  1. Actually I went to my dealer to inform the possibillity to order a set of 3-7 in 710 CB plus 8-PW in 710 MB, as I prefer blades in the scoring clubs and a little forgiviness in the longer clubs ....... he said he also had a 2009 set in stock called the ZB, that could well be what I was looking for. Got them fitted yesterday morning, TT Black Gold + 3/4" flex between R and S for me, 3-PW (although the 3i might end up somewhere.....) ..... will be ready on Saturday. At a start I will be using the set at the range ..... if I like them as much as some of you guys, the will replace my 2010 Wilson Staff FG-Tour.
  2. Thanks for all the advise ! My local dealer lent me his personal CG-15 56/14 and Vokey 60/07 to try on the course ...... I really liked the looks of the Vokey, but the CG-15 played like hell ...... so I went for the CG-15's.
  3. I have been using my RAM Zebra putter for over 25 years now ..... I just like it, but as all clubs and also my game have improved a lot over the past 25 years, I feel I loose most on putting. Nailing a drive or 3W where I about want it or getting a GIR isn't my problem, but making a 3-putt isn't also a big problem for me. Over the last 3 months I kept detailed scores, missing the fairway from the tee mostly on the left side, okay I am working on a better swingplane now with a good pro, getting lessons for the first time in maybe 15 yrs. GIR is also fairly good, compared to most players in my HC range, but where I add strokes to my score is in putting. Over the years I have holed many long putts, but I have also missed soooooooo many 3-4 ft. putts ..... I am sure I could go a mile into single HC if I would manage to reduce the 3-putts. My goal would be holing a few putts of 6-10 ft per round, holing the majority of the shorter ones and the long putts need to be done in two....... My chipping and pitching is also quite good, nothing worse than putting a 60 ft. chip within 4 ft. of the cup and needing two putts from there. Butt ...... how to select a better putter ?
  4. I wouldn't call these small, just normal .... but maybe smaller than average and they are a lot easier to handle than the new musscle back FG-Tour (which is actually the Pi-9). At $100 your chance of becomming a better ballstriker !
  5. I agree with all advise been given, but when I read you are hitting hooks with all your clubs, it might very well be that you are just simply using toooo thin grips !!!
  6. I currently use 3 Wilson Staff Gun Metal TW-9 wedges (52/8, 56/12 and 60/6) .... they are nice wedges, maybe a bit on the heavy side. The sixty degrees is hardly ever used. The 52 is used a lot around the green and for about all those shots needing a quick stopping shot over a bunker or other hazard. The SW is only used from the sand and we don't have very soft sand overhere, so when the sand is wet and hard to get through I mostly use the 52 with the blade opened. What I would like is the 52 to do is ...... adding more backspin. Looking at "better" wedges I see that most of our local low handicap players use the Vokey's My local retailer is a dealer of Cleveland and Titleist AND is very fond of the Laser grooves on the CG15 ..... I am in doubt and I feel that their 52 has a bit too much bounce (10)...... in an ideal world the bounce wouldn't heart from the grass (hitting the ball first), but being only a HC 14 player ..... not all my shots are like being in an ideal world...... Any advice Welcome .....
  7. I used to use the PW that came with my set (47*) and added a 52*, 56* and 60* for a while, mostly only using the 52* and 56*. Sometimes a 60* lob wedge can be a great companion, but it is also so easy to hit a fat ball with, that I tend to trade it in for a 58* Maybe I will opt for 2 wedges in future 52* and 58* only .....
  8. The point is that most golfers are using too stiff shafts, which can easely lead to all kinds of physical problems and besides resulting in shorter distances. If you have a swingspeed for a Regular shaft and you want to lower a ball flight it is better to choose for a R400 than for a S300, the higher the number, the higher also the flexpoint in the shaft and a higher flexpoint, means a lower ball flight. Or opposite if you need a stiff shaft and like a higher ball flight, opt for a S200...... Besides that a lot balls eding up a nasty spot, are the result of all kinds of problems (name a few ;) ), but not seldom the wrong shaft
  9. Maybe an old issue, been here a dozen times ..... I think most golfers are using tooooo stiff shafts ....... Let's hear it !
