  1. I think you are missing what is actually meant. Keep your head back! not your weight. Theirs a million swingvision vids on youtube of people driving the ball and they all have their head behind the ball. I think its this position that the videos are promoting. Theirs no argument when it come to getting weight forward being vital. but I think what these videos address is address. Touche So many people set up aimed at the target not parallel and then proceed to open their shoulders as they move the driver up to the ball. They then swing and move their head forward while sliding and not rotating. Nothing good ever happens when this is done. Unless of course you are after a massive push slice. I think what these videos address is that and it's a big problem for a lot of people. That bring it back to the original topic are these videos any good. I think so, even so much as to say they are batter than most at addressing the problem of a slice.
  2. Even though they infer these problems they also improve so much more. They are extreemly good videos IMO. Most high handicappers including myself suffer from the problem of addressing the ball with open shoulders and these videos address these problems. Also better hit the ball on the upswing than slice it OB. Actually most people would be better off hitting the ball on the up swing because they will get more speed from releasing the club properly.
  3. I agree with that 100% especially for the long putts. It's really important to take a real good look at your line and how you think it's going to break but once you see it you can just hit it..! Sometimes my playing partners look at me funny because they think I am not taking as much care with my putts as I am but the truth is I have hit a 1000s of long putts probably more than any other shot in golf. My aim is to land it within 3 ft of the hole that makes the hole 6 ft wide ..!!! How can I miss ?? I always practice 3 ft putts before a round maybe 15 or 20 of them just to get the confidence up. When I get into makeable range I use a hybrid stockton/something else style. - read putt concentrating especially on last third of the putt since this is where the break will effect the ball more as it is moving more slowly - aim line on ball to putt line(this may not be final line adjustments can be made while addressing the ball but it ensures you have a certain point of reference) - practice swing behind ball looking forward towards the hole, concentrating only on the weight of the putter and not the putting stroke itself - address ball, turn head from address position looking fully along the intended line until reach the hole(use imagination to see the ball rolling over this line) - look at the ball and then one final look at the hole. I take a mental picture of the hole as reference in my mind.(Tiger Woods advice) - intensely fix my eyes on the ball, relax grip, make my stroke This sound like a lot of work to make a putt but in fact I do this in a matter of seconds. If I was going to sum this putting method up I would use the words .. visualization and imagination .. Thats the key to good putting IMO.
  4. Thanks guys. I'm thinking that my mental game is very poor at the moment too. My erratic ball flight over the last few weeks has just left me standing over every shot thinking "ok where too this time". I was also wondering if maybe I'm after making too many changes at once.? While I'm confident that all the changes were necessary maybe I just can't make so many adjustments in such a short period of time. Problem is it's like a chain reaction if I keep my spine angle and take the club back on the inside it negates the benefit of working so hard on my posture. And that continues through all parts of the swing, I need it all working and not just one part :( I'm pretty sick of quick fix's for most problems too. Realization over the last couple of months that most high handicapper swings have a lot of problems and then a quick look at my own left me amazed. At first glance everything looked ok but upon closer inspection I realized my body was wilting like flower with no light. Anyway I'm off to play a few holes see if I can pick up my game. Thanks for the comments guys.
  5. Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone has some advice on what I am currently finding the hardest part of my golf game this season. I have currently addressed a lot of problems in my swing. I started with posture earlier this year and then it has snow balled into a lot of adjustments. These include grip, alignment , wrist cock and release , shoulder pitch and most recently I have adjusted because I was taking the club back on the inside. At the range I follow a check list to ensure I am in the correct positions and my success rate is currently brilliant. 85% of my range shots are exactly as I want as of the last few weeks. I almost makes the range time feel a waste of time. Even on the course when I go to play 9 with my girlfriend in the evening everything works a treat. The problem is when I am on the score card or when the wind picks up. As soon as I have any pressure the cracks start to appear. It happens instantly my swing gos back to inside inside with an open face no lag and bad posture, poping up with about 5 swing planes . I know exactly where its coming from as I have played the game for the last two years extensively during the season. 4+ rounds a weeks. These bad habits are obviously really ingrained. I'm not sure how to address the problem. Is it a case of just keep playing and trying. I feel as if 50% of my drives are going well on the course and the others I just revert back to my push slice. Am I by continuing playing keeping my old bad habits alive by playing with them. Is their a technique to deal with this? Has anyone experienced transition periods during swing changes that felt really bad only to emerge the far side the better player. I have shot below 80 a few times with my old swing. But more realistically a mid 80s shooter. My swing now as it looks a technically better action. But my scores are no where near the highs of last season. I always believed you have to get worse to get better in regards to golf but my positive mentality is taking a bit of a bettering at the moment .
