My first round was 32 years ago, when I was 42. Having grown up in the Elizabeth Port in NJ, golf was something that never entered my life. We lived in a flat over a bar across from the Singer Manufacturing Company. At the ripe old age of 42 I put away the tools and became a manager, and the company president asked me if I played golf. I chuckled and said no, and then he said if you ever want to move up in this company you'll learn to play. The rest is history, at 74 I'm still working on my swing even though I'm long retired.

The only golf book that has consistently been on my bedside table is Harvey Penicks Little Red Book.

7 wood and 7 iron would be my choice.
-
If you read my post #13 I specifically mentioned potential.

Winners get more clicks. Then you've been misinterpreting what I've been saying, or I presented it poorly. If it's the latter, my apologies. With his social media presence and recent foray into the long drive championship I disagree, but we shall see what we see.

Over the next few years we'll see how it pans out. I'd wager on Bryson being "the guy" for the next 5 years or so.
-
Choosing tee and hole locations advantageous to BAD is how I expect they'll set the course up. Why so upset about another person's opinion? In today's environment, social media rules and no male golfer rules social media for golf more than DeChambeau. He's everyone's foil, the guy we often love to hate. But no other currently playing pro brings in casual fans like Mr. Funny Hat. In any case, it should be a fun match to watch.

Just one man's opinion.
-
I didn't say nor imply that. However the fact that Bryson moves the needle more than Brooks can't be denied.
-
Because Bryson is the media star du jour with the potential of bringing additional millions in revenue to the PGA tour.
-
As a long time advocate of 12 holes becoming the standard I applaud that decision. You just have to know that the course will be set up for Bryson.

Threads like this make me happy that I'm a walker.

Thanks for the thoughtful input. I've decided to stand pat and continue with what I've been using. Experiments with shorter shafted lower lofted hybrids haven't yielded the consistency gains I had hoped for.

Our game is difficult enough without having the ruling bodies try to satisfy the butt hurt so called "purists. Play, enjoy, play again. And invite a non golfing friend! Rediculous arbitrary rules hurt the game.
-
And the course design itself didn't require special cutting heights. It was in itself penal enough. Jesus H., why can't folks just enjoy what's in front of them without the endless, boring, nonsensical and self indulgent criticizem of a great course?
-
No rough? We were obviously looking at different courses. The valleys, creeks, bunkers long penal grass and Juniper bushes provided more than enough trouble from my pov. Pretty difficult to set up a course to favor one team vs another IMHO. These guys play a lot of the same events thru out the year, and on some pretty difficult tracks.

Not concerned about it at all, home teams have a built in advantage in virtually every team sport.
-
Meh, woulda coulda shoulda. It's all conjecture. The USA won, I'm a happy camper.
-
Why so? He's a man's man, full of testosterone and going balls out. Best golf strategy, probably not. But I love his f***itall and go for it attitude after wavering on him for awhile. He's going to draw a lot of new fans

Thanks, no salt or whiskey required unless it's tequila and accompanied with a wedge of lime. I've never been a big hitter, and length isn't the issue. Hitting roughly the same distances now as I was 20 years ago, however the contact is light years better. Funny game we play.

Bis Seve fan? Yeah, who was it that doubted the rout? Team USA is trouncing the Euros rather convincingly. I absolutely love the noise, rowdy behavior, player/fan interaction and everything else about this event. Party on, Garth. Mass begins again at Augusta for the purists.
-
The euro fans will travel no matter where it is.

At 74, I'm more consistent with ball striking then I was 20 years ago. Same clubs since 2012 (except the putter), I wish I knew why.

Lighten up. This isn't a golf tournament it's a team event not unlike any other. If the cheering and rowdy behavior bothers you, turn it off and wait for the Masters. Definitely not for the country club "Get off my lawn" crowd!
