Equipment decision

Hey,
this is my situation: I've stopped playing in 2004 when i was a hcp 17 but more playing around hcp 11 each round. I then stopped due to time constraints. I'm 194cm (6.36 feet) tall and had a swing speed of 105-110mph.

Now I want to start up again and looked at the different equipment thats available. I used to play Mizuno ProII's that were customized in shaft length and lie. Yesterday I got an offer from a friend to buy his clubs of him. The set consists of:

Driver: Nakashima 9.5 Titanium 460cc on a HTD CBX Harmon Tour Design shaft.
FW: Sonartec Driving Cavtiy 4 Loft 16 on a Harrison Striper Tour 701 shaft.
Hybrid: KZG 22 degrees on a Harrison Pro 3.5 Ultra Lite
Irons: Miura CB-201 on a Rifle 6.0 shaft
Wedges: Eidolon 60, 58 and 56 degrees all on Rifle 6.0 shafts

These clubs were custom made for him and he is 1,85cm in size. That's obviously a 10cm difference. I know that your highth is not the only thing that matters in terms of custom fitting but i guess its an indication.

My question now is this: Get the stuff from him or rather go with "cheaper" things and get it customized right away (i.e r7tp's)? Obviously i can let the clubs be re-adjusted as well but that would mean a couple of month more till that happens due to cash flow

Your friend has some high quality equipment. Miura is known to make some of the finest irons. The rest of his equipment I'm not familiar with but with some quick research, found them to be quite expensive.

A big concern is the height difference (obviously). You can measure his and your wrist to floor distance and if is similar, the clubs might be a good fit for you. You have a good swing speed to use the flex of shaft he currently has. The most important thing would actually be the lie angle of those clubs. It might actually cause your solidly stuck shots to go right or left. That can also be adjusted as well. It comes down to how good of a deal he is offering you.

The thing about your Mizuno T-Zoid Pro II's is that those are still excellent irons. Those are probably a better fit for you than any non-fitted clubs. What are the rest of your equipment? If they're decent, then you can probably wait until your handicap is in the single digits before you make any equipment changes. Unless you have an extremely old driver, I wouldn't recommend any changes to your equipment.

I recently made a change from a set of Titleist DCI 962s from 1999 to my new Mizuno MP-32s and honestly, those clubs did not shave any strokes off my game.

thanks for the quick reply.

I don't have the Pro IIs anymore so a new purchase is the only real option. The price would be around the same what I would spent on a new set (which would also be high quality but obviously not in the Miura range quality).

So regarding the price it's really a tie. The difference in wrist-to-floor is around 1.7 inches.

To be honest there really shouldnt be much a difference besides the lie angle if you used standard shafts in your old mizunos. Ask your friend if the shafts on his set are standard ,and if they are you should be able to use them without much of a problem. All you should have to do is get the lie angle adjusted. Unless you're 4 foot tall or 6 ' 5 or something like that, most ametuer golfers use standard lenth shafts.

as i said in my post, I'm 6.3 feet tall.

My old mizunos were 1" longer and had a slighly modded lie angle