  6. What really causes a slice? Obviously both open club face and swing path. I though the question was what most commonly causes a slice. To which I would answer 90+ shooters both with swing path being the main culprit and below 90 players open club face being the major problem.
  7. I with the above poster in regard to not loosing heart. Sometimes you have to get worse to get better. Sometimes changes don't feel right or make it hard to even hit the ball but if a technique is right it is worth sticking with as it will eventually pay off. A golf swing is like the rabbit hole in Alice in Wonderland. the further you look into it the more you find. This is what makes the game great IMO but can also be a little frustrating, but it really makes they payoff brilliant when it all comes together. "Nothing worth having comes easy" is a good description of golf skills. Best of luck
  8. I have been teaching my girlfriend for the past few months and she really annoys me. She picks it up so quick I just tell her to do something and a few balls later she is doing it no problem.Guess thats the benefit of not building up two years of bad habits. Its great at the range, sometimes she picks up my driver and starts hitting big ones down the range and all the guys hitting balls start to get self conscious thats she is hitting them further. The only thing holding her back is that she only really likes to golf once a week, either a trip to the range or a few holes in the evening. Do you have this problem with your wife? It seems to me that women are generally less competitive than men so they don't get as motivated to be as good. If I could get her motivated I reckon she could easily break 90. She hits it long and straight it's just her short game is not good usually 3 or 4 shots to tidy it up. Which is not good when she has it up around the green in two. I think only playing a few holes a week is not enough to develop a good short game Very good impact position must say. Impressive :)
  9. Hi guys Recently I was struggeling with a open club face at impact and I have traced it back to a cupped wrist at the top. Actually it was not just a cupped wrist I was also not releasing the wrist cock properly either. This really led me to a contrived position at impact in an effort to get it square, I rarely got it square though and have played quite a while with a almost controlable fade. Luckily I have identified the problem and I am trying to correct this. I have hit some really good shots recently, not that I have been driving them 300 yards or even sticking them to the pin but they have been effortless and really pure. Actually so much so that I could say nearly a club longer with my irons. It seems that releasing wrist cock at the right time and keeping a flat wrist at the top naturally squares the club face and adds speed effortlessly. My problem is the flat wrist at the top it really feels so contrived. It feels really uncomfortable and I also think its effecting my swing plane (making it more upright) . It seems I can only perform a limited amount of shots on the course (about 6 holes) before I start slipping back into the more comfortable hinged position. I'm actually really confused about what I should do or how I should go about sorting this problem. Has anyone encountered this? Or has anyone some drills to help? Is it possible to play with a hinged wrist at the top and release it properly..? Are the two linked? I really wish I know about wrist cock and release along time ago. It would probably have saved me a lot of range time TBH. I feel as if I was trying to use wrist hinge to generate power since the beginning. I don't think its intuitive that speed is generated from cocking the wrist. :( Thanks
  10. 26000000 people or more play golf worldwide if 1 in 100 could carry 300 yards with a driver that would mean 260000 people can. So when one turns up on a popular golf website their is no logical reason for you to be so sceptical. I played with a 9 Hc their other day and he totaled 330 meters with one drive.Thats 360 yards, its not that unheard of .. Although still pretty amazing
  11. Hi Chad I have the same problem. Its a terrible problem for me. Its really stopping me in my tracks in regards to progress this year. I was actually going to post a thread asking for help also. I though I had the problem licked when I stopped swinging over the top. The thing is when I get to impact with my driver my left hand turns skywards which opens the face and causes a big slice. Whats especially annoying is that once I switch to my 18* hybrid I hit it straight or with a slight draw. I'm not sure why I do this....... I have a neutral grip with a decent swing plane . I sometimes over swing. In regards to the cupped wrist idea I actually have a slightly cupped wrist at the top, this could translate into open face at impact but I would imagine it would effect all my clubs then. I am interested to see what advice you get as maybe it might help me too.
