Cant find anywhere in my area that has BOTH sets at the same time to hit side by side, I really like that the r9's dont have the added shaft length as I am only 5'10.

I am coming from a set of 695 cb blades that I love I just have lost my consistency and need something a little more forgiving. I enjoy looking down at a more compact head but need a nice forgiving club. is the r9 a good compromise or should I lean more towards the burners? I like the idea of getting a forgiving club that looks like a blade but dont know if that is truly possible.

I seemed to hit the R9's better but Ithink that was a product of the extra shaft length, if I had them cut down to proper length, or bent the heads out then what would I really see as the main differences between the two?

Thanks in advance, any help is a plus!!!!

Did you get a chance to hit the new Callaway Diablo forged irons?
It has the look of a player's iron at address(smaller face, minimal offset, thinner top line), but the forgiveness is just amazing. It's almost like hitting a GI iron.
I'm sure you'll like the forgiveness of those clubs.
Only thing is, it's pricey($999) and has horrible graphics.

I own the Burners and an R9 6 iron too. I like the R9 better. The Burners have done the opposite of what I had hoped. I expected them to pretty much even out shots that are struck well vs shots that are not so I would have more consistent distances. Instead I am having a 30 yard difference with my 7 iron between a typical swing and a pure strike. Yesterday I flew four or five greens because I hit the ball well. I would hope the R9 would not do that, I think the Burner's multiplicity of tricks to make the ball fly end up making them difficult to predict. I talked to a young man on a tee box yesterday who was hitting the Burner Tours and he was seeing the same problem. I think I wish I had the R9s. (grass is always greener.)

My advice, for what it's worth: get fitted for your irons. Whether you go with the Burners or the R9's, proper fitting irons will make a difference for you. Oh, and you can't go wrong with TaylorMade!

I definitely plan on getting fitted! One of my issues, that i guess ill never know for myself is whether the extra length that comes stock on the tour burners is one of the reasons why I dont like it quite as much. It doesnt make much sense to buy the set you dont hit as well then get them fitted only to find out you still dont hit them as well. Guess the r9's are it! Now just have to sell my other set :)

    • I honestly believe if they play longer tees by 300-400 yards, closer to or over 7,000 yards, more rough, tougher greens, women's golf will become much more gripping.  BTW, if it weren't for Scottie killing it right now, men's golf isn't exactly compelling.
    • Day 542, April 26, 2024 A lesson no-show, no-called (he had the wrong time even though the last text was confirming the time… 😛), so I used 45 minutes or so of that time to get some good work in.
    • Yeah, that. It stands out… because it's so rare. And interest in Caitlin Clark will likely result in a very small bump to the WNBA or something… and then it will go back down to very low viewership numbers. Like it's always had. A small portion, yep. It doesn't help that she lost, either. Girls often don't even want to watch women playing sports. My daughter golfs… I watch more LPGA Tour golf than she does, and it's not even close. I watch more LPGA Tour golf than PGA Tour golf, even. She watches very little of either. It's just the way it is. Yes, it's a bit of a vicious cycle, but… how do you break it? If you invest a ton of money into broadcasting an LPGA Tour event, the same coverage you'd spend on a men's event… you'll lose a ton of money. It'd take decades to build up the interest. Even with interest in the PGA Tour declining.
    • Oh yea, now I remember reading about you on TMZ!
