  1. as a dental student, dippinng is worse than smoking as it leads to an extremely high prevalence to oral cancer, gum disease, and thus loss of teeth. not only that, it's disgusting when people spit their chew everywhere on the course.
  2. i'd expect whoever wins the casey-ogilvy match will be the favorite to take the match play title.
  3. woods over o'hern stenson over baddeley howell over rose poulter over immelman toms over campbell cink over ames casey over micheel ogilvy over fasth i think o'hern will put up more of a fight than most people think. i wouldn't be surprised to see playoff holes. then again, this is tiger we're talking about.
  4. depends what you're looking for. shafts can change your ballflight, your launch angle, and your spin. make sure to choose a shaft that fits your profile, or better yet, get fitted for one. if getting fitted is not an option, do research on what the shaft is like to make sure it will give you the desired traits you're looking for. also, make sure you read multiple reviews. every swing is different and the shaft will thus be different experiences for everyone. man, i'm starting to sound like gas_can!
  5. rifles have a higher ball flight than a comparable flexed dynamic gold. it also produces more spin. i honestly love the rifles in my irons but reshafted my hybrids with the TT black gold. ball flight is alot lower, but plays stiffer the stated stiff.
  6. i believe uniflex is in between regular and stiff. a "firm" flex if you will. if i am wrong, someone please correct me.
  7. aqua, the swingspeed i was hitting the ball at the launch monitor was ranging from 99-106. i don't think i should step up to a stiff shaft at all as i've heard the comp nt usually plays true to flex or is a little stiffer. gas_can, i've been sure to check out my alignment and setting up to the ball properly before each strike. ball position: plays in between my left toe and my left heel. alignment: this hasn't ever been a problem for me. i also sometimes play a round with a club at my feet to make sure that if i mishit, alignment was not the causing factor. grip: i play a tad stronger than neutral grip but is pretty close to neutral. tee height: i've heard that teeing it low is very important and i've stuck to it. much lower than my previous SQ. swing plane: i try to swing under my shoulder plane and i still don't understand why i'm getting so much spin. if this keeps going on, can anyone recommend some low spin driver heads and low spinrate shafts? thanks!
  8. yep, i was actually skying the ball extremely high on the course. then i went and tried hitting some balls at a golf shop launch monitor and i was launching the ball at 18 degrees!
  9. i'm getting huge backspin with my driver recently and robbing me of distance. i know that it's probably because of my angle of attack but was wondering if it could be anything else. anyone have any tips/drills to flatten out my swing plane? thanks!
  10. thanks aqua and gas_can. appreciate the help! i'll ulpdate the results when i test it out. thanks!
  11. thanks for the input. i've tried the nvs in a driver and found it very whippy. perhaps it is due to the tip softness. i will test to see how it fits. is tee performance severely compromised with a softer tipped shaft? on tighter fairways or when i'm not hitting driver well i like to use my 3 wood to get back on track.
  12. I have this shaft in my driver and was wondering whether this has what you would classify as a "soft tip". i am looking into putting an aftermarket shaft into my 3 wood and was hoping to get a soft tip shaft to have an easier time hitting the ball off the deck. any suggestions or input is appreciated. thanks! OOPS. i meant grafalloy not aldila.
  13. i tried a bunch of gold digest recommendations and the callaway x was the best for me. it's my money club when i'm not finding fairways with my driver and for narrow fairways. i'm thinking about getting a softer tipped shaft to improve hitting it off the deck, but off the tee, it feels like butter. the other club i was considering was the sasquatch. ball flight was a little too high for me so i went with the x fairway.
  14. it's just been announced on espn that tiger will not be playing in the opener at kapalua.
  15. i read about the zero friction tees review on the sandtrap site and was intrigued when it was said that these things don't break. they don't and i'm very happy with them.
  16. if it works, tour players will start putting them in their bags. average golfers tend to look at what pros are playing to gauge what they should be playing. as long as tour players use it (and it seems like tour players will use whatever that works), the masses will follow.
  17. WOW my girlfriend surprised me with a nikon laser caddy 500 rangefinder. i am so stoked!
  18. it makes sense for consistency. i just didn't know if since 460cc heads require a different shaft spec than a smaller headed fairway wood.
  19. 3 dozen pro v1's cleveland hi-bore 9.5 w/ E370 Fujikura shaft would be nice to get the white hot xg #3 but i'd have to get it myself.
  20. i've never tried using the same shafts in my driver and fairway wood but i'm wondering if that if a shaft works for your driver, it should work equally well in your fairway wood? i'm thinking about experimenting but does anyone have any experiences with this?
  21. i read from the site and it says that there's no words and the swing sequences are accompanied by soft music. that's a very interesting approach to a golf instructional dvd as it sounds like the visual part of your brain has to take over to instill what a correct swing looks like without it being described. am i right in this assessment? or is the dvd description from the website wrong?
  22. i've done research on how to approach a fitting day. now all that's left is to find a place. around my area, there are golf galaxy and golf usa. has anyone any experience with these two stores when it comes to club fitting? i'm curious on the policies of these places as to demoing the club on the course. is it standard for stores to allow the player to use the club and return it if it is not satisfactory? any insight on these little details would be great. thanks!
  23. i've been using the nike ignite for the past couple months and i've been happy with them thus far. it's the first ball that i've been consistently using (using whatever prior to that) and it's made a big difference in my game. so much so that i dropped about 5 strokes off my handicap within the first 5 weeks. i've never tried the pro V1's as they carry a pretty steep sticker price. i'm going to get fitted for a driver in the spring and will get fitted for a ball. has anyone tried both the ignite and the pro v1? i'm really wonder how they compare.
  24. i've tried neither putter but i've read articles stating that forward roll (i'm assuming top-spin mentioned by maverick) encourages a ball to roll straighter and truer than one that rolls forward later.
  25. callaway is coming out with the FT-i which also has a similar head size. i'm about to get fitted for a new driver this coming spring so i'm curious as to how these perform.
