Aloha from Oahu! Great to hear you've decided to head this way for your honeymoon. It's great fun and a great place to play golf. I live on Oahu, very touristy and lot's of people, but there are some great courses and resorts, Turtle Bay and Ko' Olina of course are the two choices I would suggest. There are some great courses around KoOlina that you can play if you get bored with that one and both the Fazio and Palmer course at Turtle bay are a blast, it's quite up there on the north shore in the summer and you'll be able to relax. This is the island with pearl harbor, hanauma bay, and my town waikiki. Plantation Kapalua, nough said. (PS if you're ever there in the winter you play the course, any of them, and there'll be whales breaching in the background, they come to give birth, or maybe to breed??? one of the two in the warm hawaii waters. Great resort too, it's getting a little busier on Maui every year but a lot of fun none the less. Lot's to do all over the island, but I would imagine staying in your room is tops on that list. On the big island (my personal fav) I suggest http://www.maunakearesort.com/ Mauna Kea. The course weaves through lava fields and the resort is crazy nice. it's a little less tropical and more lava and beach at this resort but a lot less people than the other two islands previously mentioned. This would be my choice on the big island aka Hawaii aka the one with the lava. Although I've never been to Lanai I hear it's crazy nice. I'm going in January for a little jaunt while we check out the mercedez on maui, just a short little ferry ride to lanai. I hear the four seasons at manele bay is the place to stay and play golf. It's a smaller island and probably the best secluded honeymoon spot. Pricey though. PS Bill Gates rented out the whole island for his honeymoon so you got something to work towards. It's owned by some billionaire, the hp guy or ibm or something like that. Well 98% of it at least. Kauai is layed back Tropical Rain forest hawaii, you should be safe on the rain factor in the summer though. They have the princeville on the north shore which has a few courses and is really nice and the town of Poipu which has a few courses adjoining some of the big name resort hotels, I think tiger is playing there in two weeks, hyatt, or something like that? Hope this helps, I'm actually getting married out here on June 9th, 2007, gotta figure out how to get 150 +/-25 friends and family to hawaii, doesn't that sound like fun, so what's helping out two more :)

Cameron Diaz, you know, if Justin Timberlake would allow it, heck he can come along. She looked like she could have an ok swing from her swinging in Something about Mary and I here Justin likes to golf so I'm guessing she got better. Not sure if this lady we choose must be on the tour but I thought I would venture off onto a new path.

I gotta get a new job! I live in a climate where I can play year round and only end up playing 20-30 times a year.

I never knew Fantasy golf existed. I would be interested if thesandtrap got one going. I'll have to check it out over at ESPN just to see how it'd work. Is it like you have a team of players every week or do you have one player each week per tournament?

I've noticed that a lot of the courses that have, or want to have PGA tour events held at them, have 4 or 5 tee areas. Forward, Resort, Mens, Championship, Tour. (Could be off on the names but it's something like that). now a days, with courses getting longer and longer, courses need to be long to make tour stops competative. As for the different pars, not sure what it's all about, I've seen some of the courses here in hawaii have that, Must be some type of length thing with a par 5 mens ending up a par 4 ladies hole.

I'd try the old bengay in the jockey shorts routine, that always got people in line . Quick question though. Did it work? Did he fix his slice?

I feel like I'm one of the only lonely out there that doesn't use one of these. I bought two knock-off rescue clubs thinking it was going to save my long fairway shots and wasn't able to hit them worth a darn. It's more of a feel thing for me, they just feel weird off the fairway. Then I tried one of them nike slingshot thingys and wasn't able to hit that either. Off the tee they're great but off the short stuff I just can't do it. I know I'm definitely in the minority here. Everyone else who has bought or tried one that I know loves the feel of them. They say they feel more confident in every situation. Wish I was that way. I'm just working on getting my 3 and 5 woods to feel comfortable.

Sandwich stealing animals... Out here in Hawaii we have the lovely Mongoose that don't really do anything except look like pointy rats. But they do know where to hang out on a golf course. I usually bring a little snack on the front nine, and no animals bother it if I leave it in the cart. then at the turn I grab a hot dog and beer and head to the tenth hole. Sure as the sky is blue, everytime, if you make it to the 10th green with even a corner of that dog left and leave it in your cart as you go to the green, mongoose, multiple will jump right up and snag your food. Everytime. The course is koolau in hawaii so watch out if you play there. As for hitting the wildlife. I played with a buddy who hit his drive damn near sideways off the tee, bounced it off the rang guys car and smacked a peacock, right in the side. Luckily the bumper of the car absorbed a lot of the force, plus a ball traveling sideways can't have been hit that forceful, and the bird lived to strut another day.

Great story, very inspirational. I was wondering if Golf Digest had a link to that "in the slot" article online. I didn't have any luck with Googling it. Also, in those four years how often did you play during the week? Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, there's probably a lot more people on Oahu since you've been here. I live in town and all it is is people people people. But there are some great courses out here so who am I to complain.

I was playing the Hawaii Country Club and there is a dog leg right par four goofy hole that goes up a hill, around a corner and down a hill. You need to sky the ball over a bunch of trees to the right or put the ball to the 150 marker between two groups of trees. I decided to take out the driver and go for the green. I hit a great fade up, over, and around the trees and put the ball 20-30 yards from the green. That's where the trouble is. The green is a gently sloping green back towards the fairway with a huge slope about 10 yards off the front of the green. Where was the pin? Front half right in the middle of the slope. Rediculous. I put the ball about 3 feet above the hole, and it proceeded to roll down the slope to the front fringe. I then had about 10 feet for a birdie putt. Missed it, about a foot past the hole, then it rolled back down the hill. Next putt went about the same place. Then the next stopped about an inch short (no foolin') and rolled back down. I finally made the putt getting off the green with an 8!

I love to walk and carry when I can but the island courses that I play are sometimes impossible to do so. Hills and hills and hills. I'd have to get out every other day to keep in condition. Come to think of it. Why don't I do just that?

I would have to say Tiger Woods. He's the most exciting to watch right now. If he's not in a tournament chances are I won't be watching.

I'm a grounder as well. I've tried teeing the ball up higher with my driver and hovering but I can't really get that to feel comfortable.

Most Expensive Club In Your Bag?
evossman replied to st8fan19's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I spent $100 on a used R510 and it was a great move up from the old steely i have before this one. Although I'm not sure I get much more distance from it even with the oversized and the graphite shaft. Looking to upgrade to a hibore pretty soon but have been reading some gotta ge the shaft fitted reviews. There goes buying it off ebay.
