Couldn't pass up the bag of 36 Pro V1's at $35.
So, are these even worth playing with or just for practice?

I bought 100 ProV's off eBay earlier this year, got them for 80 plus shipping. They were AAA quality. They already had peoples marks on them, some had minor scuff or "discolorations".

For what it's worth, I have played every single one of them. Unless you are very good, I don't think you could possibly notice the difference.

I just always heard that water balls can be way different than just used balls. I assume there are many water balls in this pack.
Either way, it will give me a chance to try them out at least!
Appreciate the feedback.

I've bought a couple of the reload 30ct. bags of pro-v1s and I would say that minor scuff marks usually won't keep me from playing the ball...however a handfull of the balls I've gotten have had like raised "bumps" almost like air had gotten inbetween the cover and the boundary layer?...I wouldn't play with a ball like this...even if it wouldn't throw a putt offline I would still be thinking about the possibility while putting.

For what it's worth...

I've purchased 6 dozen AAAA Pro V1's from lostgolfballs.com and have been extremely happy with them. Out of the 72 balls, apprx 10-15 were discolored, slightly off-white. A few had ball marks, barely noticeable.

But at $1.25 per ball, it's a steal. I used the discolored balls, which were fine for play as my chip/putt balls. Nothing like being able to practice your short game with balls that check so you can get a feeling for how it will play on the greens.

These balls are fine for playing. If this is your first time with a tour quality ball, just be aware that they will spin alot more off your tee shots. So if you have a fade or draw compensate for it.

I'm about an 18 h-capper. . .So my question to you is, with an index of 36, is it even worth it to worry about buying new balls?

I lose about 4or 5 a week (that's thru 2 or 3 rounds of golf usually).

I'm not suggesting you play with crappy cheap balls. But AAA, or mint Pro-V's are more than adequate for your game.

I bought about 6 dozen used Pro-V-1's about 3 years ago. I still have at least 1/2 of them because I can't bring myself to wasting them on the golfcourse with my game.

I buy used golf balls and basically nothing but used balls. With the quality of my game, I'm not going to spend that much on a ball.

I just got some ProV1's and some TM Red's from golfballgiant.com 12 for $15 plus 6 for shipping. The Pro V's are graded AAA, no logo, no marks, no scuffs. the TM's are rated AAA/AA no logo, no marks, very slight to no scuffs. Way, way better than the dozen I got from Big 5. Same price with tax. I'll stick to the giant.

Good thoughts.
I have been playing balls that sell for around $20 a dozen, and yes, I lose many. MY "thinking" is the reload ProV's, even with minor blems, water, etc, are still going to be a better feeling ball and cheaper at the same time. Just not as pretty as new. I am roughly saving $.60 a ball.
So, would you guys think the reload Prov's are a better ball than say Titelist models that sell new for $25 a doz?

Better "feeling" yes. But also keep in mind, that they are going to be much "spinnier" than a 2 piece ball. So if you have a tendency to hook or slice, it will most likely be more pronounced than that of a harder ball built for distance rather than spin.
