  1. I played in a fraternity scramble and as a rule they had all pledges have to play with their underwear outside of their shorts if they didn't hit it past the ladies tees...I know juvenile...BUT(t)...lo and behold the pledge in my group does said deed and proceeds to do the underwear flip and ended up playing the rest of the hole with tidy whities PLUS a nice skid mark for all of us to see...
  2. I need all the forgiveness I can get since I have more margin of error in my swing. My misses are less off line with the game improvement irons. A better player will almost always trump me regardless of what irons he/she has...I played with guy about a month ago and he had an old set of Titliest blades that must have been at least 10 yrs old and a driver the size of a 3wood head and he still wumped me. His swing was just better and more consistent than mine... The only reason he said he would change his set is to increase his overall distance, but since he wasn't pro material and his discretionary cash was limited he was not motivated to do so...a player is a player no matter what club they have in their hands.
  3. I also have to add the sound of impact is important to me personally, that is why I chose the SuperQuad and HiBore XL. In the end, it really is a matter of the individual's taste. The only thing I would ever recommend is get properly fitted for your swing...An hour of fitting by someone who knows what they are talking about can save you some money in the long run...Good luck.
  4. +1 on the hard case advice...I travel to the Philippines at least twice a year and when I didn't have second bag there I used to lug a carry case with me. You wouldn't believe the abuse luggage gets and a hard case definitely helps. I haven't had any trouble with lost golf bags, but I didn't want to push my luck so I ended up getting a second set to leave there.
  5. They must I get a kick at some of the stuff they read...Hell, I do...
  6. My wife is like yours and drives a car till it dies...However, I'm going to get a 07 MY later early fall before the 08 MY comes out. Lexus has a display of cars in our local upscale mall in Tampa (International Mall) and she sat in the IS350 and it locked the deal for her... PS sorry I attached wrong quote, but I appreciate advice.
  7. Just heads up on a new cigar I tried that was really well made and a good smoke...Cuban Imports Exile (maduro wrap/robusto)...medium to full bodied...good draw...so far all the sticks I've smoked burned evenly. It's made in Nicaragua...
  8. Just keep at it and have fun...I'm the last person to tell you to get a lesson, because my swing is pretty much home spun, but it helps some folks starting out to learn the basics right out of the box. As far as leaving it short, when I first started I couldn't hit a wedge, so I just would hit a bump and run shot (if the front of the green is clear) from 50 yds in...I had more luck with that than a conventional wedge shot. However, I started playing courses with protected greens (i.e. water and sand), so I had to learn to hit a wedge. Good luck and keep at it...its a game that will provide endless hours of fun with friends and something you can play your whole life...
  9. Wrong forum category? Spam?
  10. Give me my NFL ticket, DVR (perpetual replays), picture in picture, and my HD plasma TV anytime.
  11. I was playing a twilight 9 holer the other day with a Japanese gentlemen that met on the course and he was playing a Precept ball #33 that seem to be "see through" or somewhat translucent. First time I've seen it and Hoki (or that is what I thought he said) spoke no english for me to ask him. Anybody seen a ball like this? It looked interesting and he seemed to hit it pretty long.
  12. Go Lightning...It's a shame that the NHL has not done a better job in marketing hockey...It truly is a game that you have to see in person or have the abiity to see it on HDTV. Watching hockey in HD really turned me onto the game.
  13. It's just amazing how matter of fact they are when they shape their shots, gauge their yardages...I guess natural ability and a couple thousand practice balls month can help!
  14. You know it might be a good idea to have a sticky thread on field reports on courses we play for people who might be vacationing or happen to be in the area...I'd like to get some inside scoop on course layout, course condition, tee time availability, green fees, pace of play, customer service, etc...Sometimes course websites are misleading... It'd be a good resource to have and having it as a sticky would make it easy to find on the subforum.
  15. I liked them...they felt a little harder off the putter and not as long or soft as the ProV1's. They do seem to come off my clubs (lower irons) at a lot lower trajectory. For a 3 piece ball and at that price, you don't give up too much. It is what it is...a good mid priced 3 piece performance ball.
  16. The locals pronounced it "Chew-raw", whilst my asian arse made do with Shuhraw. Local lore had the area full of indians "chewing raw" meat...I have no idea if that was true or not...time to google...
  17. Wow...Academy Live was cancelled? Gulbis show was eyecandy for me...
  18. The Fighting Cheraw Braves (not very politically correct, but that was the 80's)...best high school memories...cruising Sonic after a Friday night football game with my girl and heading to the woods and jumping into the backseat...
  19. Try a bump and run shot instead of a 3/4 lob if the front of the green is clear. The margin of error is pretty high on 3/4 lob especially on tight lies, which is all I seem to have here in Florida right now. It's not necessarily a pretty shot but it gets the job done. On a the 380 par 4 like the one you mentioned above, I'm now hitting my Cleveland Halo 1i (esp when the course is tree lined) and leaving myself around 150-160 yds. Like you, I'd rather score than be the longest off the tee.
  20. Yeah...Rocco was cool and it seems his personality on the course is pretty much the same off the course.
  21. Money no object - ProV1x (the new ball is more scuff resilient) Money an issue - Bridgestone E6 or Practice/Blemish ProV1x's
  22. You folks still in high school...enjoy it because it will (should be) be the most carefree time you will ever have. No mortgage, no school loans, etc... However, the closest friends I have were actually my college friends rather than my HS friends...go figure!
  23. My R7SQ is the regular one and I ordered the extra weights online...
  24. I love mine. I have it set at neutral, but exchanged the 1gm weights. I moved the 12gm weights to the 1gm position and bought 14gm weights and placed them where the 12gm weights used to be. I'm not necessarily longer but it takes less effort to get the distance I normally would get from my old Hibore.
  25. I think you might be talking about the Callaway Approach show...I think the personalities on the show (the retired pro/the stats guy/Inga Hammond-host) are somewhat forced. Trying to be too funny and argumentative, which makes them irritating to me...my 2 cents.
