so me and my girlfriend left for the weekend to stay with her parents for labor day. well it just so happens that hurricane gustav decided to head towards where we live. thats cool we already evacuated i guess, the problem is we werent prepared for an evac. we just brought clothes for the weekend and i didnt bring my golf clubs!?!?!?!?!?!?! i did however bring my 2 new ben hogan wedges to practice around the yard. we may be gone for as long as a couple weeks depending on how much damage it causes, so what can i do to hit some drivers or long irons?!? i dont even have my putter! stupid hurricane ruined my plans for a golf game with 3 of my oldest buddies today, now it wont let me practice any!!!

Most driving ranges I have ever been to have a collection of clubs for people to use, sure they're not your clubs but if you really need to hit some balls the option is there. Some courses even rent clubs too, or see if your buddies have an extra set.

Id say that at this point you have bigger worries than not being able to play golf.

Amen to that. My state was devestated by Katrina. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have had to evacuate their homes and businesses.

I am at least grateful that the governments of Louisianna and Mississippi are preparing better for Gustav than they did for Katrina. Perhaps even our federal government will do better this time around. Our hopes are, though, that the evacuations and preparations will be for naught; that Gustav will disapate and people will grumble as they make their way safely back home.

Just keeping things in perspective. If I had a home in that area, Id be more worried about my house being destroyed and ending up homeless than I would be about not being able to play golf.

Not being able to play golf sucks, but it pales in comparison to what that part of the country has been through over the past few years and will likely go through again.

thanks for the concerns guys and the information. during hurricane rita my apartment got COMPLETELY destroyed. im talking i lost everything. i just always keep my head up in these types of situations and usually try to keep laughing. its been my experience that we cant do anything about the situation. we bought our insurance and the extra windstorm coverage so im pretty confident that if anything were to happen then we are covered. it turns out that where i work is just a bunch of money grubbers and ive gotta go back in town tomorrow morning. gonna swing by and grab all our stuff we left...including the clubs . so now ive gotta sneak back in my town and will be pulled over by every single cop on the road and may not even be able to get back. damn you gustav!

naw it looks like everyone is getting out early which is good.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