  12. Hi everyone Dose anyone know what the swing weight of my G15 9* would be if a cut 1.75" off it. Its the 149 stock shaft (stiff). And any problems I might encounter if I do. Played a few shots with a loaned driver today and it was about 2 inch's shorter than mine and if was far easier to control. I'm 5 10 and the loaned driver was off a guy that was 6 2. I love my g15 and would like to keep a similar swing weight and I was wondering if their was a way of doing this without a full re shaft. Thanks
  13. Hi everyone Has anyone ever used a laid off transition to sort out a cupped wrist. I think I do this naturally with my irons but have been fighting a fade/slice with my driver and can't seem to get the clubface square. I am not coming over the top but do have a cupped wrist at the top so it's the first obvious place to look. The motion would be described as go to the top of the backswing as usual(for me with a cupped wrist) and then as the downswing starts flatten the cupped wrist out and tuck the right arm in. I presume this would also help me drop the club into a inside out plane also. I see Hogan laid off in his swing and tucked his elbow in and his swing is a thing of beauty so I'm thinking about giving it a go. He also had a cupped wrist at the top. Just wondering if anyone has tried this or has any opinion. Just to add that a flat wrist is kinda out of the question for me . Im not very comfortable with and find it very hard to get used to.
  14. Ok so thats it ye guys are definitely right .. To be honest I think i should have had more cop on when I was buying my driver. I see it posted up here all the time, people giving people advice and saying that getting fitted is the way to go.Always felt i was going to be working on something so my swing would be changing and it would waste of money. Anyway considering I spend so much time trying to learn how to use it i should have paid more attention what i was getting and not just reading reviews ect... Im going to give these guys a shout asap www.foregolf.ie . Won World Clubmaker of the year award this year. Sounds pretty impressive and fitting only 50e so.. Il post up here after i get it done let ye know how i get on. Thanks guys
  15. Hi stretch . The shaft on the G15 is the stock TFC 149 stiff.Im not sure what my swing speed is with my driver actually is but i would imagine its above average at the moment as iv been working out the last few months so im as strong as iv ever been and im really letting the club go (been working on my release alot). In regard to the ball flight between the two clubs they are actually quite similar but the driver is not near as consistant shape wise with the occasional hook. My driver gos slightly higher . My recovery is really predictable with a 0/10y draw (same as my other long irons). Im not sure how else to describe the ball flights.
  16. Some good replies here thanks guys. 1st thing is you might be onto something here sweetswing. Maybe the driver is not the one for me i didn't get custom fitted and going on what was about at the time (probably what was hyped more) i just tried R9 and the G15 and decided to go with the G15. minger I really never took into consideration the lie angle's of drivers but now that i think about it i do often notice other golfers looking strange at set up because the driver dose not lie level. Also my irons are standard and they really do seem to lie properly so i presumed that i would be standard with a driver. Its starting to become apparent that its not working out like that. Im 5 11 and my wrist to floor standing up straight is only 33" im not sure where that leaves me but im using the stock G15 shaft so im guessing it probably too long.?? Just about the swinging smooth sweetswing.I actually feel that my recovery swing is a lot smoother than my driver swing.I do swing fast and more powerfully but iv really been working on balance and legwork, that combined with a shorter backswing (i was over swinging a mile) makes it really consistent for me. Its almost as if because i loose control with my driver i have to make so many adjustments im barley moving when i hit the ball and with so many contrived body positions that its very inconsistent.(edit; also iv taped it up to check if im hitting the sweet spot and the marks are all over the place, im pretty consistent with all my other clubs) Anyway 33" wrist to floor i know its hard to say for sure but in your opinion too long a shaft at 45,75". Thanks for the help
  17. Hi everyone A snowy sub zero week in Ireland so no golf for me this week, even the range is closed so im just going to query something thats been troubling me since i stopped playing and started spending most of my time at the range. Its really annoying for me but the distance between my recovery and driver is after getting increasingly small since iv started back working on my swing this autumn. My driver is somewhat inconsistent to say the least. My stats from the summer show about average 4/5 fairways per round.I use a G15 9* Stiff. My usual distance at the range is about 230y. My recovery is a Bay Hill 3i model of some description thats i quite a few years old and it is also reg flex.My problem is that i hit this usually about 210/220y.I really doubt that this club was ever top of a list technology wise but it really flies for me. My recent swing changes (a long list) include improved posture and really loading up on my back foot before releasing onto a really planted front foot.I have found this has improved my power immensely but the change that i think has made the most difference if in my hands i now release like crazy with no resistance anywhere.I hold the club very gently and let the grips and gloves do their work.My club head speed has really increased thats for sure. So anyway im nailing this distance problem back to me not being in control of my driver and having to manipulate somewhat so i cant release as much as i do with other clubs. My driver inconsistency is really the problem. The thing is my driver is 5" longer that my recovery but only a few yards longer at the other end.So what im really wondering is has anyone ever successfully shortened a driver for control so they could swing harder? I would imagine that if i put the same swing on the driver as i do the recovery the technology of G15 head would lead to it going further that the recovery head ? Ok so this a long post so i will leave it at that im sure you can understand what im getting at..
