Ignorant - You got me. I woke up today and said - "hey, what story can I make up to impress a bunch of golfing strangers on a random web site. This was the best I could come up, I'll try harder next week. I have golfed about ten 9-hole rounds so yeah, I suck at hitting the distance required and am a poor chipper. Glad that made you laugh so hard. The stadium lights aim out on the range but sort of shadows where we tee off. I wasn't alone, so I guess it was a bunch of fags having one wet dream? PS: Please come to my barbecue this weekend because you are just the guy I targeted to be my friend . PPS - sorry I shared what was a pretty exciting moment in my short golfing history

saevel25 - I just started golf here when I moved to CO last fall. I should have thought about elevation - but I am still new to high elevation and golf so I guess it never really crossed my mind. Maybe that accounts for the confusion - never hit outside of the springs. I think we are 6300-6400 here in town. Whether because of luck, better than average contact, or the club - the yardage gain was real, and the club felt real good at contact. This was never a bragging post about yardage for what it is worth...

I can't argue your thinking at all - All four of us were at the same opinion that it was very exceptional, but agreed on the distance. All I can only say that before our round at warmup it was more like 160-175 with my 6i. and my HC is so high because I approach and chip so poorly. I only hit it once, because I am just very nervous about others' stuff, who knows maybe the next shot would've been 50 and far right?

My friend and I caught up to 2 fellas the other night and we decided to pair up for the last 4 holes. Really nice guys who make it more fun to play with strangers, not the opposite. As we're walking the course exit which crosses the back of the driving range, Golfer 1 proceeds to ask me to hit his driver, then irons. I think he had W/S FG51 or FG57 but it was dark and I didn't look too hard. Anyways I knocked his 12* TourEdge Exotics over the trees backing the range, which made me giddy, but the real surprise was when he handed me the 6i blade. I was really nervous because I was convinced I'd miss hit and look like the golf-tard that I am, but I made great contact and my jaw must have hit the ground when I saw it fly out to the 225-250 marker before touching down. I know I am not even close to the consistency that players clubs require, but if that is a glimpse into the future, I am definitely looking forward to it.

Playing tomorrow and joked with my friend I was going to tee off with my 6 iron.... I may actually follow through with that as it is my most comfortable club in the bag. Thanks for input guys, I feel better.

I am 33, and hit my first golf ball in AUG 2009. I have about 8 rounds of 9 under my belt, but I was wondering if you guys think I am starting out as average, or below/above average. I kind of think I am doing ok, but I don't have any newbie friends to compare with. I don't worry about scores vs my friends, but would be interested where I stand amongst folks in my experience category. Do I have any potential? Scenario - Buddy and I went to the driving range and hit balls (split bucket of 80) about 5 times before he picked up the tab for my first nine which I was reluctant to accept for fear of humiliation. I was using some hand me down clubs that turned out to be Mens big bertha knockoffs cut down an inch, and sharing his driver and putter. I Played a standard course front 9 rated for a Par of 36, and scored the 58 as title suggests. Since then on the same 9 I have also hit 53,55,57, 49*(incomplete round, was playing good bogey golf until dark, then I wrote in 6/6/6/ on the final 3 holes - all par 4's for a "what if" scenario). A breakdown of my game is that" 1. I suck and driving - I hit 2-3 slices which by then I am aiming far left for compensation when I hit a good one that goes left. Average 1-2 FW per 9 would be a good day. 2. I hit Irons decent, when I get it right, but do tend to skull it which leads me to usually getting on at par with 2-3 putts remaining. 3. Short game is atrocious. I have written a post about this on here elsewhere, but I will say that Irons and wedges are my first objective when I get into lessons this year and practice time. 4. Putting is solid. Lots of 2 putts with an occasional 1 or 3. Power is still something to be honed in but i read greens like a champ. Not to be funny but I think a lot of time playing XBOX Tiger Woods has made me understand the concept better. No lessons yet, wife bought me 2 for my birthday which I will be cashing in this month. As I said, if he asks I will ask for irons and wedge advice. if he dictates the lesson plan elsewhere after our introductions I am cool with that too. There you have it, not asking if high 50's are good scores - I am asking if that's good for a guy still trying to get the right grip like me? What kind of scores did some of you post first couple times out?

Still laughing so hard at the first posts here. I have long since given up on worrying about what others do in their private life... celebs or not. Honestly I could care less how many chicks Tiger bangs in between rounds, who takes steroids, who shot themselves at the club, or whatever other drama is headlining on ESPN radio. Great post Juan, and thanks for the first real laugh all day.

