  1. Ok, the young guy that I mentioned scores in the low 80s the two times I played with him. Basically he beat me both times by about 10 strokes. He played vasity soccer in high school and also very good in basketball. I am not sure how much time he put into practicing but he plays one or two rounds a week when he was in college at UC San Diego. Is hand-eye coordination the same as balance? Or they are related but not the same thing. Can you have one without the other. I watch the golf channel occasionally and they talk about a having balance will help you with contact. I have been practicing standing on one leg while holding the other leg and your whole body in the horizontal position to improvie balance.
  2. I know most athletes are born with good hand-eye coordination. I have met one young guy who just picks up golf for a year and he was a single digit golfer. He is also excellent in every sport he plays. Most of us are not like that. What are some tips for improving my hand-eye coordination? Thanks,
  3. Just ordered it new on Amazon for $3.99, + $3.99 shipping. This will be the tenth golf book in my library. LOL
  4. Hi, My handicap is about 18. Currently I am using Mizuno MX-20 irons. They are very forgiving. I have been playing with them for 7 years now. They are still good but suddenly I have the itch to buy some clubs b/c my wife is giving me $500 (out of her bonus) for my birthday to buy clubs. My current clubs are great but they don't give me much feedback on slight mishits. I am thinking that with blades I have to work on my swing mechanics to hit near the center and that will make me a better golfer. What do you think about the logic? Initially I will practice with the MP-60 but will play with my MX-20 and hope to move to the MP-60 eventually. I have never play with blades before. I plan to buy a set of MP-60 on ebay and if I don't like it I can always sell it back. I went to Rogers Dunn and They were around $450. I can get them on ebay for about $250. Thanks,
  5. I have the izzo and love it. It gives you distance to the front, center and back of the greens. Nothing else. It is as accurate as the more expensive units. Good thing is that you pay only $10 to subscribe to unlimited courses for a whole year. At the end of the year, you can keep 10 courses on the unit and use them forever without paying a single dime.
  6. Hi, I might be able to play Saturday morning if I don't have to go to the birthday party of a distance relative. My wife wants to go but I am trying to convince her not to go. I will know by Thursday and will let you know. If you already have a foursome then please let me know. I can use golfnow.com to book something if we go out togetther. Thanks Here is the link to golfnow.com, I have an account if we need to book, you can check out the courses to see which one you would like to play. http://www.golfnow.com/sandiego/tee-...0&TDT;=7/3/2010
  7. I played on Saturday. I was anxious to test out whether weight shift was my problem. During the swing, I was trying to put more weight on the inner part of the right foot by turning the right foot to the 11:30 clock position and tilting my right knee toward the left knee. At the top of my backswing, there was a lot of tension on my right knee and leg and my backswing was some what shorter. My weight tranfer was good (with a few times I had to walk forward after finishing the swing) I hit the ball much better and zero fat shot. Although I hit the ball thin three or four times but didn't get penalize too much because it was with the 6 and 7 irons and that the thin shots had about the same distance. I shot 9 over in the front and 8 over in the back for a 88. This was my first time breaking 90 in more than a year. Like all of us, I have the next thing to work on which is my tempo. When I got quick, basically starting the downswing before finishing the backswing, I tend to pull the ball way left. This problem cost my 5 or 6 strokes during the round.
  8. Thanks everyone for the tips. Today I went to the range and I stopped at the top of the swing and it turned out that most of my weight is on the outside of the right foot. Basically there was almost no pressure on the inside part of the right foot. Like Harmonious thought, I didn't shift my weight to the left side properly with the weight outside of my right foot. I attempted to fix the problem by turning my right foot a little bit more the left and turning my right knee toward the left knee more. By doing this, I felt most of the pressure is on the inside part of the right foot. During the downswing, my weight transfer was much better and I hit the balls really well. Amazingly, I had the same problem 4 years ago and a pro helped me and told me the above fixes but apparently I have forgotten about the lesson. I will play this Saturday. Hopefully I will hit my irons better.
  9. I putt on my carpet all the time. I just know that my 10 feet putts go 7 feet on my carpet. Like most other have said, I just work on the line and stroke mechanics.
  10. Currently I am driving the ball beautifully getting around 240-260 yards out in the fairways and usually I have around 100-130 yards to the greens on most par 4s. The most frustrating thing is that I will chunk half of these relatively easy shots to the greens hitting two to three inches behind the ball. I have another problem that might be related is that my left wrist breaks down at contact and thus adding loft. As a result I hit the ball sky high and not getting much distance. However, I have had this problem since I started playing. I have hit behind the ball before ocasionally but never 50% of the shots like now. What are some the drills I can do to fix this? My distance PW 100 9 112 8 125 7 140 6 150 5 160 4 170 3 180 3W 210 Driver 250 I shoot around 90-95 on an average course. One weird thing is that my friends' drive distance are about the same as mine but they are about 1.5 clubs longer than me on the short irons. Many thanks,
  11. thank you everyone, I will try the impact bag and the drill in the video tomorrow. I will make my own impact bag for now.
  12. This is my major problem. As a result I hit the balls very high and short distances. I also have the tendency to hit behind the ball. One guy I talked to said just don't do it. It sounds easy but I have grooved this bad habit for 8 years now and it is hard to get rid of. What drills or gadget do you suggest I can use? Here are my distances: PW: 100 9: 112 8: 125 7: 140 6: 150 5: 160 4: 170 3: 180 3W: 210 D: 235 Thanks,
  13. I love kayak fishing for Bass in San Diego bays and 1-2 miles to the shores. I think kayak fishing allows you to exercise, and minimize damage to the environment. I release most of the fish I catch. I take one home for the wife sometimes when the fish is gut hooked or might not survive if I release it.
  14. I need to do this so I can start a thread. I am a Mechanical Engineer designing high performance fluid seals for Aerospace, Oil & Gas and Analytical Industries.
  15. For bump and run, I use the putting stroke but reduce the backswing distance to half that of putting. For example, my backswing distance for a 40 foot putt is about 18 inches. Then the backswign distance for a 40 foot bump and run is 9 inches. I use the 7 iron most of the time but might use 8 or 9 iron if the green is fast. I think bump and run is much less error prone than chipping.
