I'm thing of upgrading my current driver at the moment (TM R7 460) after yesterday demoing a 909 DComp around my local course and consistently ending up 20m further down the fairway (well sometimes the rough as well). I really didn't expect to get that much extra length out of a newer club, but i was very impressed with it. I've never had a trouble slicing the ball, my bad drives are normally pull hooks so I really don't like looking at a closed face as it really doesn't inspire me with any confidence. I really liked the way the 909 DComp sat at address, but before a get something new I want to try everything that might suit me. So what would people recommend I try in a drivers with a square to open face, and that just bombs it out there. Cheers

Hello All, I’m just wondering people views on which type of face is best for distance control (milled, insert, grooved, etc). I currently have an Odyssey White Hot #2 CS, which I love from 5 metres in, but when I start to have to judge to the distance more on longer putts I really struggle. I think this may also be due to me have a long slow putter stoke, which I struggle to accelerate for the longer putts. I’m thinking that maybe a milled putter would suit me better as the ball comes off a bit faster (that’s what I’ve been lead to believe), but in general what do people recon is better for judging lag putts. P.S. I really want to get a Mizuno Bettinardi C-05 as they look awesome.

Anyone have an Odyssey Black Series i Putter?
Smilesy replied to jrode's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've never seen all the fuss about Scotty putters, I've tried a few and they have never done it for me. It could be that I have too higher expectations of them, but I'm sticking with my White Hot #2 CS. -
I just love my putter. Its 7 years old now, and I've never thought about changing it since I got it. Its a Odyssey #2 CS, it never misses for me, best purchase I've ever made.

I have a MP-R 51* mizzy wedge and love it, that said you really do need to hit the middle, I from time to time have a problem hitting to far towards the toe, and the ball looses massive distance, about 50%. I have found that the ball spins well, one hop stop rather than coming back a couple of metres with the Volkeys. As for feel i think Mizzy's are better if you find the middle, and its good to get feedback when you miss the middle, but the loss of distance isn't good.

I recently got a CG12 DSG 56, and I love it. I tried out both the CG12 and CG14 in 56 degree, and found for me that the CG12 just felt the best. I do think though that the CG14 is easier to hit on a full shot though, due to the sole, it doesn’t dig quite as much as the CG12. On chips I can get my CG12 to one hop stop, which is a totally new experience for me, as I’m a fairly love spin player, but I recon it looks very cool. I does put more importance on making a good contact every time though, as if you hit it slightly thin it just run straight across the green. Also I recon the DSG is awesome around the green, it gives you so many options, but I’m not sure about it for full shots. Anyway, good luck with whatever you get.

20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
Smilesy replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I used to be able to hit about 300 yards when i was a 20+ handicapper, but it wasn't normally down the fairway. I now hit constistantly about 280, but much straighter. It is very possible to have a powerful swing, but no constistancy. And I had no short game then either, even if i could get to the green on a par 5 in 2, or just off, it would normally take me 3 shot to get in. -
[QUOTE= The other thing is the idea that the clubs (mainly blades) in themselves will make you better because they teach you how to make center contact. I've heard so many times where people say blades will improve your ball striking because they tell when you make off center contact and make you improve your swing. Making off center contact won't teach you anything except that you made off center contact and leave you wondering what happened and how to resolve it.[/QUOTE] I disagree. I have mp32's and before that pro II's and they force you to improve your ball striking over time. As for the mp 32's i love them. I haven't found the heads to be that heavy though. My friend has some Srixon forged iron, i think they are 503's and they feel quite a bit heavier.

I agree they don't look that good, but they may play well. It may be a performance thing for him.

From what i understand ProV1, B330s, TP Black, Z-URS, Tour i, are softer, and will spin more than there counterparts, this also means that they will go a long further. My understanding is that in general players with higher swing speeds will use the harder balls as they tend to generate too much spin with the softer balls. Most of the tour pros use the Pro V1x rather than the Pro V1

Hi all, just wondering what people view as the most forgiving ‘players’ iron? I know the term players iron is pretty subjective but I mean irons that can be worked and would generally have a pretty thin top line and sole.
-
I would love to be able to try them all, but over here in Australia its much harder to. I can hit them in a net in a shop, but i always feel that it doesn't really tell you everything, you need to be hitting them off turf so you can see how the sole interactes with the ground and be able to see the ball flight you are getting. I always read about people getting fitted over there an wish we could get that over here.

I don't think i really need to change, but i'll admit that i do like getting new things, and now i'm not a student i have money to buy clubs. I was really trying to workout how much of an improvement their has been in technology in the last 8 years. My clubs are looking pretty worn now, but they do still work well. The only thing i don't like is the knife like sole. It is so easy to hit the ball fat.

Hi All, I’m just wondering how my club go in forgiveness terms compared to newer clubs. I’m playing Mizuno Pro II’s. I have been looking at getting a new set for a while and every time I demo a club I can’t miss the centre (I wish I had this problem when I’m playing). It doesn’t matter what it is, I middle it, which makes it hard to know how forgiving they are. Can anyone tell me how Pro II’s compare with some new clubs; I’ve been looking at the TM R7 TP’s and the Mizuno MP 57’s. Cheers

Loss of distance with MP 57s
Smilesy replied to The Golfing Polack's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I've been playing old Mizuno Pro II's for a while now and I've found them to be shorter than most other irons. I've been told its the cost of having such soft metal, but I'm not sure, it could be the same thing for you. -
Mizuno MP 67. I love them, when i have the money they are going in the bag, the seem to be just as forgiving as the 57's but feel better.
-
I have crome wedges at the moment, but my next set will definatly not be. I keep getting blinded by the sun. Living in Australia its noramally pretty sunny.
-
From what i know the i10 is more smilar to the R7 TP than the R7's. I hit the i10's a short while ago and loved them, i was hitting everything well that day though, so i think i would have loved anything.

I just saw that Cannavaro has been ruled out, so i now think that it has to be France. When i look at the Spainish defence i think they have a chance, but i do think that they lack a good defensive mid to act as their sheild, like Veira and Makélélé.
-
England didn't qualify. I have a feeling that it will be a defensive tournament with attacking play not being rewarded. So i think Italy or France will win it.

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has hit the new Tour Burner Irons. I’m looking for a new set of irons soon. From what Taylor Made say they are the sort of thing I’m after, they are pretty forgiving, but they can also be worked a bit, but everyone claims that.
-
Thanks very much for all that. Sounds to me that the Dynamic Gold shaft would be a better fit for me. Cheers

I just wondering what the main differences are between the Dynamic Gold S300 and the rifle 6.0 shafts are. I'm looking for a new set of irons soon and am not sure what shafts to get in them. Cheers
