New Wedges

Ok well I am looking at getting a new wedge, as my old Vokey is completely dead and gone.
I am looking at a 60*, and in almost all models reviewed in the 08 Hot list.

I am just looking for reviews and recommendations of mainly these ones though:

Callaway Xtour/forged
Mizuno MP-T
Cleveland CG12 Zip

Here's what I know about eac of those wedges:

Mizuno Mp-T:
Very solid wedge. Spins a tad more than the Vokey 200 series, which is plenty for most players. The C-Grind is great for flop shots and tight lies. It has a very pronounced teardrop shape and both the chrome and black nickel finish look great.

Callaway X-Forged:
Callaway does wedges a little differently than Titleist and Mizuno. They use a combination of medium-to high bounce plus sole grinds to make the wedge versatile. For example, the 60* X-Forged comes in either a 9 or 10 degree bounce, one of which has a C-Grind sole (Titleist and Mizuno offer roughly a 4-9 degree bounce region). The X-Forged seemed to spin a little more than the Mizuno, and maybe just a little less than the Cleveland. Both the finishes look sweet, and it performed well for me out of soft sand (but not so much firm sand due to the high bounce)

Cleveland CG12:
Average wedge for me. The most forgiving of these 3 IMO. LOTS of spin from all types of shots. This wedge has a little bit thicker topline than the Mizuno and Callaway, something you may or may not like. I though this wedge was the worst out of these three as far as versatility. When I opened the face, the leading edge really rose, making it tough to hit lob shots. Decent wedge out of the sand, but nothing incredible IMO.

I have the MP-T black nickel 51 and 58 - sorry not carrying a 60 any longer. I absolutely love them.

1) I agree with everything stated above, especially with that stmt about the C-grind feature.

2) Forged - not only does it feel great off the club face on full shots and pitches but also around the greens. For me the feel inspires confidence and since I have forged irons I like the consistency of having forged clubs from 3-LW.

3) Spin - I previously owned both the 56 and 60 degree Cleveland RTG wedges. I am able to generate much more spin with these clubs.

4) Bounce options -- I elected to get a 58 because of other factors but had I chosen the 60 I would not have liked the fact there are only 2 bounce options 5 and 8. The 58-10 was prefect for me...

Overall I am VERY happy with my purchase. I was deciding between the sm vokeys, the callaways and tm tp and I have not regretted my buy one bit.

i'd say have a look at KZG's wedges too...

I'd also take a look at the TaylorMade rac Satin TP wedges or thier new Z-Groove wedges. I just bought the 54* and 58* satin TP wedges after trying them out on the range. I tried everything as well, including the cleveland and titlest. I was a bit biased because these wedges match my irons, but at the same time, their feel and performance were the same if not a tab bit softer than the clevelands.

I agree w/ mutadayen. I wouldn't count out the rac z tps. They're up there in terms of spin and they are extremely versatile. I can't compare them to that many other wedges but they are way ahead of vokey sm oil cans and cg 10's in terms of feel in my opinion. The 588 is not as far behind in terms of feel but I still give the nod to the rac tp.

I recently went through the same process. I chose the Callaway X-Forged. The feel really sold me. Head weight is perfect. You can truly throw darts with them. The only way I would advise against them is if you play a ball with a soft cover that isn't very durable. These wedges will rip chunks out of them. I play the Callaway TourIX, and haven't had any problems. Good luck in your quest.

Don't give up on the Vokey's! You might consider trying a 60.04 SM. I just picked one up and like it vey much, although it takes a bit of time to get use to.

the cleveland zip cg14 are just amazing i tried them at a cleveland demo day a couple weeks ago and and they provide a great feel with nice spin. that is just my opinion you should try every thig you can an see what you feel most comfortable with because you will be using your wedges almost every hole so they are a major comitment.

I love my Taylormade RAC TP satin wedges....lot better than the Mizuno MP wedges which I used for about 3 years.....

i have a rac black tp wedge it is also realy nice it really gives you a high launch

I wouldn't count out the SM vokeys. however, out of those three you have listed, Mizunos.