  18. Kim is pure awesome. Him and mcilroy gonna have some serious battles over the next few years. Kim is a pure feel player also!! he just sees the pin and sticks it to it with not alot of analytical thought involved. Could imagine with that type of approach any injury would cause problems. not being able to analyse and play through pain ect. check this out off youtube pretty cool this just part 1 so ..
  19. Square or open towards target? Im kinda confused at the moment as iv been trying to disect my swing and some some problems. Driver is still an issue for me even after some quick fixs problems start appearing when im under pressure or playing on a course im not familiar with. Im coming slightly over the top and ending up with clubface open at impact. As i work back from my grip through my body and the sequence it seems that my hands are ahead of the ball at impact and my shoulder open to the target this seems to cause me to open the clubface.Since iv noticed this Iv been working on getting my shoulders back nearly to the address position and its been working ok so far with some improvments. I was just wondering where your shoulders should be at impact? dose it vary from player to player? Also this my open shoulders seems to work quite well with my irons even long ones but not with my driver.? dose this make sence? iacas if you by any chance come on to this thread iv noticed you seem yo have alot of pics of players in the impact position maybe you could put a few up here so i can have a look. not that easy find images of dtl impact position with google.any help would be appreciated
  20. yeah it dose. i ill make it wider im going hitting a few this evening so i ill try get used to having it a bit wider maybe 3 or 4 inchs ?? also my posture dose not look great. I always though it was better but seeing it on video it dose not look great. sliceing is obviously my problem so im finding it hard to get an in to out path so i was thinking maybe if a get better posture this would help. it really dose not feel right when i get more angle on my spine :( but it looks like that would help ?? any more thought would be great .. thanks
  21. ooops did not read the thread rules should have put my name in the title sorry :(
  22. hi everyone, was hitting a few balls this evening at the range. irons going great draw fade straight no problem. but just could not hit my diver i mean it was so bad i was ashamed. anyway im after loading up some video so maybe ye could take a look and see if you spot anything besides my terrible posture ect. really though i would really appreciate any help or advice you guys can give. please excuse the quality and i was messing with my gf at the end sorry.
  23. a friend of mine switched a few months ago and it really helped him improve. keeps the clubface square at impact too. he is a little worse at long putts now and alot better at short ones. so he misses the long ones by a foot or two more now but holes nearly everything he reads rights inside 8. the stroke never lets him down.
  24. anyone know any good ones ? i keep putting my weight forward on the backswing and then leaving it their all the way through.(half a reverse pivot) i have to concentrate really hard not to so im looking for some good ones so it becomes natural and i can free up my thoughts and concentrate on the sweet feeling at impact also what are the pros and cons of haveing a weak vs strong grip and could someone define a neutral grip exactly ? 2 knuckles oif its or 2 1/2 or ?? also how about my right hand .. it was windy today so i took a strong grip woth a couple of 4 and 5 irons and i really liked the flight but i dont know if it would be ok for normal conditions..
