Hi, I am a 5'1' lady, 115lbs and I am looking for new clubs, I have been using a set of beginner clubs, Ashley, Nancy Lopez and find that all of the time I am now pulling all my shots left. When I try a stiffer shaft that doesn't seem to happen, although I haven't tried too many yet. It of couse could be my swing!!!!! I tried my husbands GBB2 when I played with him last week and was really hitting it well reg shaft 200plus even as much as 230., and nicely in the fairway I also tried a hogan stiff shaft at the range and was hitting really well almost 200 with range balls carry only. Does this sound ridiculous? I am tempted to get a mans club but it seems crazy. and do you usually get the same shafts for irons as drivers? I am looking at poss getting the bb fusions or the X18 I am just concerned as I find them a little light, can't feel the heads. Thanks in advance sorry to be long winded.

I'm not a gal golfer, but the women I know that take the game seriously play with men's clubs, even if they are using regular shafts and have them cut down a tad. Many of the "ladies" sets are really intended for the senior lady with a slow swing speed and a poor swing - they're designed to get the ball up in the air with as much distance as possible - whippy shafts, tons of weight in the sole, lots of hybrids, added loft, etc.

Golf clubs are just tools. Don't think of them as "men's clubs" or "women's clubs" because, really, they are "golf clubs" and "golf clubs for women with really, really slow swing speed." And then there are junior clubs.

Pick a set of sticks you like and go with 'em. Any competent pro will be able to fit you.

I agree with Erik. I am 5'8" so I use men's clubs. You are little shorter than that, but if you got them cut down I think you would be fine. The one problem with cutting down clubs is that it can affect the loft of the club if you have to get too much taken off. Have you tried the clubs you like in the ladies version? Calloway makes great clubs for men and women. I would try those and see what you think. I am fairly tall and even I have a hard time hitting mens woods and drivers. They are just a little too long for me. Shop around, and like Erik said find a Pro who knows what they are doing.

Ok thankyou, I have tried womens drivers and really didn't do well with them, but the problem is that the only womens drivers that you can test locally always have a soft ladies shaft. so I will take your advice and go and get properly fitted, I have been putting off doing this as I really don't like hitting in a small enclosed space as it seems to really put my swing off, same with irons, ladies shafts. I think that I would prob have to have a custom set made up, for grip size, lie, length etc etc. So I will prob get tested with mens clubs and go from there, thanks again.

Lots of pros should be able to fit you outside, on the driving range. You definitely want to try to make your normal pass at the ball when getting fitted.
