Right now I play the Callaway X-18's. I used to be a mid-single digit handicap player, but I stopped playing for about 4 years, so when I got back into golf I went with nice forgiving clubs. I like the irons, especially the longer ones. But I do not like the low irons, I feel that I sacrifice some control and forgiveness is not as important with the shorter club as mishits are less frequent. So I am going to add the Callaway X Forged to my bag (9I, PW, and maybe the 8I).

Does anybody else do this? What do you think?

I notice that Phil does this to a degree, using the X-Forged for his long irons, but the prototype blades (i think) for his 5, 7-PW.

yeah, just make sure to check out the club specs before you pull the trigger. You dont want to throw new sticks in your bag that either have a different swingweight or are stronger/weaker loft wise

most of my friends carry 695mbs for their low irons and usually have different 3-7 from a completely different manufacturer

The only problem you may run into is if you have to big a gap in lofts between the two types. Being from all the same company they should be fine, but you may want to double-check.

I have toyed with doing this myself but have never pulled the trigger. I am considering a combo MP-57/67 set for my next purchase. From what I have read, this is becoming more common and some manufacturers will make a set with the same serial number no matter what the mix is.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I was hitting them the other day, and I don't find there to be any significant gap. Especially if I decide to go just 9 and PW (I ordered the 8I, but am undecided if that is going to go in the back right away). This is an issue I think I am comfortable with. I also looked into the shafts issue as well.

It is an idea I have gone back and forth on since I started getting back into golf and started playing the X-18's, but I never pulled the trigger until the other day.
