  1. Thank you both for your replies. TourSpoon - I am thinking about working at a golf course for fun. I will retire from my career before taking a job at a golf course. I am hoping to learn about the different job possibilities at a golf course while taking some classes. Golfchief - I don't know which type of course management I want. I would assume the business side is more stressful on a daily basis while the chemical side is more of a time consuming process. Is that accurate?
  2. How can I get into Golf Course Management if I already have a full time job? If I wanted to become a nurse or hotel manager I could take online courses or night courses. I can't find anything similar for Golf Course Management. BTW - I live in Orlando.
  3. How true are the handicaps? I have heard of tournaments (not Golf Channel tournaments) where a 26 handicapper somehow had the best weekend of his life and combined a 72,75 to win. I assume there is something in place to ensure this doesn't happen?
  4. I just purchased the 2-ball SRT and I love it. I have never had a putter that I was comfortable with until now. It has easily taken 5-6 strokes off of my round of golf. Unluckily, my lessons have added 10-12 strokes to my round so I am still worse than I was a month ago.
  5. I appreciate it. I will revisit this thread once I make my final plans. Thanks again everyone for your help.
  6. Thank you for the article. I will obviously take that into consideration when scheduling my trip. I just played golf with someone that has a vacation home on Pawley's Island (I think that's what it's called). He highly recommended that area for golf. He mentioned a few courses but True Blue is the only one I remember. I live in central Florida so summer heat in SC shouldn't be a problem. I know it will be hot but that's what I have to put up with 10 months out of the year down here.
  7. That is great information. Thank you very much for your help. Do you know of any place that would offer golf packages for the courses you mentioned?
  8. That is the exact reason I started thinking about it. If the rest of my game is playing as a 4-6 handicap then I know what I need to work on. I also don't record my sand saves, but I would guess my % is closer to 25%.
  9. That is a great chart. Thanks for sharing that. I am on the edge but with a little work on my short game I should be an avid golfer. I putt like a bogey golfer.
  10. I believe I hit my irons like a 4-5 handicap golfer, drive the ball like a 5-6 handicap golfer, and putt like an 18 handicap golfer. Somewhere in that ugly equation is a 10-11 handicap golfer. Summary - Driver / 3-Wood: 6 handicap Irons: 5 handicap Putter: 18 handicap Actual: 11 handicap How would you rate yourself?
  11. 330 yard par 4 - straight. My drive stopped 2 yards from the green, directly in the middle of the face of the green. At 5' 9" 150 lbs I don't exceed 300 yards too often (~once every other year). The result was a beautiful chip and 2 putt for par :(
  12. Based on that other thread I was thinking about looking into the following courses. - Barefoot (which one?) - Caledonia - TPC (greens in good shape?) - World Tour - True Blue - The Masters I have not researched these much so I could have just named courses that area 100 miles apart. I have no idea. I was hoping to play the TPC course but it sounds like it was in rough shape and overpriced. Is it safe to assume that has been fixed or will be by this summer? I am just starting this process so I don't even know what month I'll be going for sure. Any suggestions on the best value? Any time I should avoid? Thanks again for everyone's help.
  13. Thank you very much for the link. This is exactly what I was looking for. TPC is one of the best courses in Myrtle Beach? How do these courses rank compared to the other courses there?
  14. I am planning on taking a golf vacation this summer and could use some suggestions. I live near Olrando, FL and I need a place I can drive to within 10-12 hours. So far Myrtle Beach seems like the best solution but I'm open to suggestions. - Inexpensive - Fun for the whole family (wife & children) - Average or better golf courses Please tell me what courses I should look for in each area or provide a link to golf vacation packages. Thanks for your help.
  15. Where in the control panel can I keep track of my reputation level?
  16. Can you confirm that the above statement is correct? I started with 10 and had all 10 points taken away? I couldn't find any record of it in the control panel. Thank you.
  17. As a single golfer on my home course I was paired with a few other golfers that played pretty well. At the end of the round we exchanged phone numbers for future rounds. I received a phone call and took them up on the offer to play their home course. On the first tee they told me "You know this is a money game, right?" As an average golfer I was 99% sure I was getting hustled. Once they saw my reaction they told me it was $.25 per hole - teams. So far that is the story of my "big money" game. ipark - I'm not paying taxes on my winnings either!
  18. I can't wait until I hate playing on the weekends. For some reason my boss wants me in the office during the week so I don't have much of a choice.
  19. Wow. I can't believe that I have ignored my frequent golf partners cheating so much that I forgot it was cheating. He marks his ball in front of the ball (with a casual drop, not in any specific spot) and then replaces the ball in front of the mark. I called him on it after about 3 rounds of watching him inch closer to the hole and he didn't think it was cheating. His response was "It helps me get a closer putt" and he was wondering why everyone wouldn't do it. ... He was in gifted classes.
  20. A couple of years ago I played with a guy that threw the ball on the green. The best part is he wasn't in a bunker. He may have had a bad lie, I don't know, but he was maybe 10 feet off the green. It was the 18th hole and we weren't playing for money so I just let it go. It always makes me laugh when I think back and remember seeing that throw. Another guy I used to play in a lot of best ball scrambles with would always drive the ball far enough to win the long drive contests. If he hit the fairways he was going to win. Every time he hit the fairway we would take our 2nd shots, then he would move the long drive marker about 2-3 yards further than where we hit our 2nd shots. Noone from the other teams ever noticed there was no divits where the marker was placed. He would proudly take the prize every time...
  21. As long as my score doesn't start with a 5 I would rather play 9 holes than watch golf on TV.
  22. Thanks for your help. I think the weight shift could be the problem. I have found problems in my weight shift lately. I have been working on it. I also found that if I stand 1/2 inch closer to the ball I am hitting a much more solid shot. I have gotten into the groove of where to stand so it feels really uncomfortable moving that little bit closer, but the results are much better. I am going to keep working on that and the weight shift and see if that fixes the problems. Thank you again for your help.
  23. That isn't the first time someone said they keep 4 tees in their pocket. Is this common? I keep 1 tee in my pocket. I will use broken tees I find on the tee box for par 3's, but I keep those on the tee box when I'm done with that hole.
  24. I do the opposite. Everytime I play poorly with an outfit I make sure I use the same shirt as soon as possible to prove to myself it's not the clothing.
  25. I played the Denver Omni, which had some great elevation changes. I can't even imagine a course in Vail. Everytime I'm in the Vail area it is full of snow and I find myself paying the highest price in the world for a lift ticket. I played Whirlpool in Niagra Falls (Canadian side) which was a great experience. The CPGA was going to play there 2 or 3 days after I played it so the rough was up high and the course was in perfect condition. I played horrible but still had a great time. The wind on certain holes could have easily been mistaken for a hurricane.
