    St Andrews

My daughter attends the University of St Andrews. I took up golf three years ago... the day we returned from her campus visit. She fell in love, and immediately cancelled her other appointments. That town truly is a magical place.
  2. Obviously, not knowing every rule and deliberately cheating are two different things. But recognizing that you don't know all the rules, and then still choosing not to learn them before hitting the course again, can be the same thing as choosing not to follow them on purpose. I just took an online test at http://www.opengolf.com/en/TheCourse/Quiz.aspx and screwed up quite a few of the questions. Surprising and embarrassing. I thought I knew the rules of golf, but apparently only know the ones I encounter regularly. Try the test out... hope you do better than I did!

    St Andrews

Interestingly, a UK golf reporter for the Guardian didn't know much about St Andrews either. Tiger's practice today was in a lot of wind, causing this guy to write "and his tee-shot on the 11th, which ended up on the 7th green – that might have given him cause for concern..." The Old course has several large double greens, sharing both the out & back holes. The 7th and 11th holes share the same green . The report sounded a bit sensational, but the actual holes were probably only about 100 feet apart!
  4. Thank you! It's an honour to be invited. I'm really excited! Over the coming years, it will help increase the quality of our academics. And of course, I can't wait for a whole conference of cold weather hard-nosed football teams. londonhusker UK
  5. Greetings to all, My first meaningful post on this wonderful forum... First featured on "Coast", this gem can be found on South Uist. http://www.askernishgolfclub.com/ Pure links!
  6. I just began to play golf a few months ago, just after my daughter got accepted to the University of St Andrews. I practice at my local driving range and at a local chip and putt, but whenever I travel to Scotland to visit my daughter, I take a lesson with a pro, and play one of the easier St Andrews courses ( www.standrewslinksgolfacademy.com ). I hope to play on the Old Course before she graduates! Dave
  7. They are both magical, bigger than life. I will still lean towards Jack at this point. We will know what the numbers say in another ten years, but will numbers provide all the answers? For instance, who IS the greatest home run hitter... Henry Aaron or Barry Bonds? To both his advantage and disadvantage, Tiger still has a lot of career left to establish his place. Thank goodness we get him for many years to come. Dave
