Hello all. I have read lots of posts and posted on other forums, but thought I'd give it a try here too. I would like to get a new set of clubs as I have been playing for a few years on an old garage sale set. I wanted to keep it around $300 and I was thinking of just getting a new complete set, but after reading forums and looking around it sounds like that is a bad idea. Even though I probably am still not going to play more than 15 times a year or so (plus I will probably go to the range a lot), I suppose spending another hundred or so isn't going to hurt me too much. So anyways, I have been reading lots of posts and looking around at Rockbottomgolf.com and came across a few Adams sets I wanted to ask you guys about. How do you think the A2 set ($269 or it is $249 if you buy from Rockbottom through ebay) would be for me? That caught my attention because it has a couple hybrids too which I would want anways insted of the long irons. And that price seems very cheap as I have seen it for $399 at other stores. I was thinking maybe that, and just use the 1 and 3 wood I have now. They are cheap ones, but I have managed to hit the 3 wood pretty straight at the range. And I could get a better wood later on. The other set I saw there was the Tight Lies for $129, and then I would have to get some hybrids too. Which set (or other) would be best for me to continue to learn on and improve on and continue to use for a long time? I know I have read to get used ones, but since I don't plan to play everyday and become a pro at this, I probably am not going to be replacing them for a long time so I would like to just get something new, especially in the price range it is only around $100 or so more than some used ones I have read that are recommended to beginners. What do you guys think?

I just went through the same search and ended up purchasing the A2 OS set of irons. I started out seriously considering the new A3 set but found them to be a little less forgiving. I started playing again last year after a 10 yr layoff and needed to upgrade my old set. Its been two rounds with the new clubs and already I am a big fan.

Based on your description, I would suggest looking at the A2 OS. You will get room to grow but won't need to devote as much practice time in order to get good results. My plan is to hold on to these for a couple seasons until my swing becomes more consistent. The wider sole and hybrid technology in the long irons has helped build confidence.

Can't go wrong with Adams. I almost bought the A2's myself, but liked the Tech OS a little better, I wanted the GS-75 shafts.

I have hit the A2 and the A2OS, not much difference to me.
Adams makes some really nice equipment, the quality is outstanding.

I remember seeing the A2 OS at the store, and didn't really look at them close because I didnt see it necessary to hybrids (or whatever those are) in the 5-6-7 irons. I seem to hit my 6 iron pretty well, so I was thinking the A2 would be ok. What do you guys think? Maybe I'll try them out when I get by a store.

Ultimately, you are the best judge. The A2s could be the best fit for you. If you like them it's hard to question and I don't think there is a wrong choice to be made. Like the previous poster said, Adams is a good company.

The 5-6 are ibrids? I have not used them too often but have been able to hit them better than my previous clubs. They are odd looking in the bag but standing over the ball you don't notice.

I was using an old set of Lynx Black cats from the early nineties (anyone remember the insert?) After coming back I have struggled with hitting clean shots (I hit the ground first the majority of the time.) For me the wider sole has helped. Now I just need to put in the time on the range and the course.

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
