  1. 98%. Sounds like you did some serious research on the subject. You must fit right in at the country club.
  2. Last year my 8 yr. old started with a girls golf league that is in part run by USGA & LPGA called Girls Golf. They have girls ages 6-18. I was really impressed. They start with a free clinic in which the girls are broken down into groups & taught basics of chipping & putting. Then they had a weekly clinic where they showed grip, stance & hitting balls. After this they started playing a few holes @ chip & putt course. When the summer started they had weekly 9-hole league @ par 3 course. They alternated formats & parents played along in scrambles a few times. They really stressed things like introducing yourself to your playing partners, marking the ball & other rules of golf. It is nice because this place has mini golf, range, chip & putt & par 3 course. You paid $15 to join & $6 each week you could show up for the league. They had a few outings at reg. golf courses where they either set up kids tees or scramble with an adult. My daughter loved it but was bummed the glow golf was cancelled due to weather. Every Thursday she was excited about going to play in her league. My wife said she seemed like me on Sunday. Best part is my 6 yr old wants to start this year. I hope they stay with it because someday I can get family membership at loacal club. What other sport can you play with your dad when they get old.
  3. Shot 99. Chipping & putting starting to come around but spent a lot of time in the sand.
  4. Wondering if a should buy new irons. I have a set of king cobra II that must be 10 yrs. old. Golf Digest released their obsolete club list this month & they have clubs that aren't nearly as old as mine on that list. Considering the mag makes quite a bit of money off advertising for clubs I wonder if my clubs are actually obsolete. I always figure that if I put a good swing on the ball I get good results. Just looking for some opinions. Thanks in advance. Chuck
  5. I've heard Algarve has some beautiful courses. When my kids are older I want to take them to see where their families came from. Hopefully I can sneak a couple rounds in.
  6. I have the same problem. I will score low 90's, high 80's while hitting 6-10 out of the woods. I tried hiiting 3 wood off the tee & even stopped carrying woods in the bag for 2 years. Nothing worked. Luckily I have gotten real good at punching out with 5 iron or 2 hybrid but that doesn't always help when you have no shot. I started hitting the woods again a few years ago. My main problem is that when hitting approach shot I take a nice swing knowing 8 iron is 150+/- and so forth. When I get on the tee my first few drives are decent but as the round goes on I tend to take the club back more & more looking for more distance. It's the one thing I can't stop doing. Best advice I ever got was to find a course without trees.
  7. Played 9 at Disney Oak Trail on Saturday. Hadn't played since Nov. & wasn't expecting to get out while on family vacation. Happy that I played alone because the rust was showing. Didn't keep score but lost 4 balls. Just felt good getting out. Took 1:40 to play & that included hitting extra shots & extra putting on greens. Starter told me I could play another 9 for free but I had to make it back to go to airport.
  8. Thanks man
  9. My Sunday foursome consists of 2 low handicappers, me & a guy eho had hard time breaking a 100. We always have a great time. I think slow play is the one thing that all golfers dislike. Also, beginners who start golfing on a tough, long courses. I started on a par 3 course, moved on to playing shorter courses & now am comfortable on any course. How about the guys who give you tips the whole round while shooting much worse than you. Work on your own game.
  10. Hey, my name is Chuck & I'm ready for spring to arrive. Lurked around the site for a few weeks & it seems like a good mix of info & humor. Look forward to this!
  11. Enjoyed our trip but it was 10 years ago so I'm sure a lot has changed. Golf course was great & having caddy was nice. Climbing falls at Ochos Rios was also cool. Being our honeymoon we spent a lot of time in our room. Only drawbacks were 2 hr bus ride from airport to resort w/o ac & resort seems to get smaller as the week goes on. Went to Dominican Rep. for 10 yr anniv. & enjoyed it more. Golf was more expensive but trip being only 4 days made us want more. Just sitting around beach or pool drinking some cocktails sounds good to me. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
  12. Teeing off on 1st hole with over 10 guys watching I hit a huge banana ball that clears road & hits maintenance building behind 18th green. It makes a huge ringing sound that everyone can hear. Being quick on my feet I say that I couldn't believe the guy on 18 hit the building pretending it wasn't me. As we drive out to the ball I tell my friend it was me that hit the building but didn't want to admit it in front of all those guys. e still laugh about it to this day. Luckily I don't get nervous in front of group of people any more.
  13. 1. Focus on each shot. 2. Forget bad holes/ shots. Only lead to more. 3. Lower Handicap. 4. Break 90 more often 5. Break 85 at home course. 6. Enjoy golf every Sunday morning with guys. 7. Play more golf (not gonna happen)
  14. Own an excavation business. Work slows down in the winter & still can't golf.
  15. Went to Sandals Ochos Rios in Jamaica on my hneymoon 10 yrs. ago. Having a caddy was great. The caddy seemed happy with the $10 US I tipped him. The caddy for the guy I got paired up with was complaining that he was getting $10 canadian. Besides golf, check out the falls at Ochos Rios. They are pretty cool.
