so i learned with a couple of cheaper style wedges like the wilson, i had a 52 and a 60... then i found a great deal on a vokey 56 and picked it up with a 14 degree bounce. Wow the bounce is for real yo, it is hard to make a divot with this club... my question is what is the advantage of less bounce? i read a couple articles that seem to make it sound like more is always better but i'm guessing this isn't true. does more bounce limit your backspin? what do pros use and why?

What bounce angle should i get when i look for a vokey 60?? it seems that 8 is more standard for that club, and SW usually have higher but why i don't know?

thanks for the comments and tips guys

Most 60 vokeys come with only 8 degres bounce. I have one but ive never used it consistantly. There isnt anything i can do with a 60 that I cant do with a 56, but thats just me. 14 degrees bounce will restrict contact with full swing from good lies on the fairway, but good for hard sand and other hard conditions because it wont dig as much. It depends on the type of course you play regulary. 12 degrees seems to be pretty standard, but I use 56/10 because I like to open up the face and play different types of shots when I need to. With more bounce, you're restricted in opening the face.

Assuming you know exactly what bounce is,

it's beneficial on sand wedges, hence why your 56* vokey which is traditionally a sand wedge has such high bounce. It'll keep the club from digging more especially if you open up the face a little. You should still be making divots though, regardless of the bounce. Also, bounce depends a lot on course conditions and the type of shots you want to hit. If you're in situations where you have to hit a high soft shot off hardpan, you're pretty screwed with 14* bounce which is why 60* lob wedges usually have much lower bounce. In general bounce is beneficial in fluffier lies and less bounce is better in tighter lies.

Bound will prevent your club from digging in. A nice feature in a bunker, but no so much when you want to hit a flop shot or take a divot. Some players have a time with blading the ball from good lies with a high bounce club. 60* wedges usually have a low bounce to facilitate opening the club face and hitting flop shots.

Sand wedge have a high bounce to help them glide through the sand and not just dig in.

    • Day 206 3-11 Focused on wider backswing and reconnecting arm in downswing. Wasn't really happy with how swing was looking today. Wider backswing is very different for me. Went back to do a some longer pauses at the top. Hit a few foam balls.
    • This is an awesome breakdown. most of the bigger tournaments usually have one wave with the advantage, Thank you for the breakdown. If it is soft then it will be a lower final score
    • Over the past 15 years, the winning score has ranged from -10 to -20. Mostly around -13.  Here is Thursday and Friday weather. Saturday and Sunday weather. I think the course will play soft. Plenty of sky cover, lots of rain on Thursday. Fairways and greens will probably stay soft throughout the week.  In terms of tee times, I think Thursday morning and Friday afternoon have the biggest advantage. • We have a very difficult but mostly showy course this week. Lets see what they got. This course offers so many chances to get into trouble it is really a mental minefield. I am excited to see who can handle it and who cant. Last year we got a foreshadowing of JJ and Rory, I am excited for this year Who do people have winning? what will the winning score be? I am thinking 12 or 13 under
