I've been Playing Golf for: Officially the 28 of June this year, started with 54hcp. So 4 weeks. But I did hit balls on football/soccerfields in my youth. And played some 9-hole courses in my teens.

My current handicap index or average score is: Lowered myself again today so atm 24,8

My typical ball flight with the driver is: Straightish. 3 out of ten with a draw. 1 out of ten with a mean slice. 2-3 out of ten with a hook. And 3 out of 10 more or less straight.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Well being consistent to start with . I rather hit all fades or all draws. I have the swingspeed, but who cares if I can't rest it on the fairway.

I'm playing with a regular shaft, 10,5 loft. I hit my drives 230-270 yards, my farthest was 312 yards according to the coursemarkings with a perfect ballcontact 3 days ago, slight draw and alittle headwind (372 yards from the tee, ball rested 1-2 yards from the 60yards to center of green marking).
Maybe 10-25% FIR.
30% Outside Fairway but still very playable.
30% Out of Bounds or similar.
10% mishits (top, duff, not getting past the lady tea)
I know that changing to stiff won't fix all my problems, but can that eliminate the occasional hard hook?
I choke down in the driver so I can get a better contact more often.

What I see. Getting my shoulder more tilting/steeper angle so I dont move my head because of it. Getting my hips moving through the entire swing, now im pushing them forward in the beginning but att ballcontact they are almost at a standstill, don't move my hips backwards during the backswing.

I'm gonna post a video with my Iron swing also. There I have another shot I want to avoid, but that later.

Really really nice swing for only a month in the game!

The video camera moves a lot so you won't get much of an analysis here. The things I can see:

  • You move away from the ball with the body in the backswing (you can see this from frontview angle). This is really important, stay centered over the ball in the backswing with the head and then move hips forward and have the head staying still in the downswing.

  • Your shoulder should be on a steeper angle in the backswing like this.

  • The right leg should extend more so it just got little flex in it at the top of your backswing.

Aff didn't notice you mentioned most of the things I commented in that first post, well I guess it couldn't harm to read my post anyways.

Thank you, I wanted affirming that I am on the right track mentally on what I'm doing wrong. Gonna work on those two, keeping the center still on the backswing and getting a better angle on my shoulders.
Next time I will have the camera on a stand, making it easier to analyze.

Thank you Nevrino!
Much appreciated.

I went back to the course today. Worked on getting my shoulder in an better angle. This also helped keeping my head more centered than before. Also thinking about not moving backwards during the swing with my hips.
All shots was with the 9iron, was aiming at the gravelgreen 146yards ahead. All balls reached 140yards +/- 5 yards.

My typical ball flight with the iron is: Straight with a slight draw if any draw/fade.

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: A push/or blocked shot? The ball just goes straight right of the target.
It lessened when I got my shoulders at a better angle and
tried to keep my hands not to far infront of the ball/body.

My other question is, I get pretty decent clubspeed with what feels like minimum effort on the irons. Do I want to take this swing to my driver, or do I have to give it more juice when driving? I also have a problem with getting the angle on my shoulders with my driver (is it the longer shaft? I even shortened my shaft to 44,25")

Have a nice day all!

For me it looks like you are keeping your head down after impact. You should bring your head through with your right shoulder. Also try lifting your chin up a bit so your left shoulder can fit under your head and make a full rotation on the backswing without obstruction.

hope this helps, Alex

Yes I have been keeping my head longer than normal, because I was lifting it to fast earlier. Gonna find a middleground there. The tip about raising my chin is very good, cause as it was know I felt I was working with alot of weight over the ball to get my head clear of the shoulder. So that tip is gonna help me alot! I'll be back after working with that. Thank you Alex.

Good work on getting more tilt with your shoulders.  Don't listen about raising your chin.  Read thread about good golf posture... http://thesandtrap.com/t/56069/good-golf-posture

The problem isn't your head moving up lifting you up, but your left shoulder moving up too early on the downswing.  Try to feel like you are keeping your left shoulder down longer on the downswing.  What also helps is working on your leg work on the downswing.  Get more weight forward at impact by keeping flex longer in your left leg during the downswing.

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
