When I hit my long irons, or really any irons, my biggest problem when I make a good swing is both a push and or slice. When I make good contact the ball usually either takes off to the right immediately or starts straight and fades a ways to the right, enough to the right to ruin a good shot (ie: miss the green).

The irons I'm using are spauldings that came as part of a complete set (they're the only part of the set I still use), so in that regard I'm thinking they were made for someone not nearly as strong as I am.

Now I don't know my swing speed because I haven't had it checked, and I'm not sure how hard I swing my irons in relation to my driver, but it only makes sense to me that this is a problem.

Any advice for me? Should I just bring one in to Golfsmith and ask them or what?

PS- On my driver (R5) on the shaft it says "S-Flex". Does that mean stiff or soft? I'm not sure if it's stiff or soft as I've never really swung another nice club.

I think this is more of a problem of your swing, meaning that your club path is too much inside to out, and when you make a good insie to inside swing you club face is open.

And on the driver the S stands for Stiff.

I have seen a few of your posts and it sounds like you have a very outside swing path, cutting across the ball. The shaft might be some of the problem, but probably it is swing related more than anything else. I would recommend finding a teacher you like at your local golf course that can be a big help. You can spend all sorts of money on new equipment, but if you still have the same old swing, it won't help. As my 75 year old father in law says - it's always the indian, not the arrows. By finding a good repeatable swing you will enjoy the game for years and years. Hope this helps.

If you are unsure on how to start, use the pga.com website or try searching for golf instruction online in your local area.
good luck.

    • Day 29 (9 Dec 25) - PW dink and rolls as well as low flighted chips.  Dink and rolls - set up with club head toe down/heel up to promote low flight, plenty of roll out.  Low flighted pitches - club flat on the ground to get ball up a Rick more and check more.   No more than 10yds total distance - focus on getting the ball to finish near (within 10’ dia circle) the target “pin”…