  10. Our first hole is a left dogleg of about 470 yds, with lots of trouble at the left inside corner, "can" go arround with a draw of at least 250 yds carry ..... no place or time to get nervous here ..... safest is straight hybrid right side, followed by straight hybrid or long iron left side of the fairway and U&D; to save par.
  11. Since I took out my 3 and 4 iron and replaced them with a 21* and 24* Hybrids with a softer landing ..... I am thinking of adding a 3rd Hybrid 19* or a 3rd wedge 60*. I had no trouble hitting the 3 or 4 iron, but there was almost no difference in length between them and the hybrids solved this...... they are great from the rough, great from the fairway and great from the tee at long Par 3's A hybrid 19* might fill the gap between my 15,5* F2 909 3wood and the 21* hybrid ..... or might it just be like the 21* with a slightly lower ball flight and would a 17* hybrid be a better choice.... On the other hand a 60* wedge might be great for 30-50 yds. backspinning pitches.... Soooooo many choices ......
  12. If you watch more carefully .... you will notice that at least 50-60% of today pro's are using Players Cavity Back irons. I used to play Wilson Staff Fluid feel about 25 years ago, at that time I used to hit at least 300+ balls per day and spended hour after hour on pitching, chipping, putting etc.... I went to single figure within a few months, but you just have to enjoy working hard to really control blades. After using a lot of SGI and GI sets, even with very low offset like in the TM Tour Preferred iron, I was about to go back to blades, I tried several, but my swing isn't like 25 years ago, a slightly more forgiviness is nice ...... I ended up at the Wilson Staff FG Tour (yesssss I have always been a Wilson Guy), they look to have a big cavity, but they play like a (musscle back) blade set ...... you just have to nail them at the sweetspot, but if you don't you still end up quite well. It will help you becoming a better ball striker if you chose for blades, you'll just simply have to, but I doubt the punishment you will receive on off center hits, will allow you to lower your handicap much ...... maybe it is a nice thought to pick up blades 8-LW and some cavity backs in 3-7 ....
  13. I am using the 907 d2 10.5 Diamana Blue 65 Stiff a few months now, since I asked the pro at the shop to sell me a driver that would alow me to work the ball. I used a Taylor Made Burner before, very easy to hit a straight middle of the fairway 210-220 yds shot with, but it was hard to fade or draw. After switching to the 907 d2 distance improved maybe 15 yds in average, but more important I could hit fades and draws when I wanted. Later I bought the 909 F2 3W and now I am thinking fo replacing the 907 d2 with a 909 d2, hoping for a carry of 250+ and keeping the workabillity. Any thoughts !
  14. I tried the RAC a few months ago when I bought my Tour Preferred irons, they felt a bit on the light side. In our country most bunkers are of heavy sand so a slightly heavier wedges is the way to go. I went for a pair of the Wilson Staff TW9 ..... 52* / 8 bounce and 56* / 12 bounce and I use the 52*/8 around the green, rough and really hard and/or wet sand and the 56*/12 for the softer sand.
  15. There isn't a lot of difference in yardage between a 5W and 3W of the fairway, so if you are happy with the 5W I would not advise to put an almost the same club in your bag, most 3W are a great option from the tee at narrow fairways, but from the fairway hitting it a tiny bit below optimum the result might easy be less than the same shot with your 5W. Being a HC 20 player, one cannot expect to hit great shots all the time with a 3W, which might well be the hardest club to hit consistently.
  16. I have been a Ping user for a long time, started with the Eye2 about some 25 yrs ago and I must admit they were easy to hit well balanced clubs at a time, most other maker didn't offer fitting as a standard option, from there I went to Wilson Blades and after many Mizuno TP and MP sets I am back to more forgiving irons. I like a small blade like design and I am currently fond of the Wilson FG Tour and Taylor Made Tour Prefered, today looking at Ping ...... they just look so large and I don't like the offffffset of most of their clubs.
