So I took a few years off from golf after my collegiate playing days and now that I'm back I'm interested in what the best forged cavity back or muscle back irons out there are. I've seen the titleist AP2s and they look pretty nice but I don't know what else is out there brand wise. I currently play Cleveland TA2s and I love em but down the road I may look to upgrade those bad boys. I'm also new to rifle shafts, my experience with iron shafts in the past was always dynamic gold steel shafts and nothing else. I have a swing speed of around 128mph and I hit the ball very high so I was reading about rifle shafts and realized I don't know anything about them. What would any of you guys suggest as far as shafts for me hitting high and having a fairly high swing speed. I prefer as low torque as possible for my clubs.

What shaft did you choose for driver?

I chose the Fujikura Rombax 7Z08. It has a very low torque, and the weight is good for me, the 8Z08 was a little heavier than I would have liked. The kicker those is its very high kick point and thusly low trajectory. I hit the ball very high and have a fairly high swing speed (128+ on average) and I needed a low piercing ball flight. -
I think if you are a very consistent ball striker then switching to a blade is a plus because you can work the ball better and the feeling of a perfectly struck blade shot is like no other. But there's those consistent strikers that prefer the feel and play of cavity backs. It's simply your choice what you play, it just takes a more consistent swing to play blades so that's why better players tend to be the ones using them.

plain and simple its just better to get lessons than fix your own problems unless you know the golf swing really well and have access to a camera. I had been fighting a big pull hook or push slice for a few weeks now and finally gave in and went to see my swing coach for a tune up. Within 20 mins we fixed the problem and had me hitting a sweet power cut again. My swing was perfectly on plane and the club face was right where it should be at the top but I was getting too quick w/ my hips (hence the push slice) and I was flipping my hands at impact (hence the over corrected pull hook). He gave me some drills to work on to get my chest/arms/hips in sync and now I'm hitting the ball great again. If you can afford it, get a lesson when you are having swing problems. Heck, even get one from time to time when you are hitting fairly well. Having that extra set of eyes to look at your swing can make a world of difference with the smallest adjustments. /end rant

What he does off the course has no affect on what I think of him as a golfer unless he kills someone or does some really really terrible thing. Cheating on his wife is pretty common among the world's most famous athletes. Nothing new.

What do an SUV and a golf ball have in common? Tiger can't drive either of them straight.

Depends on the lie and how I'm hitting that day but more than likely no if I had a 1 stroke lead or something. You saw what happened to Tin Cup. Aside from the cool hole out for 12, he lost the tournament. Woopty do. Not worth it.

Will you guys stop looking up Q-school info and crap like that please? Or at the very least keep the information to yourselves? I don't want to know who wins the show based on the digging around you do to find out ahead of time for yourself. I like to speculate on it and be surprised by the show, not have the show ruined by your detective work.

Just came across this on CNN http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/12/01/woo...ial/index.html

Ya I noticed the grass was in focus too. It was my cell phone camera and I snapped the pic quickly before driving off in the cart.

You bet it did. Most pure shot I've hit w/ that club since I got it like 2 weeks ago.

Driver 7 iron into that hole lol. I also had a good one on 18 today it was 464 had 81 in. The tee mark however was a tad off center on that one. But ya I've seen the tee mark on a club before off center, I meant to say one that was perfectly centered like that. It just blew me away seeing it not only perfectly horizontally lined up but vertically.

So I was playing The Bridges today w/ my buddy Adam and it was incredibly windy all day. We step up to the 10th hole which is a 558 par 5 dead down wind. I've played the last several holes dead into the wind so I'm gonna give it a rip on this hole to make up for it. I poke one right down the neck of the fairway and I end up having 196 in. So I look at my driver after I hit the shot because it felt great and this is what I see on the face of the club. That was so cool seeing the tee in the middle of the face with it stopping right at the sweet spot. Has anyone else ever seen this before? I've seen a ball imprint a lot on the club face from grass or dirt or whatever but I've never seen the tee imprint on the face of a club like that.

There were rumors last week of Tiger having an affair but none of them were confirmed. I wonder if Elin was just pissed at Tiger cuz she's been hearing about all these rumors and he just got fed up with it and said he was going for a drive. Hit the gas too hard cuz he was pissed and then fish tails and hits the hydrant then tree. I don't know how often Tiger actually drives so maybe he just wasn't prepared for the responsiveness of the gas pedal lol.

I'm watching right now and Blake is pissing me off and I just can't believe his reactions to shit. Hes such a lil bitch.

If you know any local teaching pros you should go in for a quick tune up lesson. By seeing your swing on camera and letting the pro make a few tweaks you could fix your swing quickly if it is something as simple as your grip. Tell the guy you don't want any major swing changes and that you are a 2 handicapper who's had a sudden loss of swing. They should be able to get you back on track.

I'm really confused, this was a points system qualifier rather than stroke play?
-
That's what I'm hoping. I figured w/ all the screws it could be any one of them. The club was brand new out of the plastic shipped directly from Taylormade so I assumed everything was on tight and ready to be hit but maybe I was wrong..

I like the way they feel even with the stock shafts. The ball flight is great on the 3 wood and the driver has a nice flight as well but will be flattened out even more when I get my new shafts put in these guys. The only problem is that I only hit 15 balls with my driver and I already hear a minor rattle in the head. It is an R9 so I'm wondering if when I change the shaft and screw everything in it will fix the problem of something being loose, but if its some glue in the head that came loose then I will have to send the club back to Taylormade or deal w/ the sound. Anyone have experience w/ a rattle in their driver head (specifically the R9)? I had a friend who had a rattle in his Callaway Great Big Bertha back in the day but that's it.

It really depends on the circumstances for what kind of shot you play. My typical ball flight is high with a lot of spin so my wedge game will hit and spin back a tad or just drop and stop immediately. But, I do play a set of punch shots w/ my gap wedge, pw, 9i, 8i, and even 7i where I put the ball back in my stance, choke up an inch or 2 and take a half swing. Depending on the club the shot will go 80-125 yards will hit short of the flag take a hop or 2 and then stop. If the flag is in the front of the green or there is a hazard/bunker/rough to carry to get to the flag you won't want to play a 'run up' shot. You will want to hit the shot to stop where it lands. If the flag is in the back of the green, you don't want to have to land it past the hole to spin it back to the flag because you might land in the rough behind the green and not spin back. So for that situation a run up shot is more likely.

They will if a tie occurs. It's in the tournament rules for the US Open to play an 18 hole playoff in the event of a tie. Just like the British Open is always a 4 hole playoff.

Boobs have a way of doing that to you, even a man's boobs lol.

They could always go back and film their commentary later to fit their editing. They always cut away to them anyways and have them doing voice-overs so its not hard for them to edit it and make it seem as if its happening real time.

I'm right handed but I play lefty. I consider myself a lefty if anyone asks because I hit from that side of the ball It's nice having your stronger arm leading the swing.

Although I do agree our short games are impeccable, Tiger will not be out of the #1 spot by this time next year. He would have to have such a completely terrible year (missed cuts, bottom finishes, etc.) along with Phil winning a bunch of tourneys to pass Tiger's lead within one year. All Phil can hope to do is have a good year and claw away at Tiger's world ranking lead. There is no way he will pass him in one year.
