Has anyone hit both of the 2008 versions of the Cobra S9 and FP? Considering buying some new irons and they look very sweet. I am going to demo a #6 iron of the S9 and the FP soon, but wondering if someone can tell me which one is more forgiving. Would love to hear some feedback from anyone has hit either iron or both of them. I am a high handicap golfer who shoots usually in the high 80s.

The S9 should be the more forgiving of the two. I ended up buying the FP's because I hit them well and I wanted something I could use for a few years as my game progresses. I figured if I got super-game-improvement irons, I would have a harder time learning to work the ball than if I got something that had a playability factor to it.

I hit both last Sunday and have a set of the FP's on the way. The SP's were just too thick along the top and "mushy" feeling.
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I played last years FP's and, while only playing 9 holes, shot a 40 - my best half round ever - I absolutely loved them

Just bought the 2007 S9's. Loved them in the indoor range, but haven't been able to get outside due to weather. Previously played my stepdad's old set of Cobra Bafflers from around 1986 with graphite shafts.

i have hit the 2008 fp irons and i bought them. the price was the number one factor. i went in looking at callaway x 20s. i hit them and hated them. i hit the g10s and i10s. liked them but i hit the i10s better. i could not get over the size of the sole on the g10s. hit the new titleist- the one that is not forged. hated it and i played dci s from 1997 to 2001 and loved them. hit the r7 irons and i really liked them. they are by far the longest irons i hit. the ball seemed to explode off the face. i then hit the fp s and i loved the feel. i started to do the math and i realized with trades i could get those irons and get the g10 driver with prolaunch red i wanted (GREAT DRIVER). when i saw what a deal i was getting on the fp irons and the g10 with my trades i realized i could get a new 3 wood as well so i got the fp s. i really wanted the new cobra 3 wood. i hit the ball high but i cannot hit a 3 wood. the new cobra f is 15.5 degrees and the shaft, although a little light, is that new graphite design. i draw everything with it but i can hit it 240 and nice flight. i can hit my driver over 300 but i just cannot let it rip with a 3 wood. the fp s are not long. they hit it somewhat high and straight. the feel is nice but takes some getting used to. it never feels to me like i hit it but the ball goes. they are also very nice looking. i have no regrets. if i lost 5 yards with my 7 iron so what. the guys in my group can talk all they want. they know to shut up when i hit my g 10.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
