Substituting a Hybrid for a 3 Wood
kafka01 replied to shortgame85's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
At the moment beside my driver the lowest lofted club is a 2h from Callaway (i lost my 3wood in a little wager). I rarely used my 3 wood though - in 90 % of the cases when i wanted to reach a Par 5 in two and the other cases if i ****ed up my drive and had to hit it from the ladies tee :). The par 3´s i played just werent longer than 220 yards to necesserily hit a 3 wood. Now i will get a new 3 wood (actually 2 wood i think) with a 13 degree loft since most of the time its either of the tee with a little bit more control than my driver or from the fairway (on my current course i only can play it from 1 or if the ball lie is really good from 2 spots on par 5´s to go for the green in 2) where i just want to max out distance. I decided on the 13 degree loft instead 15 just for the simple reason that when i want to hit it, i wanna have max. distance and not max. control + far distance. If latter would be the case i definitly would go with the rescue cuz the wood just places the ball anywhere without a chance to control it for me. -
Just found that thread. I play a lot in Egypt and nobody really cares how people drive the carts there. The manager told me a story where people actually sunk a cart in the lagoon not going into detail but i really can imagine happening this for two reasons. First, the course is completly built around the lagoon with quite good "acess points" and secondly some carts have really bad breaks (the ones that go the fastest actually) so i guess for people not 100 % sure of the fact that they might have a longer way to stop it than they think it might be very possible to sink it in the lagoon. Personally i drive pretty reckless when sitting in a cart too. During a scramble i had to take one of the older carts (no breaks but very fast). After the 11th hole the cart really had big problems to accelerate and in some occasions someone actually had to push if it was uphill. We checked the battery - everything okay and when it was driving it was okay too, just a bit slow - so we couldnt figure it out what was wrong. As we gave the cart back one of the caddys asked me what i´ve done to the front bumper. I had no clue what he was talking about, until i checked. That thing stood around 30 degrees away from the normal position. Actually i must have bumped into another cart and never realizied that the bumper blocked the right front driving wheel acting the whole time as a break... I bumped into other stuff before, streets posts, carts, palm trees, bunkers..., not people though even it was close, but never had any problems afterwards. Driving carts is really fun!

Hey there, sorry if this is more a basic question but i couldnt figure it out yet and hadnt time to ask a pro so maybe you can help me out. On my new home course which i play since a week, most of the fairways are very hilly so you often have to hit down or uphill at the ball - short and long distances. I noticed that i often hit a extrem deep divot or top it slightly if i have to hit it from such lies. How do you adjust to it, what clubs can i actually use - can i hit a 3 iron like i normally would do from a flat fairway or is this just to risky? Thanks for the help

I want to watch Amen Corner but it says "This stream in not available in your area" ?? I can see the driving range webcam though...

I really cant say that people hitting my Sumo2 ever lost distance compared to their drivers. I had it hit by all kind of people from pros to single and double digit handicappers and most were around or a tad longer than with their drivers.

Hey GirlieGolfer, sorry no i havent heard of David Lee - yet cuz i only play since a short time span (intensivly) but i will check it out. Personally i don´t feel uneasy hitting any of my clubs. I try to have as less different models of clubs in my bag as possible (i know i can hit irons well so why go with rescues or high fairway woods, which just makes it more difficult and more clubs you have to train - at least thats my opinion behind). Regards

Hello, you wrote in your opening post you had hit 1000 balls a day, is this with pitching and chipping. I really have a hard time thinking how someone can fire out 1000 balls a day on the range over a period of time doing this without problems. How many balls do the PGA-Guys hit on the range during a normal training day?

Oh great - and what do i do if i had it reshafted with a non-standard shaft???? Is this recall only for US or worldwide? Regards

Just bought a set of MP-67´s. I know i cant play them yet, guess i won´t use them on a round for a couple of months but i will start practicing with them on the range and for playing i still have my Callaway´s. The problem with the MP-67 - they just look so damn good, and i like the challenge - lets see if i´m up to it :)

Problem is that most of the time you dont hit the tee out of the ground or hit the head off what gives you unnecessary resistance with your shot.
-
Not really about tee hight, and probably most people know about this already or wouldnt make that kind of error. A couple of weeks ago i didnt had any short tees at hand for Par 3 iron shots so i just used my driver tees for a few rounds - with most shots that felt really strange like taking a too big divot. Finally i figured that hitting on that long tee which almost complety was in the ground robbed me swing speed. Since then i just use very short broken tees what works marvellous.

