I'm trying to figure out if I really need a super game improvement iron set or if something less shovel might be better for me.

I've been out of the game since my freshman year in college 15 years ago. I'm back and still playing with the same Lynx Master Imperial iron set that I got used about 19 years ago.

So far I haven't really had a problem hitting them straight. I'm really not even that unhappy with how I'm hitting my 7-PW. I'm really just looking for better and more consistent length on my longer irons right now, particularly 4-5.

Current technology must be better than what I'm hitting right now. What I'm trying to figure out is what I would be giving up by going with game improvement irons instead of super game improvement irons (and vice versa)

Is the primary benefit of SGI just allowing someone more forgiveness when it comes to getting the ball going straight, or is there more to it than that?

The diff between SGI and GI is the ability to get the ball in the air (more weight in the sole) and to prevent slicing (larger face, more offset).

But beware - I'm having problems between the mid-irons and the short-irons. I use hybrids in place of the 3I and 4I. Ignoring these, I find I actually need 2 iron "sets" in my bag. Am happy with SGI in the mid-irons (5, 6 even 7) but the larger offset in the SGI results in my hooking the short irons (8-PW). So shorter irons should be GI. Just be aware.

I dont know if Id say there is a, "substantial" difference, but there is a difference. I would say that if you arent 100% new to golf and have a halfway decent golfswing where you dont have problems getting the ball up in the air and hitting it fairly straight that you dont really need SGI irons.

Whats in my :sunmountain: C-130 cart bag?
