But isn't it the Governments job to find me a job, pay for my house, food, schooling and everything else? I'm just a helpless American who hardly pays any taxes (well I do, but I get almost all of it back on my tax return). Since you have all the money, isn't it fair that you should help take care of us? I mean, you can afford it and all. It's not right that you work hard and have made more money than us. I don't know what I am going to do about my mortgage since the bank tricked me into getting a bigger loan than I knew I could afford. I know, those interest only loans weren't a good idea but I was so confused when I willingly signed the papers. I think I'll vote for someone who promises me he will steal your money and spread it out to all of us who have nothing and will make Government bigger than ever. Then, I'll go out and get a Government job so it's harder to fire me. Maybe I'll go be an airport screener. Woe is me.

Do you have another schtick besides sarcasm? I know it worked well for Sarah Palin in her speech and all.

It's only OK if the sarcasm is coming from the other side? I'll stop if you all stop.

its not even that i'm right (wing). i'm just in the middle. but stories like this are great and help convince people to go to their respective corners.

Not so much you . . . there's been sarcasm on both sides all through this thread. I did say "you all" not "you."

No, but I never assume a story as true until I hear all the facts.

i get my info from npr, democracy now, the nation, the daily show with jon stewart, countdown with keith olberman, south park and god

With the dollar getting stronger overseas and the threat of new taxes to the bigger corporations and the richest Americans, what is going to keep these people in the States? Where will people in the finance sector work when these capital groups start popping up in the Caribbean and Bangledesh? How is Obamas plan really good for small business owners? From what I can tell he doesnt differentiate the huge corporations from your family S Corp enough. I could care less about any of the social issues from either side, I care about the things that affect my life and my family.

Welcome to my world. By not differentiating a corporation from a small business, it will kill the small business. His plans from everything I have read make the cutoff at Revenue over $1 million per fiscal year. Tons of small businesses do that, but that does not mean the principal is rich or wealthy. The previous cutoff has always been $10 million for one tax line and $50 million for another $100 million for yet one more and then anything over $1 billion. By moving it down to $1 million you criple the small businesses. I have 9 employees. We are right around that mark every year. If that mark is indeed set, I will end up making less than half than most of my employees after I pay taxes. Double taxes of course being that I am the employer and the employee. It will kill the small business world.

Patriotism? Love of country over greed? Wanting to see America get stronger not weaker?

That a good theory, but companies have been going overseas for

years now, and it's not just since Bush was in office. It would be great if that were the case but if it's cheaper to do it over there, who can really blame them?

I just got this in email a few minutes ago. It's not a true story but has some truth in it . . .

I was talking to a friend of mine's little girl, and she said she wanted to
be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing
there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing
you would do?' She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless
people.'

'Wow - what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'You don't have to wait until you're
President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow, pull weeds, and
sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery
store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use
toward food or a new house.'

She thought that over for a few seconds ... 'cause she's only 6. And while
her mom glared at me, she looked me straight in the eye and asked, 'Why
doesn't The homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him
the $50?'

And I said, 'Welcome to the Republican Party.'

Her folks still aren't talking to me.

    • I have been debating getting a launch monitor of some sort, if only so I can re-figure my shot zones (I haven't actually mapped them in years) and also to practice distance wedges at home.  I have to see if this works with either my current setup, or what my setup would be if I move it to the garage.
    • Day 48, June 23.  After work today, I took 25 minutes in my practice room;  6-iron, same everything as yesterday except the time and count.
    • Well, this is interesting.  I think we discovered a few months ago that I haven't been following professional golf in a while (my confusion about Scotty's footwork confirmed that), so at least as I aim to follow a bit more I'll get something new to learn with all of you.  My very quick read of Erik's summary makes me think this new Challenger series fits somewhere between Korn Ferry and the Championship (not Champions, but I know I'm going to make that mistake a few times if I'm not careful!).   My recollection is that there were already second-tier events among the PGA Tour;  the Bob Hope didn't have the same quality of field as the event at Riviera (whose current name I forget, although now that I say that, I realize the Palm Springs event hasn't been called the Bob Hope in a few years either).   With the absence of the FedEx (if I'm reading that correctly), does that mean no more FedEx Cup at all? Hopefully I'll have time later in 2026 to sit down and see what we're in for in 2027, where one of my goals already is to follow more professional golf.
    • The highlights as I see them: Championship and Challenger Series The creation of the PGA Tour and the PGB Tour, in the words of Joel Dahmen a few years ago. They're calling them the Championship Series (23-24 events) and the Challenger Series (20+ events). Both run February to August. They feel this will achieve three things: increasing the consistency and quality of fields across the season creating a clear system for players to earn and retain status and delivering a more structured and competitive experience for fans and partners—all in an effort to strengthen meritocracy. Championship Series Structure and Eligibility The 23-24 events includes the Players, majors, season-ending events, and the Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup. These will be 72-hole events with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties and purses of $20M+. 120 players without an alternate list. 90 players (roughly) from the previous year and 20 players promoted from the Challenger Series. Full eligibility will be finalized later this year. Sites (cities) to be finalized soon, but 10 of the 15 courses have already been determined. Postseason: includes retention and relegation and concludes with match play. The Tour Championship will also be played across a rotation of prestigious courses. Challenger Series Structure and Eligibility 20+ events. Running concurrently. Will feature players fighting their way back to the Championship Series or players graduating and on the upswing from the Korn Ferry Tour. Many of these events will be current PGA Tour courses. About 7 of the Challenger Series events will be during off weeks for the Championship Series with elevated purses and visibility. Purses of at least $4M, with cuts similar to the Champ series. 144 player fields. Competitive Fields for Both Series Players will be eligible for only one series at a time: Championship Series Players are not eligible for Challenger Series events. Championship Series members will have a known schedule with all events having the same eligibility. Players and Majors will have their own eligibility criteria. Championship Series players don't have to play all events. This begs the question about, say, the Canadian Open, and other "home-town" events that players might want to play, even if they're Challenger Series events. Will releases be granted? Promotion and Relegation At least 90 players will be retained in the Championship Series, and 20 players will be promoted from the Challenger Series each year. Battlefield promotion for two-time winners from the Challenger Series. Players relegated from the Championship Series will have a "last chance" opportunity to retain status, or will go to the Challenger Series. Criteria will be finalized before the start of the 2027 season. Points System New points system (not FedExCup points). Separate points systems for the Championship and Challenger Series. Elevated points in the Challenger Series for off-weeks on the Championship Series. More details tk. Elevated International Events in the Fall The fall schedule will include a limited series of elevated international events with top players from the Championship Series, with the intent to deliver in partnership with the DP World Tour as part of the Strategic Alliance. Last Chance Series The Tour will develop a “last chance” series of 4-6 events in the fall, with a limited number of spots on the Championship Series available for top finishers. Eligibility will include players relegated from the Championship Series, Challenger Series players, and other categories to be determined. Q-School continues, as do the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica. Also, Brian Rolapp is the new commissioner as of January 1, 2027.