Too bad you didnt get it back - maybe it would have made the sound different - more "aquatic" :). I got a Sumo2 too and i love it - first time i ever crossed the 300m mark with a driver (no backwind, flat fairway, elevated tee box for about 3m). BTW - how high do you tee it up with your Sumo2 normally - i had a TM R7 before and teed it up quite high (about 1/3-1/2 ball looked over the clubface) with the Sumo2 i like it more center faced personally - you?

I hit a crazy shot today - using my sandwedge from about 30 yards on a par 3 in the semi rough, hit it way to strong, it hits the flagstick in about 1.5m height and it drops like a stone along the flagstick into the hole. It really looked like the backspin of the ball actually speeded the ball down the stick - very very strange shot...

I really dont know much about distribution of golfing equipment so i cant answere this question. Do they have different release/pre order shipments in US and Europe?

Waiting is over - next week i finally can buy an FT-i and then straight off to golfing vacation - perfect timing - thanks Callaway.

great in mats(driving range), poor in course...why?
kafka01 replied to Manu's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
My homeclub also offers only mats on the driving range - i really dont like it for hitting irons or wedges so i try as much as possible to go to clubs with grass ranges - its just not the same and you cant get the feel you need on the course - at least thats how its for me. Also my distances for middle/long irions from mats is different (longer) than hitting from grass. -
Advice Please: Driver or 3 wood first?
kafka01 replied to slapshotz's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Hello, i´m a rookie too, after getting a starter set of clubs i decided i wanted to get "real" clubs (only i enjoyed buying them so much). That didn´t make my game better obviously, but i think i can help you with your question. I didn´t had to decide between Driver or 3 Wood but after getting both, i honestly can say i don´t actually need a Driver yet (since distance for me is almost the same than with 3 wood - I bought the R7 Taylor Made line). So my recommondation for you would be to get a solid 3 wood, it will be more accurate, you don´t lose much distance, and if you get better you even get start hitting it from the fairway.. Hope that helps. -
Thanks for the responses - didnt knew there was something like impact tape, i will definitely try this out. I also will go to a clubfitter to get my swing-stats checked when getting the new Callaway-Driver and get the right driver (as a beginner i bought this one from Golfbidder with a approximation of loft/flex i would need). I heard a lot of people saying they hit it longer in the summer - whats understandable is that fairways probably offer more roll and so shots with the driver profit most - another argument was, that the air is dryer what makes the ball fly farer - does this really has an impact? Precision is not really a problem - at the moment i would estimate that about 50 percent of my hits with anything from Driver up to Irion 4 has a fade / slight slice (problem here still is the followthrough) and the rest goes quite straight Regards Juergen

It might be true, that they have a bigger marketing muscle, but they might need it, to get the image of Bridgestone as a tyremaker out of peoples minds. And people might feel uneasy to play with equipment which brand is associated with something so different than golf.

Hello all, i have a question regarding Driver vs. Wood 3 distances. I hit my driver about 220 m on good shots (about 240 yards) - problem is - i hit my Wood 3 around the same distance. I have Taylormade R7 460 9.5° Standard Flex and the R7 Steel Fairway Wood 3 15° Standard flex. My swing speed is about 95 - 100 mph (with my driver). Everybody i talked to says they hit their driver definitaly longer than their 3 wood. Nobody came up with a conclusion whats wrong here - any suggestions what could be the problem here. The only thing i could think off is, that the loft might be 1 - 1,5° to low - even i get them airborne nicely. Any hints appreciated, thx, Juergen

I find it interesting how many people actually care about the looks of a club - is this really a buying decision for you? If the technology behind a club is even a bit better than lets say a beatufiul designed but less developed club - why shouldnt i stick with the best, even if it might look like a piece of crap, and get laughed at by others? That even might stimulate my competitvness...
