If your willing to spend $300 on a set of Irons I would suggest buying a new set, but buy a prior year model that's on clearance. i.e I picked up a brand new set of Calloway x-22 tours for $315. Most places will fit them for you for free and like other people have said, that will make a huge difference!!

The hole that I used does have a slant to it, so about half of the balls have break to them.

Been chunking a lot of approach shots lately and tried this drill out. Seems to be helping! http://www.thegolfchannel.com/golf-v...rer=vgpresults
-
That's a great drill too! Take 10 balls and try to chip them into a 3 foot circle. Keep doing it until you score 8 points out of 10 balls. 1 pt inside circle and 2 pts in the cup.
-
Been doing this drill now at least once a week and up until today my best was 63 without a miss. This afternoon I finally rattled off 100 in a row without a miss. The last ten seemed like 10 footers!! Great drill!!

I often play a par 3 course by my mother-in-laws house that has no rating or slope. Does anyone know what the average rating/slope of a par 3 course is, or is there a way to somehow get a rough estimate? The course is not that long, meaning there are 2 holes under 80 yards, but the greens are horribly long and almost impossible to putt on, but I finally shot par on the stupid course this weekend and want to log my round for handicap purpose. Most of the time I just practice my iron play on it, but I started out with a birdie on the hardest hole and thought I would give it a run at shooting par.

I think this would cover it, but not sure?? 25-1b/8 Player's Options When Bunker Completely Covered by Casual Water Q. If a player's ball lies in a bunker completely covered by casual water, what are his options? A. The player may play the ball as it lies or: (1) drop the ball in the bunker without penalty at the nearest point, not nearer the hole, where the depth of the casual water is least — Rule 25-1b(ii)(a); or (2) drop the ball behind the bunker under penalty of one stroke — Rule 25-1b(ii)(b); or (3) deem the ball unplayable and proceed in accordance with Rule 28.

1. People who tell me that they haven't played golf in 3 years and rarely ever play, yet went out the other day and shot a 75. Really? Do I have gullible tattooed on my forehead?? 2. I play a lot by myself, so I hate foursomes who refuse to let me play through!! Come on!!
-
No way your hcp should drop that much with 8 rounds being calculated. I would ask what formula they are using? Everyone in the league that I play in knows the formula so there are no questions!
-
How many rounds have you played in your league?

Couldn't agree more!

Where in this post does it say that I was totally blaming my partner for my colapse?? But some of you can go ahead and assume that and rip me new one about how weak minded I am. It must be nice to have ice in your viens like the majority of the people who commented seem to have! The post was supposed to be kind of funny so "Lighten up Francis!" (I'm quoting the movie "Stripes" there.)
-
Couldn't agree more! Name the time and place!!
-
I'm not blaming him, that would be stupid. If your as funny in person as you are on this forum, I would play a round with you any day! Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm glad I have someone on my side. That hot chick analogy is some funny stuff!!!
-
I think its funny that the first person to respond to the post is "Jay-Bird"!!
-
I would agree with that! Ecspecially when there is large prize money involved! I used to play in a scramble where first place was 1200.00. They would have two foursomes playing per hole and they had to keep each others score to make sure no one cheated.
-
I love how everyone pretends to act like that wouldn't have bothered them! Don't misunderstand me, I'm not blaming anyone else but myself. To me its like a unwritten rule, if someone is doing something that they normally wouldn't be doing, ie: no hitter or bowling a 300, you don't have to let them know. THEY KNOW! You think anyone went up to David Duval when he shot his 59 and said. Dave, man you have a chance at a 59!! No way!
-
I don't know if I would call it superstitious? Superstitious would be needing to use the same ball marker every round or life as we know it might end!
-
I guess I did! My nerves are more like Dustin Johnson and a lot less like Tiger Woods!
-
I know it's not as extreme but it would be like telling a pitcher, "Hey you know you have a perfect game going" or a telling a bowler in the 9th frame, "Hey you are on pace for a 300". Thanks but no thanks! Compliment me at the end.

Another Rookie Swing Question..
martytilma replied to Billiam7's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Not sure what the question is, but to me it looks like you are using all arms and hands and not really using your body like you should. I'm no expert though! -
So I'm playing in my league last night and I have the round of my life going. I'm -3 after 4 holes and the 5th hole is a par 5 reachable in 2. I reach it in two and just lip out my eagle putt. Tap in for birdie. -4 after 5. Next hole I lip out another putt for birdie, -4 after 6. I'm playing lights out! So on the way to the next hole my partner looks me right in the face and guess what he says? You guessed it, "you have a hell of a round going". I'm like, "really! I hadn't noticed" (I was being sarcastic). I proceeded to finish bogey, par, double for a -1. Still good round, but I had a chance at our league record of -4 and totally blew it. Anyone else have similar experience?
-
Exactly! I'm usually the best golfer in our foursome, so I go last. 9 out of 10 times there is usually a safe shot out there, so what do I do? Grip and Rip! I usually play like crap in scrambles for that very reason, trying to do stuff I don't normally do. Played in one a month ago. Had a really good team, shot -17 with a par on the last hole. I think my putt only mattered 1 time! On the last hole to go -18, and I missed! That's what happens when the 3 in front of you are sinking everything in sight and I don't get a chance to putt.

I have a couple of older buddies that used to play a lot of stoke play golf. Now you can't get them out unless you are playing a scramble. They say they are out there to have fun and not chase thier balls all over the course. I used to like playing them when I was younger, but the better I got, the more I disliked them. (scrambles, not my buddies. Ha!) Still play in a few here in there, but mostly charity outings and such. To each their own I guess.
