  2. well this is taking things a little too far... http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/golf-devil-ball-golf/golfer-stabbed-leg-trying-play-163539055.html Quote: You may want to reconsider asking the foursome in front of you if you can play through the next time you're on the course. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram , an on-course altercation turned ugly when a threesome tried to play through a slow foursome that was holding the group up. After receiving instruction from the course marshal to play ahead, the group encountered a roadblock when they tried to pass the foursome. Clay Carpenter, a member of the threesome got into a war of words with the foursome, and before he knew it, he was on the ground fighting with one of the golfers. That's when things turned really ugly, after a member of the foursome reportedly used a broken club shaft to stab Carpenter in the leg twice. But the story gets even more bizarre. As Carpenter lay suffering with a punctured femoral artery and massive blood loss, a member of the foursome called 911 and told the dispatcher that the victim had fallen "on a golf club or something." Carpenter was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and released on Sunday. That's the good news. The unfortunate news is that the loss of blood could lead to Carpenter having his leg removed due to the lack of blood flow. "People get in arguments every day on every golf course in America," Carpenter told the Star-Telegram. "But 99.9 percent of the time no one takes it this far." It should never get to this point. Hopefully the entire foursome gets the book thrown at them for this gruesome incident.
  3. "Live From... " is a pregame show. so, the golf starts when the show is over. They don't show live golf on that show.
  4. i suppose i should be thankful they cancelled ahead of time. I have one friend who either shows up late or backs out at the very last minute. He doesn't get invited anymore. Nothing's worse than making a tee time reservation and waiting around at the golf course for someone to show up, missing the time, or getting charged for no shows.
  5. hah. thanks. I have no problem playing as a single, i do it all the time, i just hate the frustration that comes with trying to make plans with people.
  6. Sorry in advance for the rant. Seriously. I've been trying to put together 8 people to go out and play a round of golf. We planned it almost a month in advance. Then one by one people dropped out until there was only me. This happens all the time. Every time i see people they're always like "yeah we should get together and play" or "that was fun that time we all got together, lets do it again" so i try to put it together and everyone backs out. I know people have busy lives and what not, but don't say you're going to show up and then back out. Just say you can't make it. I give up. From now on i'm playing as a single. No more making plans.
  7. looks awesome, nice job!
  8. Skydroid will do that as well.
  9. One time at the range, i sliced a drive, and somehow the ball hit the guy-wires on one of the poles holding up the netting, ricocheted right back and almost killed the guy next to me. i was too stunned to yell "fore!"
  10. hah i had to talk myself out of buying that sasquatch bag ochmude posted. It's a nice looking bag!
  11. Have you contacted the manufacturer? A bag should last more than one season
  12. I use SkyDroid and i haven't had any problems, well worth the $2. Sometimes it's inaccurate but i think that's more a problem of the phone GPS than the app.
  13. Whenever i whiff i always say loudly "THAT WAS A PRACTICE SWING" and then it doesn't count ;)
  14. if you're trying to hit the ball, then yes. if you take a backswing and then stop it before it hits the ball, like a batter checking his swing on a bad pitch, then no.
  15. Well it'll be the site of the Barclays in 2012 and 2016, and with the US Open on long island at Shinnecock in 2018, it seems unlikely to happen again in this decade. But I guess it doesn't matter, just cause its not a major, doesn't mean the Barclays won't be fun to watch.
  16. Guess that means we won't see the US Open return there any time soon: http://sports.espn.go.com/golf/news/story?id=6715653
  17. when i played this sunday, i found 6 balls around the parking lot, which is to the right of the 18th tee, including a Pro V1 and 2 Pentas. Whoever is slicing their tee shots off the clubhouse roof probably shouldn't be playing with expensive balls, but thanks guy, whoever you are.
  18. The one near me is offering a swing evaluation of $99*, (*with purchase) with purchase of what? more lessons? without purchase it's $179. Seems ridiculous for a franchise that just opened like a month ago. you would think they'd want to draw people in with an introductory offer. I'll be getting lessons at the local range, thanks anyway.
  19. Man i do this too. It never fails if i hit a good tee shot on the fairway, i will follow it up but hitting my second shot fat, leaving a huge divot and knocking the ball forward about 30 yards. If i hit it in the rough off the tee, i'm fine.
  20. or Landscape Architecture. I played a round this weekend at the SUNY Delhi college course (beautiful course btw) in upstate NY, and they have a bunch of golf related programs you could look into. http://www.delhi.edu/academics/acade...ence/index.php I'm an Architect (buildings, not landscape) and if you're planning on going into a design field, my only advice is don't count on a lot of money once you get out of school. it's a difficult career path, sometimes rewarding, sometimes extremely frustrating. Not a lot of the people i went to architecture school with stuck with it once they graduated. Also as someone else pointed out, the last decade was a boom for golf course construction, but now... not so much, it's going to be a while before things pick up again.
  21. here's a video some guys made about sleeping in their car for a tee time:
  22. heh yeah i played in january this year too, it was what i imagine golfing after the apocalypse might look like. No leaves on the trees so everything just seemed dead and there were no people anywhere. the bright side was because all the grass was dead too, everything was fairway, there was no rough. to the OP if you're planning on playing the Black Course at Bethpage, i would just check with them to find out when they close it for the season. Other courses there do stay open year round, but season ends for the black sometime in November, i believe.
  23. maybe during the week it's different, but i'm usually at bethpage on the weekends, and i've rarely seen an open slot for the Black. And in terms of difficulty nothing at Bethpage is as difficult at the Black by far, but the Red is a beautiful, well maintained course and has quite a few challenging holes.
  24. Bethpage Black is a very difficult course to walk on to without a reservation, and it's difficult to get a reservation if you're not a new york state resident. As a single there is a small chance you could get on, but luckily, if you can't there are 4 other 18 hole courses at Bethpage to play. I recommend the Red Course as a second choice.
  25. i'm feeling great right now, i can't wait to get out there again. I started playing 2 years ago and my average score this year has been in the 102-106 range, my main difficulty has been slicing off the tee. I've put some time in at the range and solved my problem (not closing the clubface at impact) and am now feeling what it's like to release the club through impact and i'm hitting everything straight and 20 yards longer than i was. I played Bethpage Red last weekend and shot a 93. The best part was playing all 18 with the same ball, no searching through the woods. i can't wait to see what this weekend will bring.
