  1. A well-poured Guinness (there is a difference), Smithwicks, Becks & Becks Dark, and Sam Adams are my go to brews...
  2. Back from my trip, and the reviews were right. My son and I liked both courses, but they were quite different. Lost Key certainly held up to it's nickname of "Lost Ball" (which I heard multiple times from people down there). It was quite easy to lose them, and I'm not just talking about balls sprayed way off line...with never playing the course before, it was tough at times to know where to hit, and how much room you had - I had a couple of tee shots lost because I hit them too far into a dogleg, or 10 yards over the green. Still, a fun day and a great value. Cotton Creek @ Craft Farms was more my style, though - more open, though still tough with plenty of sand and water. Definately on of my favorite courses I've played. Weather was perfect (80), and it was a great time with my son. I'll be back for sure.
  3. I miss my 2005 Mazda RX-8...put 85,000 fun miles on it before I traded it in...great drivers car - not the fastest thing on the road for sure, but it was quick, and handling was amazing.
  4. Just booked my tee times for me and my son Thanksgiving week in Gulf Shores - wife and daughter will be hitting the spas, we'll be playing Lost Key and then Cotton Creek the next day. Anyone here played these courses? They looked great online, and the rates were good for this time of year. This will be our first time to Gulf Shores - really looking forward to it. Thanks!

    Golf Mat

I went to my local range last year (which happens to be at a large golf store) and checked with the managers (friends of mine), knowing that they replace their mats every other year (but not all at once) and I asked what they did with the old ones...they said they sell the old ones for $50. They only had one available, but it had a small cut in it on one side. I asked how much for this one with the small cut in it, and they gave it to me for $25. It's a regular, heavy, full-size range mat, and the cut in it has never been a problem. I don't actually use it in the winter, but all spring/summer/fall it lives in my backyard in front of my net. While I certainly prefer hitting off grass, this lets me and my son practice whenever we want at home without tearing up the grass and having to move the net all over.
  6. One of the best shows on TV currently, I think - although, it can be tough to jump in midway thru - I've been watching since season one, and have told several friends to watch and get the same response - "I have no idea what's going on and what has gone on"...probably like trying to jump into the Sopranos with no idea who anyone was or what the story is...most people aren't willing to try and figure it out. Going back thru the early season DVD's would be the best thing.
  7. Nothing worse than losing a ball in the middle of the fairway that's covered with leaves...happened to me last week...it sucks to lose one in the leaves in the rough, but right in the middle of the fairway is just cruel...
  8. I have the Exotics XLD 10.5 driver and XLD 5 wood and like them a lot...obviously equipment comes down to personal choice and swing type, but I've always been impressed by Tour Edge quality, design/engineering, and performance. I would at the very least recommend adding them to the list of clubs to try out for anyone who is looking.
  9. Just got home a few hours ago from the first round @ Dubsdread...perfect weather, good crowds. Still a huge gallery for Tiger, Dustin had a pretty big one as well - nice course to watch a live event on - this was my second Thursday round (went last year), and although I don't get to experience the weekend drama, I'll take the close access that Thursday provides anytime. (Oh, and the VIP hook-up is nice, too). Amazing how tough of a time the field had hitting some of the fairways (especially 18).
  10. I just bought a 19 degree Raylor and like it a lot - no problems hitting it off a fairway (even off a range mat was fine) - I'm getting 15 yards more distance than the hybrid I replaced. Haven't had a ton of playing time with it, but like it a lot so far. I hit a lot of other hybrids before I bought this one, and I knew I was taking this one home within 10 minutes...
  11. Most of my bag is filled with Tour Edge clubs - I have the Exotics XLD driver and 5 wood, and the irons are all bazookas. I am upgrading my irons to Callaway X-20 tours (found a great set used, & the price was right), but I can say I haven't had any complaints. I did demo the exotics irons, and it was a bit of a toss-up at the end of the day for me, but I've leaned toward the Callaways for now. Their factory is not far from me (I've been thru it), and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their stuff to anyone. They are a lesser known name because they choose not to sponsor PGA pros, but it's not uncommon to see their fairway woods popping up in pro bags.
  12. Hmmm...comforters...I think I can find a few of those in the basement - good idea!
  13. I have a Rife 2-Bar blade and like it a lot...soft feel, smooth roll...inspires putting confidence for me...
  14. Hi, my name is Chris - located west of Chicago - been playing since I was a kid (I'm 40 now), but just picked it back up seriously about 4 years ago. My son who is 14 is as addicted as I am. Of course, living in the midwest, my season is pretty much done (although we played all thru November with temps in the low 40s at times). Now just working on moving my outdoor net setup inside, and waiting for spring to roll around...looking forward to getting some good info here (been dropping in here for a few years, finally got around to joining). Thanks!
  15. I'm in the process of moving my outdoor net setup into my garage for the winter (basement is too low). Not the best net in the world, full-sized real range mat, and a 2-car garage. This means I'm going to have to set this up in a temporary fashion when I want to hit (with the cars out). Thinking of hanging a few old blankets behind the net or over the back of the net make sure nothing gets wild...anything else I should be concerned with? Only planning to use irons.
