I don't understand why this project makes so many people angry... Sure, it is "hogan's swing", but why not chase something that works? How many golf tips are 'keep your head down' or 'keep your arms in' etc. etc... if you work towards a known quantity it will ideally contain all of these aspects. The one valid point I read was iacas's question about 'which' hogan swing. Because he did have some changes over time. I've tried to make a hogan swing, I've tried to make a tiger woods swing... I have failed at both, but wish I could have succeeded. Good luck, and I will check back.

Long Putters and Belly Putters Taking Over
bustaone replied to stjames's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Reading through this thread, I remember the 'looks' complaint coming up more often than anything else. I should probably go back and tally, but that seems a little over the top. You're right though, imposing a length limit would not be fair to the tall people. Simply excluding the putter from being used for hazard relief is probably the most safe (and only needed) fix. I don't think that your "bumper" analogy has any basis here though, really. I find that, personally, I putt similarly with both my long and short putters. I find it a little easier to line up with the long one due to standing well over the ball rather than really close (some people I have heard make the opposite observation; that being closer to the ball makes it easier to line up). That and my back are the two 'benefits' I get, but neither are a competitive advantage. Then again, I'm not a particularly good putter in the first place. But despite my poor putting, I never just wail the ball in a random direction. My misses are usually due to misreading the slope or speed of a green. I think that cross grip putting is just as 'against the way golf is intended' as a long putter. No other club is cross gripped so it should not be allowed, right? But what about center-shafted putters? There are no other clubs in the bag that are center-shafted so it should also not be allowed? It mostly comes down to style, and we all know how 'styles' change over time. I think it's pretty cool how much variety there are in putters though. And with all that variety, there still seems to be no clear-cut best way of doing it. -
Long Putters and Belly Putters Taking Over

So, scores must be dipping into the mid-50's with the amazing advantage given by the long putters? Nope. Everyone must keep a really long one in their bag for relief purposes because they are so long! Nope. Egads! The principle complaint seems to be 'they look ridiculous', and the complainers are too self-conscious to try it out themselves so they demonize it. I use a 48" two grip putter right now, and I like it. Some days I putt better with it, some days I putt better with my old newport 2. I like being able to stand up at address (back issues) and personally it lets me see my lines a bit better because I have a better vantage point rather than being hunched over and having to turn my head to see the hole. It has been brought up many times: if belly/broom putters are wrecking the PGA tour, then the putting stats should all be topped by them. But they aren't, and they don't. It's just a preference. The only legitimate complaint I see is the hazard relief complaint. And to that I say, just slap a 48" limit on all clubs. That keeps it fair. -
I'm golfing to a 8 (on 9) so a 16 (on 18), and I don't know most of the rules. I usually learn them when I violate them in league and am penalized, but I'd say that I easily don't know most of the rules. But the real question you should ask yourself is; does it matter? Is it worth ridiculing the new guy who just happens to be excited about some crazy thing that occurred? Nice welcome to the community. I'd say it isn't worth it, but I also like to think that I'm not an *******. Furthermore, I'm more wary of handicap liars in the other direction (sandbaggers). Those people make me crazy.

That sucks man. I'm constantly golfing solo (golf is too expensive for my friends to do more than once a week) and I pretty much invariably find cool people to golf with. Made some new golf buddies this way. Worst I've found is the occasional 'teacher' which I just let know that I would not like them to 'diagnose' me. As for letting single golfers through... Sure, if there is open holes in front of you, but most the time there is a group right in front of the people in front of me so I just whap an extra shot from time to time to slow down. Sure, in a perfect world you could just run through everything fast and unhindered but if thats what you want find an absurdly unused tee-time on a rarely used course.

Here I sit in St. Paul Minnesota and I really really want to golf. The simulators just aren't cutting it, I need to be on grass! How far south do I need to go to find the first open golf courses? Any help is appreciated greatly!

Was brought up earlier this thread. This is an even more fun example.

It's like the difference between a lob shot and a chop shot in tennis/pingpong/whatever.. Or a 2 seam fastball vs a 4 seam fastball. Backspin creates negative pressure on top of the ball as it travels forward through the air which DOES create lift. If you can get lift from the backspin you can hit it lower and it will stay out of the wind currents... Hence being much more controllable. Sure you can mash it at an upwards angle with a low loft club... But nobody should be hitting knuckleballs, especially up into the active wind currents... I'm a terrible golfer, but the physics of it is pretty straightforward.

Backed up course, father on an outing with his son... And some ••••••• hitting golf balls at them out of his feeling of self-importance. Going to guess that the rest of this 5 page thread isn't on the side of the person who gladly (and brags about) puts other people's lives at risk.

It seems that you are 100% correct! It is not a sub-model, it's a custom job from scottycameron.com. Thanks for the information!

About 4 months ago I was putter shopping and saw this on ebay... It was a green accented NP2 with 4 leaf clovers on it. Bidding didn't get terribly high but for some reason I didn't jump in. Now I'm having a hard time finding any information on how it existed! Does anyone know? Hindsight is 20/20 and all, and I have been thinking about it ever since.

"Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf" by Ben Hogan

These items are the exact things that I work on from this book too. Keep arms against chest and rigid: as though they were bound together. Backswing up to the correct 'slot', and let loose. Keeping the arms against the chest makes slicing almost impossible. -
When I try to micromanage my swing while on the course I have all sorts of problems. Thats when you start to become tense, try to force your body to do things, and any number of other ways to psyche yourself out. Being on the course has so many more distractions that you can get overloaded if you try to do too many things at once. It can only get better from here for you!

Too many variables... Someone playing 5x a week for a year will drastically outpace someone playing 1x a month for 20 years. I think the way you should judge yourself is if you are getting better or not (even slowly). Sometimes you will be keeping the same score but will be getting better in an aspect of the game which exposes another weakness. This year I've spent an inordinate amount of time with my irons... Which made them better but now I have more long putts and I've shifted my missed iron shots to being 3 putts. So my HC this year has stayed relatively steady but I know that I've gotten better. Only you will be able to know what point you are at.
