainly need them to practice chips and full wedge shots.

What are some good clubs for a Lady?
erock9174 replied to chippy's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Nice.......Luckily the set of Maxfli's I have are cobalt gray with yellow writing. The men's set is identical except they are orange instead of yellow. So you never know it's a female set. lol Believe me I took that into consideration. Oh and I love beating my co-worker who just dropped mega bucks on his forged set of Mizuno's. I'll take what works best for me. -
GPS WHAT DO YOU LIKE? Callaway uPro Golf GPS?
erock9174 replied to motsco's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Dan funny you mention that. I had seen that earlier why researching the Golf Buddy Plus. Looks like the Garmin/GolfLogiz GPS-8 has gone to the top of my list. Just too difficult to find good info on the Golf Buddies. And from what I read in the very few reviews I found, their Customer Support is sub-par and that is if you even can get ahold of someone that speaks English. -

I'm a male but at 5 4" I prefer to use women's clubs. Men's cut down clubs are too stiff for me due to my slower swing. Anyway, this past May I bought a complete set of clubs called Maxfli Fire from Dicks. I believe it was $299 on sale at the time. It included a driver, 3w, 5w, 4H, 5H and 6 through sand wedge. I like them alot. Granted I am not a great golfer. Shoot about 88-90 on a good day and they suit me well. I think Maxfli was bought out by Dicks/Slazenger. So they rebaged the same set under the Slazenger name and even took about $30-40 off the set. You can buy them at Golf Galaxy. This isnt the exact set but very similar even includes a pretty pink bag, lol for $249 http://www.golfgalaxy.com/galaxy/pro...ffset=1&s;_id=0 -

Since we are talking GPS units of all flavors I'd like to know people's opinion on the Golf Buddy brand. I see Golfsmith has their Golf Buddy Plus for $199.99 marked down from $349.99. Amazon.com had about 25 reviews mostly positive. No annual fee which is nice. I assume all brands (other than Skycaddie, since they manually map courses) all use the same satellites to calculate distances? -
Any new info or advice people have on the Golf Buddy units ? Looks like Golfsmith has the Golf Buddy Plus unit on sale from $349 down to $199.99. Seems like a decent deal for not having to pay annual fees. All my local courses are on there as well.

First thoughts on my new SkyCaddie SG4

Also Does anybody know of a better price than $179 on the SG4 ? Somebody mentioned Costco in another post but I don't have a membership. -

erock9174 replied to AbsoluteZero's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Anybody have any follow-up thoughts on the SG4 after using it for a while? Any reliability issues or faults with them? Looks like Golfsmith.com still has them for $179.99. Seems like a really good deal being they once sold for over $300. The reason I'd like a GPS unit is many of the courses I play around my area are horrible at marking distances in the fairway. So you never know if you are 180 yds out or 150 yds. -
Started playing the AD333's this season. Really like the ball for the price. I was previously using Nike Juice. Balls seem to spin a bit more on the greens.

I raced Radio Controlled Oval cars for about 10 years before quitting back in 2006. Actually racked up 3 national championships and roughly 10 sponsors including a company called Customworks owned by Nascar driver Tony Stewart. Fun while it lasted but no money involved so I racked up way too much debt. Below is video from my old home track in Akron, OH. Ran tracks everywhere from Blountville TN to Sandhills & Chatham NC.

Loft of hybrid?? Help me choose!
erock9174 replied to verse214's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I did some browsing on my lunch break at Dicks and found out that TaylorMade makes a 28 deg loft hybrid with a flexy shaft. So this is a perfect compromise between the 26 and 30 degrees I was looking at. Golfsmith.com had it marked down from $150 to $79.99 with free shipping so I pulled the trigger. Probably won't get to hit though until next season (got a baby on the way this week) !! -
Loft of hybrid?? Help me choose!
erock9174 replied to verse214's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am having the same problem selecting the right loft of a hybrid. I'm a male but at 5' 4" I use women's clubs since the shafts are perfect length for me (not having to cut them down). Also I prefer a high flex shaft. Anyway, I currently have a Maxfli Fire 4 (21 deg.) and Maxfli 5 (24 deg) hybrid. Hit them both well. The 6 iron included in my iron set is a cross between an iron and a utility club. I can't hit it worth a darn. So my question is I am looking at various Hybrid brands including Nike Sumo's and Taylor Made Draws to replace my current 6 iron. Most ladies hybrids come in 26 deg loft and 30 degree loft. I am worried the 26 degree loft club will be too much like my current 24 deg hybrid. Also worried that the 30 degree hybrid will be too much like my 7 iron. I use the (21 deg) 4 hybrid now for shots roughly 185-190 and the 5 hybrid (24 deg) for shots 170-175. Looking for that perfect 160-165 yd club. Would 26 degree or 30 degree be better ? -

Currently switched to Srixon AD333's away from Nike Juice balls. Dicks had a sale on them. 2 boxes (24) balls total for $24.99. Not a bad deal. I've noticed more backspin on the greens. It's been pretty wet though in OH this year so that could factor in as well. I like them though and plan to buy more for next season.
