Let's see, if I hit the sweet spot but my putter is turned 3 degress out, I bet I will miss the hole!

Regarding the statement that it is (scientifically) easier to flip a heel shafted blade around its shaft than a center shafted mallet, that is just (scientifically) wrong. If we are talking about rotation around the shaft, a heel shafted putter will have a higher moment of inertia (axis of rotation around the shaft) than a center shafted putter by a factor of 4 (assuming the same clubhead weight). IOW, the center shafted club will have to weigh more than 4x the heel shafted putter before it would have a higher moment of inertia (axis around the shaft).

This happens because MOI is directly proportional to mass and directly proportional to the square of the distance from the axis of rotation. MOI around the center of gravity (important when dealing with off-center hits) is a different story because rotation in that case is not around the shaft. dave

The key to putting is finding a consistent putting stroke. Once you get a consistent stroke, you need to find a putter that is fitted to your stroke. You also need to realize that your stroke changes. In a Golf Digest article by Phil Mickelson, he talked about this, which is why (at the time) he used a blade heel shafted Cameron, and a center shafted Futura.

With this, for a high handicapper, I believe a mallet would be best. Generally a high handicapper has trouble missing the sweetspot. The sweetspot on a mallet is larger than on a blade, thus making it easier to find the sweetspot. In another Golf Digest article, Ping DOC putter was voted best putter. The Red X was voted highly also. The Two-Ball is one the best selling putters in history. There are reason for all of this. Mallets are simply easier to hit.

In my bag:

DRIVER: 905T w/ Fujikura E360 Shaft
3 Wood 906 F4 w/ Aldila Proto "By You"
Irons: MP 30 w/ Rifle 5.5 Wedges Oil Can 50*, Vokey SM 54* and 58*Putter: C-06

Just to let you all know, here is the comment that the moderator IACAS left on my reputation because he thinks he is a know it all, and he deleted one of my posts as I am sure he will delete this, I have decided to abondon this forum and go to where the moderators moderate, and don't consider their advice as being law, and don't try to belittle people that have more knowledge then them.

Here is his comment...

I just lowered your rep - I would have just for that stupid f***ing nickname but you picked a fight so enjoy yourself in Iacas doghouse

Real Mature IACAS, maybe it's time you grow up!

Except I didn't leave that feedback. Why would I talk about myself in the third person? Duh.

You don't have more knowledge, and your earlier post was deleted because it was rude and insulting. I did give you negative reputation for the name-calling you did earlier, but the comment you posted - yeah, not from me. Someone else saw fit to give you a whipping.

Bye bye. You won't be missed. Now, this thread will get back to topic. Any further posts about (or from) Joetruth will be removed.

    • Day 2:  I hit a bucket of balls this morning.  Not gonna lie, almost didn’t go since it was my first time going alone and it was a little intimidating.  I mostly hit with my driver (the last bit of balls was with my 7 iron).  The sun was in my face but I think the ones that had good contact with went the furthest yet (maybe 150 yards then a good roll?).  Once I switched to my 7, the first half of my balls were crap.  I’ve always hit my irons before my driver when practicing and done fine - does this make any difference or is it just because I’m so green?
    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
    • I think the $50 fitting price tag is per club. The clubs I am most interested in getting fitted for are irons. And I'd rather not spend a bunch on getting fitted for multiple irons. Would I be fairly safe to assume that choosing something like a 6 or 7 iron for fitting would likely relate to other lofts in the same configuration/make/model?
    • A Mevo is 500. Comes with little decals to hit balls inside too.
