  1. I play A7's and I like them a lot. I absolutely love the 5 iron-crossover.
  2. Why is golf the only sport that seems to get this instant replay stuff wrong?
  3. To put it simply, I believe that "reporting the incident quickly" would be more-so in a matter of minutes rather than multiple hours. I don't believe this to be a realistic desire, which is why I don't support the T.V. viewer to announce infractions. If such a "hotline" could be introduced (which I don't believe it reasonable to do so) then I'd support this. Until T.V. viewers will be able to make their voices heard as quickly (or reasonably close) as an on-the-course spectator, I simply don't think it's a good idea. But, like it has been alluded to earlier in this thread, there are very few infractions at all throughout an entire season, so this is really not that big a deal. Camillo won't be losing any sleep over it, and I think I'm going to move on from the discussion myself.
  4. I never said he wasn't in the wrong. How many times do people have to tell you this? We all agree what Camilo did was wrong. What we are discussing right now is whether or not viewers at home should be able to call in penalties. No number of silly analogies are going to change that. Efficiency has everything to do with this issue. Would it be okay for a rules official, who could perhaps have money on the game, to observe a player commit an infraction and not alert him immediately? Are you saying that it is okay for this official to wait until after Camilo signs his card to announce his infraction, thus turning his 2 stroke penalty into a DQ? There's also no guarantee that the viewers are going to catch every single infraction either. Where do you draw the line? Once again you bring up another off-the-wall analogy. All you did was say that I want to "let known rules violations remain unpunished" and "that's stupid." I don't want to let known rule violations go unpunished, I simply want the punishment to occur in a timely manner. Once again, I'll simply refer to a rules official waiting for the player to turn in their card before the infraction is announced.
  5. If calling in infractions has worked so flawlessly for these many years, why was Villegas not made aware of the situation before he turned in the scorecard? You keep saying that it is sad that this many of us voted "no." It's not like we support cheating and unfair play, we simply do not see the audience calling in infractions as being efficient enough. If having the audience call in infractions worked as well as you are making it out, then Villegas would have been immediately made aware of his penalty and he would not have been DQ'd. The solution to have a dedicated official view the live broadcast satisfies both parties. Whatever infractions the audience would have called in would be noted by this official(s) and he or she would have direct contact with the field to make the culprit known of their infraction.
  6. Best of luck to you, but just realize you're going to need a lot thicker skin than what you have now. Focus on the 50 meter target before you try to hit the 300.
  7. A jack of all trades is a master of none. I'm sure Phone GPS's work okay, but the courses I play at all have issues with cell phone reception. I recently purchased a Callaway uPro refurbished for $109. Like others have said, the ability to hit to within a yard of the pin is not an ability we (especially myself) have as golfers. That is something the professionals do. My GPS lets me know everything I could care to know, and quickly, as well. Just a glance down and I'm good to go.
  8. I've never had any formal lessons nor have I ever had anyone give me any advice on my swing. I appreciate the feedback. I am apparently far more ignorant of the fundamentals than I thought I was. I've honestly never even thought about changing my grip before, or have ever looked up what a proper grip looks like. I will definitely take a look to see if I need to fix that. Tomorrow I am going to go to the range and probably play a round and will let you know if any of these help me out. I'm open to any and all suggestions. I really want to make an effort to begin to play this game correctly. I'm really comfortable >130 yards. Anything outside of that, I'm afraid, begins to require a half-way decent swing to get anything accomplished.
  9. The same to you :). Welcome!

22... been playing a couple years now.
  11. Looks like the Braves are going to have their work cut out for them. My girlfriend is a Philly fan and I will never hear the end of it... (I'm a Braves fan).
  12. Welcome to the site! I grew up in Florida and my grandparents currently reside in Pensacola. Beautiful state :)
  13. Hello everybody. I've been golfing for a little over two years, but have decided to begin to take it more seriously (as in, a desire to improve... I'm still playing only for enjoyment). I would guesstimate that I am somewhere around a 19-20 handicap. I regularly break 90 on my course which is a 69.1/119 (not a very difficult course, I know). I want to start working my way down to the mid and lower 80's with a goal to break 80 one day (no time soon, I am aware). For the past two weeks I have been struggling to fix a major slice I have with my driver. It's probably my biggest concern. I will usually start out left of the target and then slice painfully hard (at least 50 yards right of the target every time). My irons are, for the most part, fairly straight but do not get much distance (my 6 iron goes probably about 147). I apologize for the quality of the videos. I plan on getting a better camera in the future, but I thought I would try this one out. Thank you in advance for any advice and criticism. I was not aware my swing was so ugly until I made this video... I feel bad for my friend that has to regularly watch this! (EDIT: I forgot to include the video.)
  14. Great advice. I check craigslist fairly religiously just in case someone is trying to get rid of some nice clubs for cheap. I would highly recommend doing so. That is how I got my current set of Irons for much, much less than I would have paid new.
  15. I played with the Topflite XL 15 piece set as my introductory set of clubs. The irons are actually quite good (including the hybrids). The 3 wood, however, was atrocious. The driver was so-so and the putter was just something I didn't like. I replaced the driver and putter fairly quickly and, for the most part, simply didn't ever use my 3 wood because I believed I couldn't hit woods. I finally came around and bought a new wood (a 4 wood, actually) and have come to not mind hitting woods at all. I wouldn't pay more than 200 for the topflite complete set. I got my set from walmart for about 198 I believe, a little over a year ago. It's a great starter set and, who knows, maybe you will like the clubs most others detest.
