Finally got to golfsmith on the launch monitor this afternoon - I have been very wild with my driver recently so I wanted to see if regular vs stiff made a difference - honestly i was not consistent enough with the demo clubs to really tell (only maybe hit 15-20 balls). With driver I was in the low-mid 90's swing speed (on a full swing probably 92-95 average). Should I be hitting regular or stiff as a general rule?

all of my clubs are regular flex except for my 3 wood which is stiff. I hit the 3 wood pretty well but very very low, which i like around here because of the wind. the 3 wood seems somewhat more controllable than my 3 hybrid but its hard to really say for sure because the ball flight is so different. My driver has recently been pretty out of control (regular flex) but I went to the range after golfsmith and I seem to have gotten that mostly figured out, hitting nice high draws instead of low pull-hooks with an addition of lead tape to the bottom of the toe (figure i'd try that before i buy a new driver or shaft). At times my 3 wood off the tee is just as out of control as my driver so it may have very little to do with the stiff vs regular shaft.

irons are regular flex but steel and I don't think there's any need to change there, I'm very happy with them coming of my first round under 90 yesterday.

I'm guessing your talking about clubhead speed. At that speed I think you're fine with regular shafts. I believe once you cross about 105 - 110 and above you should start looking at stiffy's.

Thanks for the quick reply, I think you're right and i wonder if adding the lead tape was mentally helping me (probably) or added just enough weight to the club that I wasn't overswinging as much (my driver almost just seems too light to me - definately my lightest club). I really felt so much better when I added the lead to it. I am pretty strong but not that flexible or athletic so having slightly heavier clubs might be good for me.

For anyone who cares I just found on golfsmith.com that they recommend (driver swing speed)

Extra-Stiff 105-plus
Stiff 90-105
Regular 80-95

So I guess for me I could get away with either (and I have both since I can always hit 3w off the tee and the distance loss is only maybe 10-15yds)

Hit a stiff, I was in the same position, I went with the regular at about a 95 MPH swing speed, i was borderline, a year later I need a stiff shaft now because my swing speed went up.

Dont make the same mistake, its a waste of money.

I was also right on the verge.. Never had my swing speed measured, but it was around 90mph... I always hit stiff woods, and got a regular flex driver and absolutely hated it... Didn't like the feel or anything, so I would go w/ what feels better to you.

    • Flying into ATL on Sept 11 (Thu), early, leaving Sept 15 (Mon), late. Dates are fixed. Trying to hit the best RTJ Trail stops without spending half the trip in the car.   Plan: Thu: Grand National (Lake or Links) Fri: GN AM, then drive to Capitol Hill, play Senator Sat: Capitol Hill – Judge Sun: Ross Bridge Mon: Oxmoor Ridge early, drive to ATL   Thinking about squeezing in Cambrian Ridge after Capitol Hill—worth it or too much? Would love any feedback or tips from those who’ve done it.
    • Day 73 (13 Jul 25) (note: forgot to post the "day" for the past few days, up to day 73) - Easy day in the backyard, with time on the 50deg wedge and the mat (simulating tight lies around the green) working on low spinners.  Love using this mat as it is small and portable but also lends to being a type of alignment rod to get a proper setup.  Finished up with a few swings with the 54.
    • Congrats on the new leg of your journey - the challenge of learning something new while dealing with Parkinson’s is totally awesome.
    • Played several holes today with my Buddy's left haded clubs.  I was going to order just woods, but after playing again today and hitting the irons well, I will be ordering a complet set of Left handed Clubs.    They are Callaway Edge, Regular flex.  I am excited !  Will let you know after I try them and let you know how well they performed.    Retired Old Man, Terry
    • Depends in part on what lie the greens crew left me. If it's first cut of rough or fairway and clear shot to cup, it's an 8i chip and run. If it's shaggy, or I have to go over ridge or bunker, it's a cut shot with a 58* LW.