Me thinks this conversation is better to be had amongst friends, you'll probably find the tone of answers to be less argumentative. Sure you were wrong and learned from it, but my guess is this thread did zero to get you to the conclusion you sought. I sure hope I don't get punched in the face like this when I seek help and opinions in the future. And for those who will be quick to defend your opinions, I know you are highly skilled and knowledgeable when it comes to this game; much much more than I, but really I think that the tone of responses to this point have been very confrontational. Have a great weekend.

pitch and chips: no loft help please
USA 79S replied to USA 79S's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Thanks guys, will research the hinge and hold. Seems to be the majority ruling. As for specifics iacas - sadly I don't know what I should be doing in order to know what I am doing wrong. I have lessons planned for mid march, my plan of attack is irons/wedges then driver. Then we'll see where it leads. I'll tee off with a 6 iron every hole if need be. I am not too bad at putting, read greens real well just need to learn my distance-power ratio. -
Hi all- every time I try to chip or pitch from less than 50 yards or so I tend to line drive the ball, usually across the green or into the bunker lip(from sand) or something like that. The ball rarely rises above 3 feet. Often after skipping across the green I walk over and then I am so paranoid about hitting another streaker that I just duff it a few feet, or worse hit right back to the original spot. What do I need to do to get the ball to rise and fall with a half swing or less. Usually my 3/4 to full swings are not bad (considering my level of exp). Any ideas, links, etc would be appreciated. I leave a lot of approaches 45 yds or less and really feel that if I can get on the green from here I can often 2 putt to get closer to bogey golf. Right now I am not even putting until bogey or double bogey and score a lot of 7's and 8's.

My Player Cards - Use for Yourself or Critique
USA 79S replied to Jon K's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Pretty cool idea, do you have them hole punched and hang on the bag or just stick in the pocket? Also I am super new to golf and curious if these notes are for YOUR golf style or the proper approach for all golfers assuming their technique is otherwise correct? Thanks for sharing. -
I think he did well. Obviously there was some expected discomfort, but all in all I hope he met his goal in order to start to prepare for golf again. I never needed or wanted any apologies, I just hope to one day see Tiger back in the game.
-
EXACTLY! I hope he announces a plan, and keeps the BS questions at rest.

Was that John Daly? I thought it was Ron "Tater Salad" White from Blue Collar Comedy Tour. But really, guy smoking and drinking alone in a chair, gee there's some must see t.v.
-
Thanks joe, I found the pgatour player bio's, not much there though. I see the Champions tour is coming to Denver, might try and make it out there.
-
nah, I am asking where you all picked up something more than leaderboard stats to start to form an idea of who these guys are on and off the course, sorry I was probably too vague in my post.

Bright Orange pants/shorts?
USA 79S replied to C-Rope1's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
go to google and search "Nike clemson apparel". Of course you can substitute brand names for more options, good luck! http://www.google.com/search?q=nike+...x=&startPage;=1 -
Pretty new to golf, and finding it hard to establish what players to like and dislike. Not a whole lot of personality to sway my decisions, which leaves me feeling like the new guy on the bandwagon because the best players take all the commentary. So if I say I am a Steve Stricker or Dustin Johnson fan it's probably because they've taken 90% of the media coverage I might have caught during the last 3 weeks. Have to admit I love how tiger lays all that emotion out on the course, which to me means he really loves the game, and there's nothing better than seeing the triple arm pump oafter a 20 ft birdie putt.

don't the tourney judges have provisions for this sort of behavior, i.e, if you shoot better than -5 or something like that it's probably cheating. I'd be pissed if some chump sandbagged me for a win, not that I'll be winning any time soon, but still.
-
Try to hit the range with a partner, competing for accuracy of drives and proximity to yardage markers with irons. Adding a competetive element may expose your on course tendencies and give you something to work on. Just a thought, good luck with the new sticks.

Did a search on caddytek and didn't see any posts about these. Anyone own or have used one of these? Please give some feedback if so. http://www.tgw.com/customer/search2....itmfr=Caddytek

I don't want to get fitted until I have lessons and a repeatable swing. Another thing that bothers me is that I swung my driver at 89-92 mph which was borderline Reg and stiff flex. I know a new driver is probably coming this year, but until I am comfy with a swing and bring up my speed into the mid-high 90's I just don't see the benefit. I sure do want something new though.

2 DAYS til the Daytona 500!!!!!!!!!!!! Been a Tony Stewart fan since 2000-2001. Been to Bristol and Texas but now that I live in Colorado it looks like Vegas, Phoenix, and Kansas are my best shots at seeing some paint trading. Stil have family in Dallas so I guess that's possible too. Gotta support my boy Ryan Newman in the 39 Army car - support your Soldiers. And a quick thumbs up for Joey Logano, future star.
