  1. Hello! I’ve started to listen to the GolfIQ podcast which is an instructional podcast which is really interesting. Wondering what other golf / golf related podcasts people are listening to.
  2. I prefer a solid color ball whether it’s white or another color as long as it’s not “blinding” when I’m over it. Simple alignment line is all I need for putting.
  3. I’ve been playing ProV1 this year. Started with them in my simulator and now I’m worried about changing to another ball when I’m outside. I’d like to try the Bridgestone TourBRX because my driver swing speed is around 90.
  4. Okay all. I think this all started during the discussion about “Is there any non anecdotalAimPoint data” and I raised Broadie’s conclusions. @Alfonso in that thread your answer to me was simply “No, no, no, no no. Putting is still and always will be king. There's just no question. A hot putter trumps all...”
  5. @StuM thanks for the link! In reading Broadie’s book I picked up a few key takeaways for my game. Putting contributes to 15% of strokes gained. I am striving for 100% within 5 feet where the PGA average is 1.23 putts / 77% probability. I also don’t beat myself up for putts over 8 feet where the one putt probability is 50% Driving contributes 28%. So now my practice routine has one day marked out just for driver and 3W off the tee. As we’ve all seen it’s the minor incremental improvements that hold up over the long run lead to better scores.
  6. Just piling on with “Team No”. Practicing on the sim can help you to a certain degree but it won’t reflect the reality of live outdoor play. I just played my first outdoor round and completely forgot that wind above the tree line can affect your ball path. (I had to chuckle with that). On top of the environment being way different there is also the psychological aspect of the game. Playing a course on a simulator is like saying you rode the Tour de France on your indoor bike.
  7. @xrayvizhen thanks for your thoughts. On fittings I’ve had experiences at both Club Champion and at Golftec. I didn’t place an order with Club Champion because I felt like it was just a sales job. At Golftec I did order new irons and wedges with shafts. But with Golftec two things I did differently. First, I was very clear up front about how much I was willing to spend, so part combinations were easier to work through. Second, when the fitter couldn’t find a driver / woods I could hit better than my current ones he didn’t try to sell me on something. He even invited me back for a second fitting and still couldn’t do better. Absolutely no regrets and I think the right shaft can make a huge difference. I might try to find a demo day for Titleist and Callaway and start there.
  8. @Vinsk I didn’t know this thread existed. Just finished reading this book last month. Such a great read and helped me to manage expectations and focus on where I should practice
  9. @Alfonso I really urge you to read Every Shot Counts if you haven’t already. Broadie uses actual data from the PGA ShotLink and explains how Strokes Gained was developed and the impact of each shot. He specifically discusses putting vs driving. Long story short and a very simple illustration. But would you rather be 100 yards away or 50 yards away on your approach shot? If you are only 50 yards away your ability to place the ball on the green and have a great putt generates more strokes gained than if you’re 100 yards away on the approach. This of course backs into a longer drive generates a better approach shot etc.
  10. Thanks @Vinsk fittings are always tough because there’s always sales pressure behind it. When I went to Golftec I was clear on a price range / club when we started. So it was a much easier fitting. The shafts are the secret sauce!
  11. Hello! About a year ago I had a GolfTec fitting for Irons / Woods — highly recommend this by the way. Anyway, I replaced my irons and wedges and they’re playing awesome. Interestingly, we couldn’t find a driver that could perform better than my current Callaway XRS set. So I’m still playing XRS woods and hybrids. I’m not trying to burn a hole in my pocket but I’m seriously debating going for another driver fitting — or has anyone had success at PGA Superstore or someplace similar? TIA
  12. @jshots I think this is more about what part of your game needs more help? I just finished reading “Every Shot Counts” and there is a ton of data and comparison that puts to rest the old “drive for show putt for dough” adage. Anyway, if it were me I’d be comparing how another 10-15 yards (conservative?) off the tee would benefit my game vs my average number of putts / round.
  13. Thanks @klineka If I can raise my driver speed 5mph (from 90-95) and maintain it, that would be huge for my game
  14. I try to carry a dozen balls when I start a round. I don’t plan to lose a lot of balls. But it’s fair to say I’ll lose at least 2-3 on water approach shots or deep rough. When I play during the week if the course is quiet if I lose a ball into the water I’ll take a few practice shots from the same area to work on things (very Tin Cup). I start each season with four dozen, and I usually have balls leftover. Hah

  16. Hello! Newbie to the group and I’ve read through this thread about the Stack System. I’m thinking of pulling the trigger on the Stack and a PRGR radar. Would appreciate thoughts from the folks here on two things. Is the PRGR a good fit for the Stack? Has anyone seen long term speed / distance increases? Right now my driver speed average 88 and distance is 190 carry / 210 total. Thanks in advance!
  17. Thank you Vinsk Thank you Denny
  18. Hello all. Lifelong golfer here who finally has time to focus on the game. Looking forward to learning and sharing with this group!
