  1. Bit curious on peoples opinions on how a beginner should start practicing. Everytime I took a lesson as a beginner, and the beginners I see taking lessons at the range, always get instructed to do a full turn and follow through. The approach is always focused around the full swing it seems. So basically you go as a beginner, learn to sway around while you turn completely, cast the club and make some sort of contact. I dont know what the approach is of more qualified coaches, but wouldn't it be better to just focus on a good take-away, a little bit of hinge and hitting with forward shaft lean. Then when you can do that , just increase the swing a little bit gradually and just keep practicing like that. Focus would always be on impact position and ball contact. Also it would be much easier to stay more centered and not sway around. Looking back at my early lessons, I think this is how I would have liked to approach it.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I think I will just make sure to practice in different environments (different ranges, courses with less people etc) and always make sure to check on camera whats going on. I will resist the urge to get sucked in to just hitting ball after ball on the range with no feedback. Another thing I think I read somewhere, is the idea that for example making 10 good reps/swings 5 times a days is better than doing 50 good reps in a row? If you think about it takes alot more mental effort and reflection that way. I dont know the science behind this or if it is true. Anybody have any thought about this?
  3. Hi, with an online coach I finally managed to stay behind the ball, have spine tilt in downswing, shaft lean at impact and a nice release out front. My previous habits were to kinda move too much laterally and get stuck with the arms. However, for me to perform a good swing it takes alot of recording and checking everything looks okay. If I want to have a good ratio of good swings to bad swings its a lof of effort stil so I do it best at home into a net (I have a R10 so I see I have okay ball flight and launch angle etc). However, when I go to the range I feel like the ratio good to bad swings suffers and even if I record and try to check it often its just not the same as at home I guess. Just curious with your experiences on improving the swing and in different environments? I could also just play more golf and worry less about the swing I guess, and just go back and work on it off and on, but nothing ever changes that way I guess?
  4. Hi, I've been hitting my irons pretty good lately, with a baby draw. I also work with the Dewiz sometimes and with video to see what the club is doing and in general the club path looks okay I think. However, lately im trying to rotate much to see more of the 2 back pockets at impact. To be fair im probably over-rotating or rotate too early in practice now (hopefully I'll find a good middle-ground eventually). However, I notice that the club path becomes worse and less shallow, since more rotation just forces the club outwards I think? It might just be a timing issue as well, not sure. Just wondering if someone knows any instructional video on this topic or has any ideas on this topic,
  5. Lately I kind of figured out how to play better off the tee. I think I had a tendency to be too static/tensed. Lately the only swing thought I have is feeling like my weight/energy moves left-right-left. It does require some kind of trigger to push the weight down left and then right to initiate the swing. Focusing on this while playing, especially with driver has made a huge difference to my game. It also speeds up the backswing I think and doesnt really allow for many swing thoughts for me. I think this just makes me work more with the body first and give the face enough time to square. I know it's hardly any new idea but maybe it can help. Today I had my best run ever in golf and was +3 over the first 11 holes, unfortunately it didnt quite last the whole round (ended up +10, still a very good round for me), but gave me a lot of confidence.
  6. No, when I got fitted I didn't slice it, it was more like straight or small fade (at the time I felt good about it, since I knew I wanted to get rid nasty hooks as a miss). I think it's a bit different when I feel warm and loose. We did try a few different brands and flexes even though I was probably leaning towards g425max in general, since I wanted very forgiving long clubs. I will follow the advice above for now, about posting a swing video and take it from there. Thanks for the input.
  7. good idea, thank you. I will try to record my driver-swing in a high frame-rate and see if I can get some good feedback.
  8. Not sure if its a casting issue, on the downswing my club tend to be around 90 degree when my arms are parallel to the ground and the club becomes parallel around the time my hands are at same height as my pockets (at least with irons, dont have any recent recording off my driver swing). Anyway, would it be crazy to play stiff shafts for everything except driver, as the new shafts have helped my ball flight in general. is that very unusual?
  9. My old driver was drawing more, with the occasional miss being a hook, while the new Ping had a more straight flight. I would however, be more comfortable at the course at the moment, to just play with my old club as the slice never happens.
  10. Hi, I hope this is the right sub-forum for this posts. Was just wondering on advise how to proceed in my situation. I worked myself down to a 15 handicap and got fitted for new clubs recently (zx5 and Ping g425 max for 4hybrid, 3wood, driver). I went from using regular to stiff shafts (as my swing speed has improved during this year). I am overall pleased with the new clubs (mostly because my long irons and hybrid/wood is no longer hooking to the left but goes more or less straight most of the time). My driver however, became awfully hard to hit, unless I really feel like im getting the right hip and weight transfer to the left and give my arms enough time. However, my scores are suffering now as I just slice it too often. Was wondering if somebody else had the same experience changing shaft flex? I think my options are to just tee off with the 3 wood or put the old driver back in the bag? Does it make sense to use my new driver until it gets better? its bit of a confidence killer.
  11. I know this is an old thread, but wanted to add that, I had some hand-pain over the last half year, and trigger finger. I would recommend sleeping with wrist-splints. I know it sounds hard to believe, but it cured my problems within 2 weeks, not sure why exactly. I been playing golf now every day as well, and just have some soreness in the morning (1 out of 10 pain).
  12. thank you for the reply. On the range I start with short wedge shot and work my way through all the clubs, from short to long. Sometimes I rotate between the clubs after I'm warmed up as well. Maybe I should try to hit some 3 woods before I'm warmed up on the range as well, to get used to it. I suspect it's something mental, I'm not sure. It's just such a big discrepancy between hitting shot after shot with all acceptable outcomes on the range and then not being able to hit a 3 wood more than 30 yards and taking a pivot that's way left or just duffing it so hard the ball hardly moves. Thank you for the input, I'm sure it will be okay eventually, with more experience on the course and less on the range maybe.
  13. Hello everyone, some sessions I just cant hit tee-shots with any club. I put in a lot of practice in my golf swing at the range over the last 6 months, and would say that 90% of my shots there are going straight with a slight draw and a reliable distance. Im also becoming a fairly long hitter for an amateur. When I hit it bad on the range, its usually a fade to the right but stil a playable ball. I do shank it just on occasion. However, some rounds of golf, I just cant hit a single tee shot. I really dont understand why and its driving me crazy sometimes. Anybody else struggling to take swing improvements from range or studio to the golf course? For some reason, the more difficult shot is on the golf course, the more likely I am to hit it pretty good tho, I actually like to adjust for the lay of the ball etc. Maybe it takes the pressure off as Im no longer confident to hit those shots. I dont know if my expectation of a round of golf should be that im gonna do well, or if its better to expect to do bad, to be more relaxed.
